IV and EV - when I used to work with apprentices that was the case, internally you Internally Verify - that the teaching is following the practices you lay down and evidence is clearly there - and EV - External Verification where you are checking that the checking is being done correctly.

Perhaps also there is an element of 'this is a OS' so as long as it is stable and is the scaffolding to support other apps that we do want to use daily, isn't that enough/what it is for?

Much like the (old) Star Trek films, every other OS was a winner (with the others being Shatner-directed duds) XP and 7 included - though seems 10 is falling into the new-age (Kelvin timeline?) ones to break that mold...

Surely in 2020 with all this focus on automation, huge amounts of data floating about (cloud?!), and reductions in paperwork etc etc, there should be something smarter than going into a school every x years. Just like the afore mentioned MOT, you make everything look good so it passes, then the moment the school is off the forecourt the MOT means nothing, for possibly 4 years or even longer it seams. Surely some automation with results, independent surveys and other monitoring, more regular informal and smaller visits to schools by inspectors to flag up the need for more significant or formal inspections would be better? I recently became a governor in a primary school and we are awaiting the dreaded call for a few months now, everything is focused on or around that (meaning that an element of BAU is not happening) it just seems barmy.

Hi all. Looking for some advice - with my governor hat on. My school have recently had a dip in their FSM funding due to a larger proportion cohort leaving and, as is usual in schools, new intakes not signing up for a variety of reasons (it is a fair fact that the school is in a deprived area and so there will be parents/students elidgable for FSM/PP, so the students should be getting this addition support). Any advice or ideas successfully used to encourage parents to sign up (as usual, even if they intent to make use of them or not, to make best use of the funds allocated and available from government)? Happy to take PMs if wanted.

I think if fingerprints were as new (reading, obviously fingerprints have been around a little longer!) as commercial facial recognition I would agree. I think this is the first test case, as is the one in Kings Cross right now, and things will get sorted out and then new interpretations will come about around privacy and GDPR. Think of it this way though, a PIN number is one step away from fingerprints - usually personal or something on you have or know. OK OK it is actually PIN and card combination, but the concept it the same. We use it to identify who we are. Facial recognition in isolation is much the same. The problem comes because it is non-invasive you a) don't know you are being captured (conceptually, obviously if it were happening you would do) and b) you have no choice but to be photographed. That is the real difference here. If say you have to go stand in front of a camera in a booth, and you could choose not to, and anyone who chose not to were not imaged, this would be less of an issue. Good debate this, very interesting ideas and questions being asked!

It 'could', but fingerprint in implicit - you actively need to do that individually to register. Same could be said for RFID on cards - it will only scan what it can. Facial Recognition will scan everyone, pick out those it knows, still scan an reject those it doesn't, but it has still taken those 'faces'. You have to have the data in order to then reject it. Side note on this, we have to remember that GDPR is still so new, it will need years of test cases in courts and what not to iron out the practicalities, and for tech and society to adjust.

Yes, couple of edTech providers were showing this off at BETT couple if years back. Will not publicise their names, though do take a bit of personal pleasure after I told them how bad an idea this was against GDPR, and was assured it was all fine and it was GDPR compliant.

Hi there. Are you a vendor or school/MAT? If the former, yes and we have an API layer for you to interact with, and there is a sandbox you can Dev against. If the latter, no - vendors of software you are using will do the bit above for you. All you need to do is authorise them to take your data which is all done in platform via step by step wizards - all very user friendly. Does that help get you started? Graham
