I don't have a retail xp or win7 to do this And the prog wasn't "installed" on the XP machine - I just copied the folder (it wasn't in Program Files) from the old Win95 disc to a folder in WinXP and it just runs as a standalone app Si

I've a dad of a TA (82) who's XP computer died but still wants to run an ancient package called Mini Office 2,1 as he has some historical data and he knows how to use the package When his Win95 machine died, luckily the package still ran on his new XP machine but I can't get it to run under Windows 7 (Home Premium). All I have is the installed folder (which runs fine in XP even from a USB stick) If anyone likes a challenge and reckons they can run anything on Win7 - please contact me and I'll send you a copy of the folder to play with. I tried deploying the Avervision aver+.msi to an XP machine with my normal method of installing msi from a shared network folder (%PACKAGES%) e.g msiexec /i "%PACKAGES%\aver\aver+.msi" /qb! but after a while the install wanted access to a data1.cab file so I copied the whole of the cd to %PACKAGES%\aver and re-ran it and it worked. But then it finished and then went onto ask me if I wanted to install some msxml thingy - I said yes and everthign worked. But in all my previous usuage of msi's - they have all run without interaction using the /qb! and they've never needed any supporting files. Have I been lucky up till now or unlucky with this one (and is there a simple workaround)? Simon

One of my teachers(primary) would like the computer club to make a web virtual walkthrough of the school. Any ideas of how to do this? beyond simple html links from one photo to another? Simon

Is the way it is at the moment. If they ran a lot of the present Windows/Web based educational content then they could be useful - but they don't As specialised video/music tools, the IPads are very good but its a niche that doesn't justify the expense in most cases. Si

I've not found a solution that works with all my different hardware and because most of my machines are wireless, the USB hard drive method usually gives me the least grief (except when the machine is sol old it doesn't recognise that an exteranl USB drive is a valid boot device ) I tried FOG for a while but it didn't play nicely with a couple of netbook models sos I abandoned it. I actually tried a free product called RedoBackup today on a Win7 machine but it couldn't find the server share (found plenty of printers it decided were up to the job of holding an image ) Si

I would say how can a professional employer expect their workers to their jobs without providing them with the tools to do it I don't mind a HT saying I'm going to save money by not buying laptops/photcopier paper/sealing the leaking roof but I don't think these are good business descisions. I would particularly respect a HT who led by example (as oposed to wanting an Iphone/IPad/laptop every year/personal colour laser printer and Desktop machine provided for them ) Si

My view is that employers should pay out (and generally do) for extra kit that workers need to do their job above and beyond clothes, shoes and the means of getting to normal place of work. Teachers generally need computers to prepare lessons and since they do this at home and at school, then a laptop is normally a good solution for this. I do think it is a very good idea to provide a fixed computer in the classrooms as the teaching machine instead of teachers plugging and unplugging theirs. This costs money but its just the price of education/doing business. Simon

Just did mine yesterday. (In order to edit my /etc/gps.conf file as my gps is still bad ) Used this method which (AFAIK) just basically replaces the kernel bit of the phone software. I was on a KI4 revision so just chose the CF-Root-SGS2_XW_NEE_KI4 file. Ran very quickly (I thought it was too quick but I got the yellow warning triangle on reboot (Which shows its rooted) and everthing seems OK Si

But at least my pm school is still off- so luckily a half-day to ease me back in Si PS Happy New Year
