  1. I wonder if you could update your excellent privacy settings guide? One of the admin staff lost it the other day and asked me for a copy, but of course the whole model has changed since it was written...
  2. This behaviour has always been the case, and it's always been a problem.
  3. Click it if you're curious, and please don't derail the thread any further.
  4. You're still tackling the wrong problem. I'd be much less relaxed about them being connected in the first place if it was me... (why are you still using WEP?)
  5. I already do this
  6. Nope, and it would be short-sighted to do so anyway.
  7. Give them a reservation with a stupid IP.
  8. Wrong. http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/rfc2131.html
  9. The birthday bot still being on hiatus... it's sparkeh's birthday
  10. A bunch of styled ul elements would let the browser determine flow more predictably. OP: one of these two approaches are the W3C's recommendation for getting rid of tables.
  11. So am I. Nope, you have everything you need already. Zone transfers are only useful when there are replication partners or zones who aren't AD-integrated.
  12. http://www.edugeek.net/forums/edugeek-net-site-problems/54087-windows-mobile-iphone-theme.html
  13. This may be true... ...but this is almost certainly FUD. There is a cost to the web server, but unless you're running it on an 8086 you probably won't notice. Debian having Apache package maintainers with brains, you can use Setting up an SSL server with Apache2 to get started. In a normal install, the default virtual host is defined in /etc/apache2/sites-enabled/000-default.
  14. why does this event deserve a thread?
  15. Returns files modified in last 20 days. Accessed time is -atime (though for FAT/NTFS filesystems, results may vary).
  16. That takes no account of the immediate payload: keylogging, spam broadcasting, and so on can all take place free as you like until you next reboot.
  17. The only reason they are 'less prone' is that nobody can be bothered to target a minority of users when they have so many Windows noobs to choose from. Why struggle to terrify the 5% of (considerably more experienced) *nix users into buying your fake anti-virus software when you can get the other 90% to do it with a kit worm? The few worms that are in the wild for *nix systems are many, many times more destructive, and anybody that thinks they're invulnerable because they don't use Windows is just plain stupid. (tip: for sensible versions of Ubuntu it's "apt-get install clamav clamav-freshclam clamtk rkhunter")
  18. Swap your server disks for blank ones one weekend and see how well your restores work...
  19. And ergo, hundreds of licensors, all with different ideas of how to squeeze money out of their customers, so you'd have to look at it case-by-case if this ever happens to you.
  20. The software I write is database-agnostic, so the customer chooses which back-end they want to use. Choice is good
  21. Take a forensic copy of any disk you want to read and only use the copy. Don't even spin the original drive up (except to do this). Don't mount or boot the disk, use a live CD to examine the files in isolation of any operating system installed, Windows particularly is terrible for clearing some clues up during boot and periodically.
  22. Install Ubuntu Server 10.04 LTS, and then say "sudo apt-get install apache2 libapache2-mod-php5 mysql-server phpmyadmin" and follow the prompts. Much easier, and the package maintainer has a brain.
  23. Are you stuck with CentOS or can you use a distribution with sane package managers?
  24. Nah, far too early for any of that yet. It won't be this year, and probably not next.
