Why the question about Sophos?

I believe our local Sims support team have go this up and running for certain schools in our area.

We had a quote of them as well before the end of the last term which was our second quote two years running, but everythime Stone Computers beat them. Our rep at Stone was very competitive and matched or beat them both years. Even the All-in-One solution Stone offered which includes a seperate unit that the base unit and the monitor fit and then all bolts to the desk was still competitive compared to Mikesoft. Stone also give a 5yr onsite as well and we've called them out and also replaced silly things like keyboards under the warranty. If anyone wants our rep's detaisl let me know.

I have ust installed the 2003 Sp2 admin tools pak on my XP SP2 pc. When i try to run the Active Directory User & Computers short cut it wont run, same with the Group Policy shortcut. All the other shortcxuts to all the other options in the admin tools folder work fine. Funny thing though, if i create a custon MMc with AD U&C in it works fine and i have access., same if i create a custom MMC for GPMC.....?? It complains it cant find or i do not have access to c:\windows\system32\dsa.msc but i have checked all the permissons and i do have access. If i choose 'run as on the ADUC short cut and run it as domain admin thenit runs which points to permsisions but i just can t work it out as i am a memeber of 'domain admins' Any idea?

I would liek the Start Menu> Programs list to appear in alphabetical order for every user who logs on the PC. If i log on as admin and set it correctly (Right Click and Sort by Name) and its fine. As soon as i log onto as a pupil then the menu is out of order. I have checked AD GPO and can't find anything in there. The pupils have mandatory profile, i thought it may be to do with this but i have added 4 extra software titles on the pc and 2 are in Alphabetical order and 2 are not - so there seems no logic. Any idea?

There is an issue with SP3 and HP computers. Also it afffects Intel boards as well. I can't find anything on the MS site but there is a little bit of info on the HP site.

I have downloaded this Mass Storage driver from Intel. Download Locations I have followed the intsructions to extract the file but i can't bloomin do it. Can some one help and try it out fo rme please? 7.2 Use one of the following command examples to extract the driver files from the different package types: c:\iata_cd.exe -a -a -pc:\ c:\iata_enu.exe -a -a -pc:\ c:\setup.exe -a -pc:\ When the command is run, the installation process begins; simply click through the dialogs as prompted. The catroot2 way is the only way i could get this to work

I have purchased the deployable Promethean software disc. I foll wed the instructions to get the deploy-able MSI ready and also created a transform file. The software and driver deploy with out any problem............ BUT the software will only work while plugged into the network. If the user wants to create resources or use the software at home then the software will not load and comes up with an error "cannot find application path" I have i installed this incorrectly or not configured the transform file right? Should the software work away from the network? Can anyone help please?

OK, If i uninstall XP SP3 the USB work and do not crash the PC. On further googling i have afound some small info on HP intel and AMD based PC's having problems. I'll try and find a cure or it looks like creating another image and leavinf XP sp3 off.......... :

We've tried doing that twice.

Tried this, even with restart disabled i do not see any thing. I cannot load into safe mode either.

I'll try the chipset drivers first tehn i'll try the sys files if that does not work.

i installed SP3 on top of SP2

it reboots, goes to the XP Logo where the blue bar flashes across the bottom and then stops.

Did you then re-enable USB after you imaged them?

I have a round 90 HP DC7700 pc's. They have been on our network now for over 12 months. The image i originally created works fine but over the holidays i updated the image. I just updated certain bits of software and added Adobe Web suite. I installed the Windows Updates it picked up but did not add or change any drivers. Now when anyone inserts any USB device ( Pen, HDD or Camera) the PC just shuts straight off (crashes) and then starts to reboot. This is happening on several machines i have tried today so i know its just not one fault Mobo. Help

Where can i get the lastest drivers from for the Cambridge/Hitachi boards? Is it a msi deployable and is it free?

So a normal GA cable is no good then?

We have been given a 77" Smartboard., no fixings etc but we do have a set of pens we can use from another board. The board has no cables etc. What is the quickest way i can find out if the board works? The board has a little dent but the membrane does not look broken. What leads do i need as a minumum to connect to it as i can only see what looks like a VGA connection?

One of our staff has tried to launch Nova T4 and it complains 'licence not found' Nova T4 works on his own laptop but he has gone onto anothe rrmachine and it does not work and complains about the licence. Any idea?
