So I find myself in the position of being on my own this year :Cry:and I am considering my holiday options for the summer. I was considering a group holiday with other billy-no-mates or maybe doing something by myself but I'm not really sure. Anyone got any suggestion/recommendations/experiences they'd care to share? I have looked at Trek America and similar and although I'd love to it, I might leave it until next year (I have a significant birthday in November ) I'm fairly easy where I go, as long as its warm and sunny and has some cultural interest. My age rules me out of 18-30 holidays! Cheers

I'm sort of with you on this - as someone who also lives alone, I really can't be bothered to spend much time on cooking for myself. However I am fortunate that as I get free school meals for doing a lunch duty once a week, its not really a problem. When I get home I go for a run and then its usually something between 2 slices, or something on toast! What I don't do is buy snacks and biscuits when I shop - if they are in the cupboard then they will be eaten!

Yes - someone else can manage the updates and so on! We had the issue where we would also need to replace the hardware (we are virtualised but didn't have the spare capacity to add a beast like Exchange) and there was also the anti-spam and AV licenses costs to add. The other consideration is the size of the mailboxes - up to 50GB each, which is way more than we could provide.

I was looking at this myself a while back and actually decided that cost wise it was better to go to Office 365, even though I was reluctant for a number of reasons. We did the migration in December and its been great. Have you considered it at all?

I was speaking more generally really - we've all heard of and maybe dealt with situations where someone has posted an inappropriate image and even though it can be taken down from the website etc, you never know if it has been downloaded and shared. Same goes for text messages and so on - so you'll never know when it will suddenly re-appear and although you might be able to do something about that too, the damage has probably already been done

Have you got logging turned on for the NPS? If not its worth doing so to see if anything obvious appears in it

Varies a bit here but in Jan we printed over 600,000 pages and last month (with a week less for half term) it was 400,000 pages. We use Equitrac to manage print here and it has helped reduce student printing, but not for staff which has gone up. I suspect this is due to the way teaching and learning has changed with individual lesson plans and so on. We also print huge numbers of revision guides. We have a very large printer in our resources office which has a 4 million page life (or duty cycle as they put it). Its past that point and still has over a year to go before it will be replaced. Bonkers!

Agreed, but I suspect she hasn't even considered what people know about her via social media. I spend quite a bit of time explaining to students and children that once that information (or worse still, images) is out there, you can never remove or retrieve it.

Well I was going to mention that - having been outside many hospitals and seen patients and staff smoking. Unfortunately its not against the law and while some hospital trusts have rules about it, they aren't enforced that well

You're right - its just the chances of it happening are so very slim. Actually spotting someone smoking in their car during the day will be difficult enough, but at night almost impossible. I don't expect too many tickets being issued for this. It seems strange to have to introduce such a law really - are some smokers so addicted to their weed that it comes above the health of their children?

I think its a great idea and long overdue, but the problem will be enforcement. Like getting caught with no insurance, not wearing a seating or using a mobile phone - it is just pure chance most of the time.

Same as everyone else here really - it's used to extract data for a number of different applications and it works just fine.

+1 for this. We introduced it several years ago and we have all bookable resources on it, and it works very well indeed. If only it could actually force staff to return the stuff on time!

Agreed - although once you know how its not so bad. We've put SSD's in a number of ours to keep them going for a bit longer and it does help. The other thing about the Ecoquiet's is that some models can't be expanded beyond 2GB RAM

Have you checked that HTTP 1.1 is enabled in IE?. as I know this can help iPlayer problems through proxies. Other browsers are usually OK a. Open Internet Explorer. b. Click on Tools, select Internet Options. c. Select the Advance tab; look for the HTTP 1.1 settings. d. Place a check mark on ‘Use HTTP 1.1 through Proxy connection’.

Yes the old data extract tool seemed to be OK and I had an incident where ZINET had grabbed over 1.5GB of memory and caused the SIMS server to run very slowly. I killed the process and restarted it and its been fine since.

Yep - we've been using it for quite a while now and it seems to be popular with staff.
