Same here, although I try and ensure that all apps are installed to every machine or to the network where possible to reduce the dead links.

We have Mandatory profiles for students, "My Docs" redirects to H and they get a redirected Start Menu and Desktop. About to make the change for staff when I've got the redirected Favourites working and I can force a "Cannot create xxx - folder is read only" error when they try and save to the Desktop.

I'd probably still live quite a normal existence. Get a nice big house somewhere quiet near the coast with plenty of garage space and do up some cool modern classics. I can't say I'd go for the Ferraris like most lottery winners because I have super long legs and can't fit into them. I'd honestly be happy with a decent MGF and a Pug 205.

I've just had a recycling company round and we were talking about academies. He said he's taken (FOC, not paid to take) some fairly good condition (<1 year old) stuff from schools becoming academies. I'm disgusted that we're having to make do with second hand equipment and other schools are giving the same kit away to recyclers.

And if you visit any Northern town and ask the public, they'll vote Labour and no-other either "because my father did, and so did his father" or "I'll never forgive Thatcher for closing down the knife and fork factories and the pits".

Because AV is useful there as all the candidates are on the same party. If there was a leadership contest I could easily vote in order of preference. But for a national election there is no way I would put a second or third choice.

There needs to be some collaboration. For years we've been asking our LEA to take the lead in getting us bulk discounts for stuff but nothing has ever come of it. We've had more success arranging things ourselves between network managers of the 15 secondary schools in the borough.

Mine too, although we don't really need a device like this to teach kids to program - we all have lots of PCs in schools already where we can install programming languages (Beebem here!) or allow USB Linux sticks to be used under supervision. We need time in the timetable and competent teachers.

Whatever you do, don't start cold calling schools. I give cold callers the cold shoulder - excuse the pun - because we get about 20 calls a day. Send something through the post, I'm more likely to read that during break.

Maybe people voted NO simply because their politics are black-and-white. Take me for example, if AV was introduced I would vote Conservative and no other. The Lib Dems and Labour played a very nasty smear campaign in my area last year so there is absolutely no way I'd give them my second choice vote.

Thanks for that. I usually just run a DELPROF batch file on a server every week or two. The machines have the User Profile Hive Cleanup Tool installed though.

We're going straight to 2010 for curriculum but on the admin network where SIMS is used we went to 2007. We were advised that 2010 wasn't supported.

I agree to the "gimmicky" phrase, that's my opinion too. The only time they're useful is when we over-ride them with an important information item, but that could easily be circulated by paper on a traditional notice board.

I'd get senior management to speak to the former member of staff first to clarify what was deleted and that it may be recovered. If I heard that my former employer was recovering deleted files from an old machine of mine I'd be a little concerned at their reasons. If it were me, anything local would be wiped and not recovered, as all school relevant files should be on the network drives.

There was a Windows Update a couple of weeks ago which made the "applying Computer Settings" prompt seem to take a bit longer than normal, but a couple of reboots later it was fine. I think it was configuring the latest .NET.
