  1. Are you seriously telling me that a 2.4GHz telephone causes absolutely no effect on a 2.4GHz wifi network ? Unless they are DECT, 5GHz or VoIP phones they will interfere with a 2.4GHz WiFi network.
  2. Most phones run on 2.4Ghz and just because you don't notice doesn't necessarily mean it's not causing a problem. Of course it's fine if the phone is 5Ghz or vice versa.
  3. There is a good chance these will interfere with your wireless network if you have one.
  4. yes lets I think for environmental reasons is acceptable along with not liking meat. It's those that don't eat meat because they like the furry animals who make me puke.
  5. No reason to be vegetarian now.
  6. Looks like it won't make it. Using Kickstarter data to predict Ubuntu Edge's success | OpenAnalytics
  7. just my 2p but the actual ICT involvement in maintenance is tiny. All the time is spent maintaining the VLE content which is going to be the same on any platform. We basically do two updates per year on Moodle which take about 15 min each. All the database optimisations and server upgrades are automated with the occasional reboot for kernel updates. It's not a very big deal given the initial server setup takes all of 40min.
  8. We used to have issues with outlook going offline, but that was back in the MSExchange days and nothing to do with Google apps...
  9. I bet The Verge will have something to say about that.. oh. wait...
  10. looks interesting. Problem here is that as soon as you want to scale up to something more sensible you start having to throw stupid amounts of money at it.
  11. You could probably use apache virtual hosts (not the same as virtualisation) and keep it on one box. That said it might be simpler to split them into discrete virtual machines. If you do decide to split them, put them on a KVM hypervisor. oVirt
  12. It's also worth looking at attendance figures etc. 2 or 3 hundred pounds every couple of years isn't a great deal of money in the context of how much each pupil brings into the school ( £4k per yearish depending upon your area, pupil premium, sixth form etc.)
  13. But did the grades improve?
  14. We tell all 6th formers to bring in their own devices. KS4 it's 'recommended' but not compulsary. We have a bursary scheme for students who can't afford it to get a device provided by the school. The breakage rate is also high (50%) for devices provided by the school but much lower when the students or parents pay for them.
  15. The hope is that the silicon anode battery will help with this, and that it will use a regular power source when used in desktop mode. It's worth reading the link that @Arthur posted where Shuttleworth has answered a lot of questions about edge.
  16. https://www.libreoffice.org/download/4-1-new-features-and-fixes
  17. I know. The whole ofsted thing is utter BS because if they never stick to the critera schools can only ever get an arbitrary score.
  18. Yeah. I though this is what we were talking about - encrypting hard drives ?
  19. It's under the e-safety section: Ofsted | Briefings and information for use during inspections of maintained schools and academies in the file called "inspecting e-safety.doc" It states "Indicators of inadequate practice: Personal data is often unsecured and/or leaves school site without encryption." Technically this will score you a 4. but like I said: The VAST majority of inspectors don't seem to understand their own frameworks, or completely ignore them.
  20. @Arthur Thanks because a friend was asking about them. Can't afford one myself having forked out £400 for a non existent phone.
  21. Like all the BS about SurfaceRT pre-orders being sold out, eventually leaving MS with a $900 million loss
  22. A minefield as usual then.
  23. Technically this is true under the new framework but in reality most ofsted inspectors are not qualified to actually inspect schools and seem to award points arbitrarily based upon some sort of political judgement. As usual they never came near our IT dept when we last saw them.
  24. So what has gone up then?
  25. LMAO. I hope they block her website and she gets sued for stupidity.
