I'm uploading a school plan layout to a Unifi controller but the wall lines are a bit thick - what technique can I use (in Gimp or paint.net - dont have photoshop) to thin them down so they don't swamp my network map? Any ideas? Simon http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1173161/zxw/wall.jpg

But unfortunately they are extremely poor value for money They can save lives that wouldn't have been saved and that is great but the NHS (e.g Joe Bloggs thru taxes) simply cannot afford to fund them. But it probably wouldn't break the bank to cut them some slack on fuel VAT as that is a lot better in the value for money stakes Si

I'd just like to repeat the thanks to EVERYONE who came my rescue over sourcing their last remainder stock of them. I believe some might have got into trouble with the Edugeek overlords and I'd just like to re-compense them for any knuckle-rapping they might have received at trying to help me out (at little financial gain to themselves!) I blame M25man for all the shortages - if he'd kept his mouth shut about them I'd still be buying Buffalo APs, installing WRT-DD and spending half my life configuring each of them separately. But for the same money, I can configure a whole school in about 20 mins but its taking half my life to get hold of some more! Si

As I said - its finding a supplier who will deal with me at all so I could at least put them on back order I got a pack of thres by using my own credit card and claiming the money back but auditors don't really like that sort of thing! I've used the standard Feed module to import my blog RSS feed into out website at Euxton CE Primary School but I'm lookign for some nicer options especially some sort of auto refresh on the blog feed (and it would be nice to have the wordpress posts and comments feeds intermixed - which I imagine would be down to a wordpress plugin????) Well either it was a real DDOS attack on my site or it was something going wrong with the computer I was working on the website from another school. I've doubled the javascript refresh time but I don't think it will really be down to the 50 browsers watching the site its OK at home with me now Si

It would seem that my little netbook doing (or so I think) an FTP image upload every 5 secs has effectively brought a DDOS attack onto Lancs Servers! (Either that or our viewer numbers have increased radically) Not quite sure of the actual facts but going back to the school to see what's happening there! I don't want to cause more load but if you know (from previous info) the website I'm talking about, then I'd appreciate if you could check it out from your end and post back here (without mentioning the URL please ) IF YOU DON'T KNOW THEN PLEASE DON'T GO LOOKING FOR IT!!!!! @at I use Yawcam as the capture/ftp upload prog. Then a fairly simple Joomla php/javascript module to show it. The Yamcam software is also saving an image every 1 sec to the machine its running on so I can make a nice timelapse movie of the eqqs hatching Simon

I've got primaryblogger setup for some of my schools but I'm having reliability issues and need a reliable one for next 2 weeks for my chickcam. As a lot of you know, I just use servers as file/print/dhcp/dns servers with XP home/Win7 Starter clients. I don't use AD. I'm setting up a new school (new to me that is) 40 new Win7 clients with about 20 old XP Machines with a new physical server machine. Should I go with w2k8 instead of my tried and tested w2k3. Will it give me any advantages for my non-AD setup.? All will it give me headaches? regards Simon

I have schools with TheLifeChannel in them. For years - the answer has always been no when I've asked if they (basically streaming media servers) can be made visible from outside CLEO. Now, people keep telling my heads that it works but NO-ONE will supply the information as to how to actually get this working (Or even the paperwork hoops needed to get the ball rolling). Yesterdays conversations with 1. OneConnect - its all setup to work - one school in Lancs is doing it - no we don't know which one!!!!! - contact THeLifeChannel for details. 2. TheLifeChannel - takes a day to reply to my email and then they send me standard guff to embed in website as if we have an external IP. (PS TheLifeChannel are in Preston but seemingly completely oblivious as to how the school networks work in Lancs. Of course, my head is starting to blame me as he keeps on being told that it can be done by whoever he speaks to on the phone. As usual, I believe the Dark Lords are just having a laugh! One of my school secs keeps having problems accessing her school comptuer from home using CLEOs sun global desktop setup. I get it working - she takes it home - and then 2 weeks later says it doesn't work. Anyway, heads decided to get her a school laptop and I've come to set it up and its failed Basically, after I've sucessfully got past the login screen - its says it needs to install JRE (despite JAVA being installed) and when I click on the manual install the client - it takes me to an error apache page! Anyone able to shine a light on this please? Si
