You are right Witch apologies are useless. Thankfully those in power have seen sense and changed these archiac laws. It is much the same as some local councils etc 'apologising for and pardoning' people hanged and burnt as witches in times gone past. It hasn't changed anything at all for them as the treatment meted out was done and they are gone. Am glad we are living in more enlightened times.

I suppose the sigificance was that back then his life choices were illegal. In that respect he was hounded to death. It was and is disgraceful that a so called civilised country behaved in such a way towards it's citizens. Thankfully we have come a long way since, but there are still elements in this country that make the lives of lesbians and gay men horrendous. Our sexuality is only a tiny element of what makes us who we are, it does not determine how I run a network or fix a pc. I for one would have liked to see what Mr Turing could have achieved in his life and what wonders he could have brought to the IT world.

In one of my previous employs even when the procurator fiscal and police said no case to answer people could still be sacked. They said even though there was no case to answer 'the balance of probability is that we think you did it' and sacked people anyway!!!

Been following this thread. My thoughts are that there have been several cases already in the media of people being fired for comments about their jobs. We all teach kids how to be safe online. How not to give out details that will render them at risk. Adults too need to be mindful that as said earlier not being the owner of said blog or site leaves you wide open to scrutiny on anything you post there. Basically it get's down to covering your backside at all times jobwise. Common sense in most cases.

I talk to everyone here. We are lucky in that we have a good ethos here. The management try and include support staff in everything so it is not like most schools where it is a them and us type scenario. That and the fact the am probably a blether!!
