  1. Finally raising the password complexity requirements on our domain but it is so old, I worry about finding what legacy script, service, whatever will get upset # Domain creation date (the domain you’re connected to) (Get-ADObject (Get-ADRootDSE).defaultNamingContext -Properties whenCreated).whenCreated # Forest root domain creation date (even if you run this from a child domain) (Get-ADObject (Get-ADRootDSE).rootDomainNamingContext -Properties whenCreated).whenCreated `` Mine said March 2005, this was months before I joined, so could be true.
  2. Recently installed a USW Pro Max 16 PoE as the existing POE switch died in a lunch time... Welp the replacement switch a USW Pro Max 16 PoE (great value POE) needs a bracket to fit in a standard rack. Welp the rack mounts are out of stock everywhere! I found some for cheap on ebay and could see they were 3d printed! My time to shine, took 6 hours and printed! and it fits ok, the only trouble was I only had the red/orange in the correct material.. Still better than just fudging it into the cab without a bracket at all! The large box on the right is to house the external psu. (didn't take a photo as my hands were full) Also I will address the patch cables in the summer...(probably not)
  3. I checked this and you are correct. The old Sharps are 'only' 28PPM, I wonder if there are settings for quality involved (super draft) or something.. Photocopy defaults the sharps are 2.5x faster easy.. quality on both look great.
  4. As I griped earlier in our move from Sharp to Konica (no CSV import users) another issue arises and I bet like us you'd make the same error in judgment. We've moved from the Sharp 2640n (8 yeas old) and 2651 (4 years) to the Konica Bizhub C301i. These machines look pretty similar are the same size but are much newer... Full colour, haptic feedback 14" tablet screens.. Welp.. They're slow, I mean 1/4 the speed slow.. How are new machines this slow.. 15 second job takes a minute, you can't wait for a 100 page print, you've got to leave.. Teacher started a job of 30 double sided 2 page jobs and after 8 minutes had to leave and said they'd send a pupil up for it.. I don't think SLT spent a second looking at print speed and I don't think I would have stopped to compare them.. OMG, these next 3 years are going to get annoying.
  5. We swapped from Sharp MFP's to Konica... SLT thought saving £20 a year was worth days of troubleshooting and re-training everyone... Anyhow without going into the fart inducing, rage quit numbness that is Konica... Here is the kicker, the cream of "because"... I CAN NOT IMPORT USERS! I have to use the screen or the webpage to fill in the form..... 120 accounts by hand.. Thank to co-pilot I learned of AutoHotKey and it saved my sanity somewhat... I couldn't fully automate but I got enough done.. cost neutral in terms of time.. Autohotkey is pulling from a CSV and tabbing through the page.. every time I use the hotkey it fills in the form. I couldn't fully automate as I'm not used to the program but I'm sure it was possible.
  6. Sorry to start a new thread on this topic of slow sims but my results may help people. I mentioned in another post how I was going to ask Wonde to sync only out of hours. Well, it was done for Monday and our admin staff are telling me that reports that took almost a minute are now done in seconds and I've had no calls about blue wheels at all this week... I'll keep posted but my original thought was that Wonde may be causing the occasional slowness with huge sql tasks (for my SIMS blue wheels about 2 calls a day) as we use classcharts and it syncs back to sims. I'd allocated massive ram, done all the SQL fixes and SIMS patches, Archiving, etc, Our CC were telling me to setup an SSD array (£nope£). None fixed the issues.. I only recently learned that Wonde was syncing throughout the day as I falsely assumed they only synced out of hours... Maybe this changed over the years? Wonde told me that they only sync every 2-3 hours but the results of out of hours sync seem to have improved the sims server all day... This is just our site and it has only been 4 days, no other changes have been made to the sims server.
  7. I wasn't aware but Wonde sync every 2-3 hours... They can upon request, make it sync out of hours. I've just today asked them to do this and I'll see if it stops the random blue circles of wait that plague my SIMs server. we use classcharts (through Wonde) so this might create large SQL oddities.
  8. Was talking about old car stuff, When I was a kid my parents and neighbours would get up and start their car before breakfast too make sure it would! (the morning filled with urdurd durd durd's) My mates first car that could have headlights OR windscreen wipers. Some vtuber the couldn't understand the phrase "roll the window down"
  9. I thought a single teacher had accidently associated PDFs with word. I'm seeing more now?! Not sure what is changing this, an office 2024 update or a Windows / edge update? I'm posting a quick "how to" to change it back. anyone else seeing this?
  10. No, this is the taskbar copilot. yay!
  11. it seems with the latest windows the GPO (to disable copilot) is ignored as they moved copilot to edge or something so the shell extensions all are enabled again.. They did this with proxy settings a while back as well... FFS MS the DEFAULT FOR NEW %HIT IS OFF
  12. I have purchased office 365 (for copilot) and the admin member comes to my office to do their exports! You can get office 365 for that member at about £34 per year. (or wait for the fix)
  13. "Couldn't help but notice, I'm considerably richer than you"
  14. For ever the APs have been auto channel, auto power... and its always worked well enough. Well I've been digging into channel utilization and actually reducing power to some APs to stop interference. Monitoring client retries etc. First time EVER!

