  1. Oh good, I can expect to be vaccinated sometime between January and July. Next year.
  2. If you feel put out by this, it’s understandable. You’ve been looking after the website for a long time and it’s being taken off your hands. Probably without so much as a thanks or a what do you think. It’s hard not to see this as a slight. However, going by my experience under similar circumstances, you may find this to be a blessing. You’re going to have a fairly major piece of work taken off your hands and, to be honest, one that possibly shouldn’t really be your responsibility anyway. Looking after a website is a job for a marketing person, not a technical one. Look on the bright side: When someone asks you to do something with it it, you can legitimately say ‘Sorry, not my system any more’ and send them on their way. Wash your hands of it, let your DH take the thing on and have more time to do productive things.
  3. Unfortunately 7726 depends on your provider supporting it. All off the major ones do but Plusnet, who I use, don’t and I’m sure some of the other smaller ones don’t either.
  4. Intune co-management with ConfigMgr is a thing, but I see it more as a path to migrate away from ConfigMgr to Intune, rather than a selling feature for ConfigMgr. ConfigMgr doesn’t replace WSUS and WDS, instead it uses both technologies for its respective parts. That said, it extends both quite considerably; using OSD in ConfigMgr lets you run thin deployments, i.e. deploying a bare OS them installing software and drivers as part of a task sequence. Software updates in ConfigMgr uses WSUS to acquire updates and to detect whether an update is needed, but ConfigMgr uses its own mechanisms to distribute and install them and is considerably better at reporting. Don’t go into this thinking that you’ll just be able to replace a couple of VMs with one; depending on the size of your organisation, you could easily end up with a lot more. At the moment, I have it running on about 12 VMs spread across multiple sites, looking after different parts of the product. It wants a lot of RAM and storage space for its databases, plus space for its library, multiple copies of things it’s actually distributing to computers and more. It’s a big, complex, hungry product and not something to be installed on a whim
  5. I think the question has to be, what problems are you looking to solve by moving to Configuration Manager? I’ll say right now, ConfigMgr is one of my favourite tools but you’re right, it’s a beast and it sounds like you’ve got things going fairly well as it is. Unless you’ve got a specific thing that you need to address or there is a gap that you’re looking to plug, moving over to ConfigMgr sounds like it would be a lot of work for not very much gain.
  6. If he doesn’t shout ‘Achtung’ and throw a grenade at the opposition, I will be very disappointed.
  7. There is no sequel to Jurassic Park. Just like there isn't a sequel to the Matrix or to Highlander.
  8. According to the spec sheet here: https://h20195.www2.hpe.com/v2/getpdf.aspx/c04168365.pdf They can take >3tb drives with a firmware upgrade. The biggest drive that HPe list on that spec sheet is 6tb, part code J9F36A It’s pretty likely that these devices will only accept drives with HPE firmware, so don’t go buying a larger generic NL-SAS or SATA drive at Ebuyer or whoever and expect it to work.
  9. With some of our PCs, there was something in a user’s profile that was preventing the upgrade from completing. In the end, I changed the task sequence to log the computer off and delete all cached profiles. That seemed to do the trick.
  10. I don’t know anything about HWB or how they’re set up, but you’d think that once you’re in Teams, performance would be the same as it would be for someone who’s using their own tenant. Authentication could conceivably be slower if they’re using their own ADFS farm to authenticate users instead of Microsoft’s own systems.
  11. If ParentPay is now managing ESS, what's going to happen to SIMS Pay? Ironically, we were looking to move away from ParentPay to SIMS Pay.
  12. Stop calling me Shirley!
  13. My girlfriend and I have been watching Wanted, an Australian drama about two women who witness a murder, end up becoming suspects and go on the run. It’s on Netflix It’s actually surprisingly good. The leads are good, writing is as well. We’re just coming to the end of the second series. The one criticism I do have about it is that it does sometimes succumb to Small World Syndrome, which does occasionally break my suspension of disbelief
  14. This is the thing, in my experience a cheap pair of headphones tend to sound ok, but when you directly compare them with a more expensive pair, you can notice the difference. I have a few different pairs of headphones which I use for different purposes: A Sony Bluetooth headset worth about £50 A pair of closed Sennheiser over-ear headphones, I forget the model number but relatively cheap, worth about £40 A pair of Sennheiser HD555 over-ear headphones, worth about £160 when I bought them long ago. Some Aftershokz bone conducting headphones Used individually, they sound fine to me but when I use one set after another, there is a noticeable difference in terms of sound reproduction, clarity, base response, even comfort. The HD555s are by far the best sounding set of cans I’ve got but are utterly impracticable away from the hifi. The Sony’s don’t sound fantastic but they’re light and being wireless makes them good for walking. The cheaper Sennheiser cans are generally what I use at the computer and the Aftershokz are for when my ears are blocked.
  15. A bit late to the party perhaps, but I’ve just finished watching Good Omens on Prime. Very impressed. Fantastic cast, all perfectly suited to their roles. Excellent adaptation of the source material, thoroughly enjoyed it.
  16. I think the short answer will be that they're not; they'd be moving onto systems like Intune and Autopilot to provision Windows devices out of the box. Similar to DEP for apple devices.
  17. IT will be interesting to see what's inside them once someone performs the inevitable teardown. I hope someone does a direct comparison with a Beats Studio headset (Beats are owned by Apple these days), just to see what's different.
  18. I wouldn't get Surface hardware personally, over expensive for what it is, pretty awful in the reliability rankings and completely non-repairable. I'd be looking at Dell or Lenovo. Better support. Better warranty. They don't have the apple-esq shiny-shiny but overall I think they'd be better.
  19. You license Datacentre for your hosts, you can run unlimited Windows Server VMs on anything running Windows Datacenter. We're well past the point where that makes sense. That won't cover other OS licenses such as any Linux distro that needs a paid license, or macOS. It also won't cover running client Windows.
  20. In the region of 120, spread across four schools and 12 virtual hosts
  21. I think eBay is probably your best bet, if you don't have the budget to buy new. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fujitsu-PFU-fi-5750C-Sheetfed-Flatbed-Dual-Feed-55ppm-A3-A4-Document-Scanner/283999379369?hash=item421fae9fa9:g:oh8AAOSwvBFfUVH6 There are drivers for it for Windows 8, which means it will probably work with Windows 10. Might be worth firing a question off to the seller asking if they've tried it with W10? Otherwise you're looking at £650 minimum. /edit Alternatively, have you considered contacting a local print/copy shop? Some of them might offer a scanning service. Depending on how much you need to scan, that might end up being a better value option?
  22. I found it a lot more reliable when I used the driver built into the OS, rather than one provided by Lenovo or Realtek.
  23. They don't make it the easiest thing to find. If you edit your profile on a computer, there's an option called "Autoplay previews whilst browsing on all devices". I don't think you can change it in-app, it has to be done in a browser. Or it certainly did, anyway.
  24. I was made very happy when Netflix gave us the ability to turn off the autoplaying of trailers in their apps.
  25. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/tier-2-pub-restrictions-coronavirus-substantial-meal-b1767116.html This is just sad, albeit completely unsurprising when I come to think of it.
