Hi, had to call eStream after hearing about price rises as our renewal was up. They've assured me there are no price rises and in fact they prices haven't changed for a number of years. Might be worth calling them to find out for yourself @MD5T

Do you get an error? Do you use a proxy? If so you may need to use the details for the WebClient to work

I think IE prior to 9 were so poor they left a very bad impression. in my opinion 9 and 10 were a vast improvement and made up for earlier awfulness. I have only had brief experience with IE11 but on W8 it looks annoying.

I do think it is a shame that PowerPoint is used so heavily and in turn a lot of signage content relies on it. In today's world its a dinosaur and just isnt flexible enough across platforms. Sadly I think it will be a while before PP is phased away from being used so often in the education world. There are some terrible solutions out there that will never cater for the needs of a college, but there are some out there that do. Its just finding the right one for your needs, our system lets us put together our PPs, feeds from the internet, weather from the Met Office etc. Its main restriction is being Windows based as far as the signage players go, but its not a major bind.

We have eStream and that does lesson capture, we haven't used it for that yet. I seem to remember the guy giving a demo mentioned that other universities and colleges have been using it for lesson observation and assessment. I am sure we will look to use it at some point. We used the free signage software on our estream system. Lets you upload powerpoint and we find it easy to use. If it didnt come free then we would have probably used something like Xibo. Less money spent the better really.

I agree Moodle is a little clunky and requires the administration. If you have the budget from the Frog outgoings maybe it could be better used on another provider, i'm always one for getting a demo in on site.

I suppose it depends if you have a budget or not. If you do have a budget then it is worth looking for the right solution, some come with extra features. Open source and free ones are great, they are free! But they do require some work and time dedicated to get them up and running and maintain. We went with a purchased system and once its setup we have not had to dedicate much time at all for management, plus it come with a bunch of other features.

Only jumping in because I have had to do something with Moodle recently. Don't go with Moodle unless you have a dedicated Moodle lord! It just feels like intranet software from 1999 and just doesn't stand up against other modern web services available. If you have a budget then you have to look at the Sharepoints, Fireflys and Frogs to get something that will engage students and staff. Shiney shiney! horrible to admit it but its the truth. (yes you can skin Moodle but thats like painting a Austin Meastro Ferrari Red, its still a Meastro!)

Office 365 Integration | Firefly - To be fair they do continue to develop their product, makes such a difference when you chose to invest money into a VLE.

Do you have a budget? If so it may be worth looking at FireFly.

I agree, completely unnecessary with today's on demand services.

planet eStream is used at our place, they added digital signage to the solution so we went with them. We have set it up to broadcast BBC news to our displays. Plus a music channel to the 6th form common room. Def recommend a look.

We use eStream with a USB device called DVD maker 2. I'm guessing that are something similar would work. Esteam and I guess click view will work with devices that windows has drivers for. EStream also works with a capture card we can capture 2 sources from at once!

We use logmein, better interface than Teamviewer I feel with more options.

Our signage came free with the Planet eStream system that we purchased a few years ago, an advantage over xibo is its easier for non technical users to use. But obviously there is cost involved, if you are lucky you may already have it!

Is the intranet site internally developed, or third party? could the third party provide any assistance? Other than trying the app pool under a high level domain admin account I am running out of ideas.

Can you change the identity of the application pool the intranet site is running under in IIS? Try Network Service if it already isn't. The error you are getting is purely server side when it appears to be doing a look up on the domain controller where your AD is. It is baffling without further information as to why it would work on IE8/9 and not 10.

I would recommend updating the server. The error is definitely coming from server side and appears to be an issue with the AD API that the intranet site is using to confirm the identity passed by the browser. IE10 has been released by Microsoft with a new User Agent string that Windows Server .net components dont recognise. I had an issue that was only happening in IE10 and updating the server with windows update rectified the problem. It may do the same for you as it could be related. I would say it is a medium to long shot.

I would suggest MetOffice DataPoint but I dont believe you can get historical data from it. There is historical data available from them but probably not as verbose as the forecast API they provide. Use it myself.

What server is the intranet site running on? If it is a windows server I would recommend running all windows updates.

I would use a different port and give it a go, if it can be made available through your external firewall

You will more than likely hit some issues if you want the stream to reach people outside of the school network. VLC will be using a protocol (maybe rtp) to send the stream across the network and it will be using a specfic port. This port will need to be opened by your network administrator. It was the same for us using flash media server, port 1935 needed opening. If you are able to get the stream to users at home then you may want to consider what quality you are recording at, lower bitrates will give you a better stream experience.
