  1. No one memed this thread yet?! I've had more than a few drives over the years suddenly not want to play anymore. Currently workign on a freinds dads all-in-one PC that is refusing to play. Lots of bad sectors and now planning this as a life saving operation before it too finally dies and takes all his stuff with it.
  2. I hope there are no "sharks" in the water off the beaches!
  3. WinAmp, because those Napster downloads had to be played on something. In all seriousness though, WinAmp was the boss back in the day. Woud be nice to see it ported to mobiles, that could be a good move for it if a dev community can sort it out.
  4. I know NOW! TBH, I wasn't expecting as much green waste as was generated.
  5. It is surprising just how much garden waste can be generated by even the most simple of tasks. When I first moved into my new house in 2017 the previous occupants (who I quietly refer to as 'The Clampetts') had not cut the hedge in a very long time, so much so that it covered a large portion of my front window as you can see in the first pic. One afternoon, and the loan of a very good hedge trimmer later, and I'd reduced it to a huge pile of privet that took about 3 runs to the recycling centre to get rid of. Thankfully, it's only 5 mins away for me!
  6. In the top right pic, it looks as if HP had packed the keyring!
  7. Wow! Is that house inside Jumanji?! I'd say that, given the grounds, then £1600 is about right if it covers disposal, certs etc. It looks to be a big job. Are they going to rotavate the garden\flower beds too? as it may be best, given the state of the grounds. Oh, and as someone else already said, don't get rid of the tree unless it's a danger. By all means cut it back if required, but having a nice nature haven like a tree is something you'd miss I think.
  8. @LeMarchand would it be possible to see a pic of the garden, just so we can get an idea of how bad it is?
  9. Wow, that is a good innings, she was a staple of TV when I was a kid!
  10. Finally got around to watching Shogun and now kicking myself for not doing this earlier. It's totally immersed me in its world and the attention to detail is fantastic.
  11. In case you all missed it, the registration for next weeks webinars is now live - /s/edugeek/732-may-2024-edugeek-webinars-sophos-specops.html I've seen the Sophos slide deck, and it's going to be very informative indeed!
  12. 13. @JATSO They are amazing pics! I'm gutted I missed the show on Friday night, still never really seen them, but I'll play the waiting game!
  14. It would be interesting to find out how many attacks are carried out via another schools spoofed email address. I'd also like to know if it's teacher accounts being the primary source of the attack via email links\attachments etc. or pupils. It could also be down to statistics I suppose. Given the amount of email accounts a school has, they probably beat most companies\organisations hands down it terms of attack vector reach.
  15. We have some webinars coming up (details Monday) and have Sophos giving a session on ransomware in education + AV best practice. It is a growth industry for cyber-criminals sadly.
  16. This came up on my YouTube feed yesterday and was a real blast from the past. This was my normal on occasion, and seems so bizarre to see this as something we took for granted 35 years back down the line.
  17. I do have to ask if there are any GDPR ramifications by using a third party system where certain topics may be of a sensitive nature. It should be OK with Microsoft and Google if you are using them as part of your school's current setup in regard to this, but would you have to be wary of how they are handling\processing the information?
  18. I've been looking around to see who was in charge of hosting the data, whether it was the NHS itself or a commercial third party, but no joy yet, all the press reports seems to be just covering the basics.
  19. IIRC, the hack had been public knowlege for some time, but the release of the data is new - https://ukdefencejournal.org.uk/huge-volume-of-nhs-patient-and-staff-data-released-by-hacker/
  20. I had a great day out yesterday, not exactly intending to see very much I went out with a friend to Gait Barrows near Silverdale and Foulshaw Moss to see what was out. Gait Barrows is home to two very rare species, the Duke of Burgundy butterfly and Ladies Slipper orchids. It's really too early for both, but we did see one of the first emerging Duke of Burgundy's and very close up. Chuffed to bits! Apologies for the image quality, they are very small and we only had phone cameras + the area they live is beyoned a rope fence, so you can only get so close. We then went to Foulshaw Moss (about 15 mins away) to see the Ospreys and other birdlife. When we got to one of the viewing areas (an elevated one, but not with the best view of the nest) we were told that the female had gone off some time ago and the male was left with the youngsters. A few mins later she flew past, no more than 30 meters away carrying a fish. Sadly no pics as we were all awestruck at seeing one so close up. So I took some pics of the Common Lizards that abound there. All in all, for an afternoon where we were just after a walk and not expecting to see anything, it was a rather good day!

  22. **BUMP** I'll just bump this thread so some of you don't miss it before you go home!
  23. It's appearing for me, I'll ping @ZeroHour to see if he has any advice.
  24. This is a good idea from a govt for once - https://www.theregister.com/2024/04/29/uk_lays_password_legislation/?td=rt-3a TLDR: Default device passwords will have to meet complexity criteria. Broadband wireless router providers stand fast.
