Windows dhcp for the ruckus APs Smoothwall for all the SSIDs The problem is that I can't get the APs to get a DHCP address, and here is no ip helper on an hp 2510g. The vlan interface was created on a 3com switch layer 3 E5500. So the APs are trying to talk to DHCP but dont reach that far. This is the route an AP should take: AP --> HP 2920 --> HP 5406zl (core switch) --> 3com E5500 --> HP 2510 --> DHCP server ACLs on core switch allows all traffic on 172.17.80.0 to 0.0.0.0 The vlan interface (gateway) was created on the 3com where as all others were created on core switches. I get the feeling I need to do. Something on the layer 3 3com to allow the APs to servers. Any help would be great!!

So in summary, controller sits on vlan 80 untagged, tagged 81-87 for SSIDs. APs untagged 80, tagged 81-87 for its SSIDs. Do I need to setup the access vlan on each controller for the ipv4 address to 80 also, or is 1 ok? Do I also need to change the access vlan 1 for the management IP to 80? Do I need to set the AP policies to vlan 80 or keep it set to "AP settings"?

Ruckus say you have to trunk each individual port as a trunk so the APs can carry multiple tagged VLANs, or something like that. Can I achieve this on a HP switch network without trunking a port.

According to Ruckus you need to make sure that if your ruckus network is sitting on a VLAN and your SSIDs on different VLANs, then your switch ports are tagged and trunked. I'm in the process of doing this but can't figure out why our APs can't talk to the DHCP server.

You only need to run smart ink to draw on software that isn't notebook. Like all new things these days they have built smart notebook to run comfortably on core2duo or above processors. Won't be long before software on PCs will force us to upgrade them more frequently.

To simplify what I am after, the zone directors can be ping or accessed via web interface on a static ip in vlan 80. (172.17.80.10) BUT they cannot talk to our Ad server/DNS servers etc.... They are on vlan 1000 (172.20.1.10 etc) Also the APs cannot get a dhcp address from windows dhcp server. The VLAN 80 is setup on all switches as tagged ports. Do I really need to trunk any ports? The dhcp server range is activate. The zone directors are plugged into an hp 48 port switch which connects to a layer 3com in turn connects to two core 5406 HPs. I have ACLs on the two core switches which allow 172.17.80.0 access to all. My servers are also connected into the same 48 port switch but on a different vlan. I don't understand what I'm missing. Please ask as many questions as possible

We have just installed a new ruckus wifi network, so are you saying not to tag any vlans to do with ruckus and SSIDs and to just assign the VLAN on the SSID within the controller software, even if the SSIDs are on different subnets?

If staff are using the same Apple ID then assuming automatic downloads are turned on each iPad they all will get a copy BUT this is against apple T&Cs so to cover yourself just buy as many app codes for one single app to cover all the iPads. What you will tend to find is that staff will create there own Apple ID and buy their own apps if they are cheap enough.

Further to add, yes the same ID can be used on multiple devices. So the same apps will appear on all devices if you have automatic downloads turned on. The problem occurs if you intend to have different users for each iPad then you need an app redemption code per iPad. In Meraki you add all 5 codes to the App you want to use and then distribute a single code to 1 iPad and it would install on all iPads, if they are logged in with the same iTunes account. If you buy 5 codes and distribute just one, even if you have four spare, they would in theory be allocated to the remaining iPads, and thus fulfil the licensing from apple. Meraki is great for distributing settings, apps via Tags.

VPP accounts created inside are only allowed to purchase apps. A standard Apple ID account will be used with the redemption codes sent to the VPP email address that made the purchase. If you have created a VPP apple ID then you cannot convert it to a standard iTunes account, I phoned Apple regarding this and they said they can't do anything in converting these over, I had created about 20 before I realised it wouldn't work. Hope this helps!!

Biggest problem you have is not being able to stop pupils disabling wifi and accessing the Internet over 3G.

Tagging VLANs is the way we do it. We have about 20 VLANs. But we don't use default VLAN out of choice.

Do some research into surge suppressors. Or get a good UPS from APC. There must be ways that towns which suffer from constant strikes manage to keep all the IT equipment online.

Some software need more than run as administrator. We ave used palmersoft runasuser which encrypts the domain credentials into a repackaged EXE. Works a treat. Vbscript a is a no no with things like this, as user can read the vbscript code and see the credentials in all its glory...

Currently in Meraki VPP codes that get assigned to iPads are assigned to the appleID that installs it and cannot be revoked. In apple configurator you can supervise the device to re-use VPP codes. We have the same issue, but are waiting for the change in VPP code licensing

Every time I try to install a driver for anything I always get a setup error and cannot continue. Seems as if there is an issue with the windows driver install process. Has anyone got a fix? I have all the correct driver files but nothing installs. The error logs just refer to driver install failure. No event logs.

The junction boxes are fine to use but over longer distances they may not be quite up to the job. When our building expansion goes ahead we have asked for complete new runs.

Does any know or use any web based sims.net or third party to access data for reporting, attendance etc... I know of sims groupcall emerge on the iPad but any other web beard apps then please let me know. Thanks in advance

An alternative and cheaper to smoothwall is ClearOS. Very good stuff!!

Search google for "sip trunks with IP office" there are a few examples of creating trunks to other organisation trunks, may be useful for you.

Hi, yes we setup DHCP for the VLAN for VoIP For VLAN 50 we used 172.17.50.* We excluded IPs 1-20 from the range as these were static IPs, 21-254 were totally DHCP. Our avaya box is sitting on 172.17.50.5 And voicemail pro box is 172.17.50.6 SIP trunks we don't use so can't offer any advice to our setup.
