  1. We've had a couple with water damage (not samsung). We've been able to salvage them *if* they've not been turned on, otherwise the boards need to be binned. If you have enough of them the damaged boards can be replaced with machines that get damaged screens so my advice would be just to hang onto the parts unless you are able to get one with a broken screen for a reasonable price on ebay.

  3. Some Education sites base their content on Amazon, so it is often up there.
  4. Those figures roughly mirror our own top domain hits. A lot to Amazon too.
  5. Google Apps for Education here too. Saves us thousands in storage.
  6. I can't help but agree. The problem is (with Edugeek) as soon as someone mentions Cloud/BYOD the world starts caving in with "think of the Children" and "What if X happens?"
  7. It's sponsored, but it isn't a support forum. If you really need help with specific kit then you can't beat vendors own forums. The Meru forum is particularly good.
  8. Why not though? It's pretty easy to do. I can understand if it's an old fashioned network where you have to setup a separate MDM, mess around with calendars and email servers but with GAFE you are halfway there.
  9. It is tempting sometimes.
  10. No, everything goes through a transparent proxy. The can do what they like as long as the filter allows it. I'm pretty sure you can enforce it so they can't access work email without enrolment, so you can remote wipe them if you need to. Try here: https://support.google.com/a/answer/1753793?hl=en
  11. We have all staff and student BYOD allowed access to their email, calendars documents for the last 5yrs. The only real "issue" is providing documentation for so many different types of device.
  12. There is a mobile device MDM built into GAFE.
  13. some really old system images too: drwxr-xr-x 8 root root 1024 Sep 1 2012 meru-5.3-41 drwxr-xr-x 8 root root 1024 Jan 15 2013 meru-5.3-50
  14. "Note, this experience is not available on Google Apps for Work, Education or Government accounts" Nooooooo
  15. 1500 devices, 1700 students (almost 1:1 chromebooks). All our documents in the cloud and we have 300Mb/s leased line and use 115Mb/s at peak and average 60-80mb/s
  16. There is a new update to this plugin that advertises "New per-machine based enterprise installer for internal software distribution " I don't use this because our MSOffice footprint is so small now that I don't need it, so I'm not really sure of the advantages. For the article: Google Apps update alerts: Updated version (v1.1.132.0) of the Google Drive plug-in for Microsoft Office https://support.google.com/a/answer/6165960
  17. For anyone who does capacity planning, Neilsens law is essential reading: Nielsen's Law of Internet Bandwidth

  20. We have it working in conjunction with Papercut. I don't recall the setup being particularly different than suggested above: port 5222 to the servers listed.
  21. If you need this level of security, so that only authorised devices can connect, you would need to setup SSO and only allow connection from IP's approved, ideally through your VPN.
  22. The Documents held on Google Drive are already encrypted, and they are encrypted in transit. Drive is certified to ISO 27001 and security audits It sounds like it already meets your requirements.
  23. A google form works pretty well, exports as excel/csv
  24. Really! We bought some refirb units around then but didn't know that they were selling them new!