  15. The camera app in Windows has had the QR button for years but would not work for wifi QR.... Well now it finally does.. Not sure how long but phew.. about damn time.. Camera app, qr code button, hold QR code to webcam, link appears below, click on link to open settings and accept new wifi.. not slick (esp if you've not used the camera before and location, mic and camera permissions arrive) still better than a usb stick.. yay!
  16. just saved £120 from recycling...

    HA HA RAM

Some of my older laptops (2021 - 2024) were kitted out with just 8GB of RAM. (as HP would charge £100 more for the 16GB model) as the laptops work well with 8GB at the time we didn't see the need to upgrade them... Well now is the time as some are starting to chug and OMFG.. £45 -50 for 8GB stick of DDR4.... EIGHT GIG STICK... FIFTY QUID... These were £15 last time I looked. I'm now going through my recycling looking for 50 pound notes in my old devices. if I can't harvest enough, they go without... (or I'll put slower 4gb modules in... so 8gb fast vs 12gb slow)
  18. I guess you have operational needs to not just use edge and avoid this pita. I just resisted and resisted and now it's all edge. So many users insisting they need the adobe reader for PDF even when using edge for weeks...
  19. I've been in the weeds on this one Quick fix, use intel wifi cards. Realtek absolutely kinda support it and pooh the bed when asked to miracast. (and they get really fussy if you use the touchback features) I've dumped all my Realtek based RTL8852CE and RTL8822 based wifi cards as they effectively do not support miracast. As I have AMD laptops I've had to use Intel AX210 cards (Wifi6e) but if I had intel based laptops I'd get a BE based Wifi7 card. but ANY Intel cards works great with Miracast as it is derived from Intel WiDI (I was using a 2017 intel 8265 just the other day worked a treat) good luck EDIT: Also ESET with firewall enabled but no rules will block Miracast! (turn it off or follow GPO firewall)
  20. Just an update to this thread, Lenovo support in the end stated that the laptops DO NOT SUPPORT this use case.... I can stop using the interactive feature and or stop using internet to make it work however. (so no miracast / interactive AND or internet) This may be related to the realtek cards not supporting MCC (Multi Concurrent Connection) ((but realtek state they do)) which although isn't required for Miracast is super duper handy. (MCC can use 2.4 and 5ghz separately, not the same as the new MLO in wifi7 btw) I am replacing all the realtek cards with intel AX210 cards, immediately better.
  21. Rather a few 4K screens here connected using VGA
  22. asked copilot if there was a fire drill today and it surfaced nothing... so out in the cold my butt goes.. it was a drill, I got an email 2 days ago... here is what copilot said in response: I was getting quite impressed at the power of AI then this total miss, reminds me..
  23. have you archived the attendance records.... ever. it helped a little my end. My records went back to 2004!
