..really One school is replacing suite with a set of laptops (so they can use the room as extra teaching space) and the recyling company picked the old ones up on time. I've brought their redundant LCDs to another of my schools and replaced the monitors in their suite and setup a redundant machine to drive the school lobby display (releasing a laptop for pupil use). And although its been a bit of physical effort - its all gone well and everyone at both schools is very happy And its only 2pm So - some days - its worth it Si

Ta Of course Whats prompted this is that Lancs ICT consultants have produced a very comprehensive document but to my mind it could only be followed if every single teacher was an ICT guru. So I was looking for a more basic skillset that could just be judged on a simple 1-5 type scale (or even use the Key Stage levels) so you could say Level 4c was "create a 3 slide powerpoint,save it and print it" and Level 5 is "create a >5 page powerpoint complete with hyperlinks" type stuff

I do some ICT teaching as well as fixing/breaking stuff and am just wondering what people here think average pupils should (that's should not could with a lot of help from teachers!) be able to do at end of year/key stage. Here's my first bash (I sure a lot of stuff missing but don't want to clog up with details as I want to produce a simple grid that can be used to assess ict skills as a child progresses through primary schools) Foundation (age 4/5) Use mouse to click on objects to cause actions/answer questions (Tizzy's toybox etc) by themselves Draw pictures (2Simple 2Paint) and type name. Print them out by themselves KS1 (Y2) (Age 6/7) Switch computers on and off. Use MSpaint type progs. Save files (under whole class instruction) Be able to use more complex software such as 2Paint a Picture by themselves Be able to use more complex software (Textease/Powerpoint/Impress/Audacity/Webcams) under whole class instruction Y4 (Age 8/9) Open previously saved files under whole class instruction. Be able to use PhotoStory/Textease by themselves Y5 (Age 9/10) Open and save files with minimal assistance. Use Word Processor/Powerpoint/Impress with minimal assistance on cross-curricular work. Use spreadsheets under whole class instruction. KS2 (Age 10/11) Use Wordprocessor/Powerpoint/Impress to produce good quality work. Be able to produce a short stop animation movie. Control/Programming (e.g FlowGo/FlowOl/) Simon (PS I personally do a lot of Scratch work with Y5/6 in my schools but I wouldn't expect that in most primaries)

I actually appreciate their approach - its the only way I get any exercise! And of course, it helps with the fault reporting as I get the teacher telling me that their comptuter hasn''t worked for the past year but they forgot to tell me! Si

Well, 90% of the teachers I know out on strike were planning on going shopping so its not surprising. You've got to give the unions full credit form making going on strike as attractive to teachers as possible and who would refuse the chance of a day off in the middle of a half term Si

Well I'm halfway through re-imageing the suite. As usual one of the computers (identical to all the rest) will not play ball - when I run ghost - I get garbage about not being to find the drivers - but apart from that - all going well Si

There is only one contender as starter language and that is Scratch You might only be learning it for a short time (depending on what age its introduced at) but you won't get any syntax errors I would then move onto any language that doesn't need a void main() line in order to work And then you can start doing your OO,metamorethick etc thingies Si PS Really looking forward to the Rasberry PI comign out

Its just that dropbox just works and I wanted the same functionality so I could easily run 2 seperate systems without having to juggle accounts. In practice , all I need is phone->server auto (or semi-auto) uploading Just tried cloudless out - it uploaded all my existing photos but is not uploading a new one I took an hour ago If you could name another one you've tried and is a bit more reliable I'd be grateful Si PS its just come through - picture taken 10:27 - arrived at server 11:01 (and thats having pressed all the sync buttons I could find even though its on automatic

As I said, I'm already using a dropbox account as my own technical tool and although I can run multiple dropbox accounts on my servers, I don't have a way of quickly changing which one I can upload to from my 'droid without logging out and logging in again. Si

I think the answer is no So back to orig question - is there another service like dropbox that I can upload pictures/videos from smartphone to cloud and have them synced automagically back to a server? Si PS Would rather use smartphone than a plain camera with wi-fi as so many other possibilities to use smartphone for other things as well

Sorry if I've missed the answer but will Picasa sync the uploaded pictures back down to the server without a manual refresh (a la dropbox)? Si
