  1. would have loved to have met him. Mark Hamill described him as a gentle giant - and what everything I read and seen that’s what he was. RIP Chewie
  2. Try Mosyle MDM. Free tier is very good and should be enough for a small school. Doesn’t necessarily exclude per user installs but generally I’d encourage a school VPP Account and all licenses(free or paid apps) go through that. The It co-ord can then deploy an app from a browser from anywhere.
  3. As above. SSD everything.
  4. I think Jon or Daenerys will have to kill the other. Jon is a Targaryen though. And you can see the dragons respond to him.
  5. That’s my concern. She’s sort of fulfilled her destiny in a way. She’s so bad ass and been a favourite of mine for a while. Still think the throne is Sansa’s. She has a cunning ruthlessness about her now.
  6. I don’t think I did for an hour. Realised during one of the adverts and needed a couple of minutes to recover. Brilliant t.
  7. Agreed it’s very tough, especially when your heart is set in it. The market of course has an effect but buying at the right time also helps (end of financial year etc). People also seem to be getting hung up on ‘20k less’ valuation. Just get ~£20k or more off the asking price of new build. Take control. Don’t be afraid to say no. You CAN negotiate so don’t take the first offer if anything.
  8. I wouldn’t get hung up on what they offered you, more if the overall deal is worth it and affordable. If they offer you less than you’d hoped, ask for money off of if they can gift you money off. From their sale price. Worth haggling for whatever you can get. I’d take whatever the sales people say with a pinch of salt. They may have people viewing but who knows what position they are in? Try to really go with your head not your heart tho. BE PREPARED TO SAY NO. We managed to be patient (as desperate as I was to move) and got a very good deal on ours. I’ve also said prices were too high and they’ve phoned back to ask what they could do. Just be confidence in your valuations and it’s affordability for you.
  9. Do primary schools really need ssd for data storage? We’d have sad for Host OS and VM storage. Data would be on large Raid1 / Raid10 mechanicals. For the OP I’d go raid 5 with the 600gb disks otherwise you’d be struggling for capacity (spending on school size). My experiences with storage spaces isn’t great but worth considering too. Edit: Notice you have 6 x 600gb (I read as 5x originally). RAID10 might do it depending on usage.
  10. Also avoid persimmon.
  11. We got a good price for ours. Negotiate hard. Whether it’s more for yours and/or less for the new one. Find out when the builders year end is - more chance if a deal. Also can be good at the start of a new build estate. Top tip our financial advisor fella gave us was get them to gift you 5%. That way it looks like they sold for a high price but you get a discount on the price. Win win. As for cabling, no chance if you doing it. I would approach them / one of the contractors direct.
  12. Ha, I had a tech work for me who always used to tell me off for just pulling the drive out. I don’t think I’ve ever done the safe removal. Just waited until the drive access light had stopped.
  13. As above. Always yes. The single best thing you can do to a computer in increase performance. Do it now. Do it yesterday.

    Storm Gareth

Woke me up last night in Rotherham/Sheffield. Seems to be the worst storm we’ve had wind wise of recent times. I’ve had a tree fall on the car some years ago - so always a little apprehensive about driving when it’s so windy.
  15. Thanks. Yes share point would be the big one and we want to involve all staff from the planning stages so everyone is on board. Did you consider Microsoft 365 for licensing?
  16. Interested in this as we’re looking at moving an academy trust to server less. Which machines to do you manage with Intune - windows or iPads too? What hardware do you have on-site (any storage, small Servers etc?)
  17. Use a wago connector. If it’s concealed you need something like that iirc. If you can get it under that floorboard so much the better.
  18. ah yes, a little cheaper here: https://cpc.farnell.com/apart/sdq5pir-w/stereo-speaker-set-inc-ir-rs232/dp/LS05031 Nice and simple install and easy inputs for teachers. And yes, no need to lose the remote (IT can keep it for emergencies!)
  19. Ah sorry, on checking they were different, more expensive speakers. very good though. The control panel is: https://cpc.farnell.com/apart/acpl/volume-control-local-input/dp/DP35359 again not cheap, but nice and easy for cabling and they are powered using a standard cat5 cable from the back of the speaker to the panel. You need a deep backbox/trunking though! Or a flexible Cat5 cable .
  20. We recently installed those too. With a rather nice PoE powered control panel
  21. I found an older install image of Mac is x from a link on the apple website (that opened App Store on the Mac). It wasn’t 10.10 but you might have some look going that way.
  22. I can’t get into Formula E. But this sounds a bit crazy and I’d like to see it.
  23. Heard lots of superhub 3 issues. I’m still on superhub2 but have ran it is modem only mode for a long time. A Mikrotik takes cares of everything else.
  24. We found one of our schools regularly hitting the 37mb limit that was generally the ceiling of their line with chrome books. We used the chrome management options to scatter the updates. And also setup a queue across all devices in the router to share bandwidth more equally. Problem largely solved
