It comes from many csvs supplied by the DfE via FoI. I then pump those into SQL using SSIS, much easier to work with then.

I'll take a look one evening this week, but the filtering is done based on the raw stats available - so those values are correct because 17000 odd of 22,000 school is around the 80% mark, but 17,000 of 44,000 is around 40%. It is not correct based on what is trying to be displayed, but it is right based on the values and the filtering taking place. The tables are not perfect I know that but the best way to display the key headlines we all want to see for 1 year - multi-year not so much, that is what the chart is for, or look on tab 6 for the year by year numbers. The tables are 'live filtering' they are not hiding and showing rows. Of course, appreciate the feedback and will look into what I can improve.

Just to bring the facts together on this: a school can either pay X price, or play less and the parents get ads, and individual parents can then pay to remove ads.

Couple of observations on this: Skilled people cost money, and support staff positions are not often known to have the best salaries - particularly where schools are struggling in many aspects of funding... not enough teachers but we want a SQL and Analytics guru please? To the point further above - if they build something really great and complex and cool and then leave - yes that is a risk, but surely is not a reason to say 'we'll just not do it at all then just in case'...

Yes as far as I have understood, if you publish behind a login or walled garden, you have to pay up, otherwise for free anything you publish is public.

Note that when you publish it to Microsoft, it is available to the public (albeit behind a GUID), so publishing anything via the free method should not contain anything to do with pupil data or anything identifiable or otherwise irksome under GDPR.

If the partner is using Groupcall Xporter (on Demand) then they write against the API, there is no change Groupcall side and so there is no charge. I would be interested to know (privately if necessary) who this is, so that we (Groupcall) can understand why this is the case and if there is any assistance they need to enable this. I agree there is depth unknown here but on the surface seems barmy and totally against the rest of the market.

I wold suggest this would come down to the robustness of the organisations procedures - having a list of rules to follow with no safeguards, check, etc does not make it a get out for any/all data breeches/issues going forward. If the organisation can show that they did everything possible to train, support and protect staff from mistakes (often the common cause on minor incidents), then OK, plus if the staff member deliberately went and did something bad, then very possibly they can and should. But the ICO will firstly look to the organisation. I think too, a fine can only be levied by the ICO directly, the organisation cannot just pass that on, or even pay it and then subsequently fine the staff member - unless something was explicitly written into contracts and the likes.

100% agree. Not everything needs to be updated ever minute of the day. Attendance, yes maybe! Assessment result... Good god no!

Agreed - define live? Do you want it to instantly show changes? Why? For an analytics dashboard, who is seeing a chart change .01% going to help there and then? These are not alerting systems (well, they are, but not for that!) to tell you to go hunting for little Johnny because he is not at school, we all have systems that do that. These are systems to help you analyse school performance and see patterns to allow you to take strategic action. In most cases (not all) strategic action is not knee-jerk or on a whim, or based on an instant live change in data. I caveat this with the point that SOME data items can be used for quick/snap decisions, that MAY benefit from quicker data refreshes, but in the main where these decisions are so critical to have, tools to support this will likely already be in the platforms you are already using.

Some questions to ask yourself on Analytics to help cover this topic: Do you need Analytics to view across your MAT (aggregates and/or comparisons)? Do you need Analytics to view in a single school? Do you (MAT) have a single MIS or several across the group? Do you need just attendance, conduct, assessment/attainment? Do you need more? Do you need to include additional platforms to be included in your overall Analytics - safeguarding, standardised assessments, etc? Each product on offer in the market offers some or more of these. So find your requirements first and then look at the options.

Keeping the advertising to a minimum, yes it does Matt but also partners that utilise XOD have the option to contribute into Analytics too which is unique, and we have some big partners that are actively doing this right now.
