Using Windows 7 repair to change the edition.
StevieM replied to X-13's topic in How do you do....it?
I don't believe it! I sysprepped the old Win 7 Pro image (after applying updates) and the same error message occurred when I restarted the machine. So I decided to research the entire 'Windows could not finish configuring the system...' message and found the solution here. To summarise - Boot into safe mode. 'Setup cannot install Windows in safe mode. Setup will continue after restarting.' Restart and everything works! I wasted over a week on this! -

That was amazing! I think every order of 30 or more VeryPC computers should come with a free giant generic construction tower-based game. Oh, wait...Our Pirate PCs did...and I threw it away! EDIT: PS - Looking forward to next weeks drag race. Eh?! Eh?! -
Vetoed. Er... I mean, voted!

Good point! At least during a previous competition he had the excuse of introducing a Gonklet into the world. -

We've had Office 2013 installed across the school for about 2 years now. Suddenly, certain computers are presenting a message that Office 2013 requires activation. We have just renewed our EES subscription, but surely we don't need to reactivate the licences again... do we? Has anybody else had this issue?

Just been reading up on this a bit more. The same applies to IE10, apparently. https://sysadministration.wordpress.com/2013/03/15/sysprep-fatal-error-with-ie-10/ I thought I'd post this link in case anyone else had similar problems. -

Uh-oh! I've made a dreadful temporal mistake. It's Back to the Future Day and, while playing catch-up on the thread, I watched the Socktober videos... in the wrong order! Rips in the space-time continuum will undoubtedly ensue. -

Aaaahhhh!!!! Now then. That kind of makes sense! The machine previously had ie8 on it and it took several attempts in order to get ie11 to complete the installation. Even when it did, it still ran ie8. That's me stuffed then. Back to Pro it is. Edit: Actually, I'm going to boot from the Enterprise installation media and see if I can repair it first... -
Using Windows 7 repair to change the edition.
StevieM replied to X-13's topic in How do you do....it?
Ssssooooooooooo... The upgrade went fine. Then I Sysprepped the machine and captured the image without any problems. However, when I restarted the computer - ‘Windows could not finish configuring the system. To attempt to resume configuration, restart the computer.’ - Setup will continue after restarting your computer. Only it doesn't; it just presents the same message. I'm sure it's something I've done as I've never actually sysprepped a machine before. That was always done (or not) by external third-party support. My plan is to restore the Win 7 Pro image and sysprep that to see if I can at least do that right. -

I've got classes in here with me EVERY LESSON now (and it's driving me crazy!!). I daresn't spend too much time on the Socktober thread in case I suddenly burst out laughing at something and have to explain myself. -
Shared iPads/Tablets and web logging
StevieM replied to localzuk's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
This is something that I've thought about, too. We don't have iPads... yet... but it's almost inevitable. I may come to you for a bit more info when we do, @fairm010. -

I've been looking at this for a while and finally got around to trying it out this week. One of the laptops had a failing hard drive, so I replaced it with an SSD, reapplied the image then upgraded to Enterprise while I was it. I'm currently installing updates before I sysprep it and capture the upgraded image. I'm going to recommend upgrading all the staff laptops to SSDs and doubling the RAM to 4GB in order to add at least a year or two to their life expectancy. Having an Enterprise image to deploy means we can use BitLocker to keep everything just that bit safer. Cheers, @X-13! -

5 Thanks says this HAS to be a thing. Maybe not this week, maybe not next week, but soon - before the end of the month - this HAS to be a thing. And... As one of the thanks was from @VeryPC_Ross - I'm on your team, fella. (You know I love you, Col, but, I still feel guilty for dragging Ross all the way over to Liverpool for us to be still dragging our feet over replacing our projectors.) Yaaaayyyy, @Gonk!! I now have your previous hits buzzing around in my head: How about promises I doubt you'll be keeping? Seriously, what is the purpose of Closed Captions on YouTube apart from causing hysterics? I have, literally, sat here in tears laughing at that. Whoever is in the next room to me in the B&B must be wondering what on earth is going on. Even Jess the dog was looking confused and barking at me from across the room. -

I can't join in the shenanigans properly until next week as I'm on a Group Policy course in Worcester and not online. However, I've just spent over an hour and a half going through the entire thread from the beginning and I have to say... Car park drag race! Colin and Ross race across the car park in dresses, wigs and high heels! You can't say you don't want to see that (without being a massive liar!). I don't know, @VeryPC_Colin_M. What did the sock say to the foot? -

WHY... DIDN'T... ANYBODY.. TELL ME!! 7 days in and I'm only just joining the party. -
Personally? Unless it's less than 4 years old, I'd buy a new unit. The cog on the mirror motor is notorious for breaking. We've had every single one of the 13 units we bought replaced under warranty at least once, and some 2 or 3 times. I give Hitachi their due, though. They admitted it was a genuine design flaw and agreed to extend their warranty to 5 years for this model and this issue only. All of ours are now outside even the extended warranty so, when the next lamp goes, we're going to replace the whole projector.

The options you need are 'If an email is sent to/ received from Outside the organization [sic]'. I've set 'Do the following' to 'Prepend the subject with 'Blocked Mail' and redirect the message to [account]@[domain], so that I audit any failed attempts, but you can choose to do what you like.
