  3. Thanks guys - I will play some more- currently running it at home on a Centos 7 VM - really impressed. I dont think it willwork so with apps as they use there own dns but its pretty dam good this.
  4. Really impressed with this. Breeze to setup on Centos7 box. A strong tool to have in the box for filtering ads and malware and flexible enough to add your own. Great for home and small sites because its free! Stephen
  5. Hi Rick :-) I just discovered latest ver of CC Cleaner has this feature under tools. Might be worth a shot. Never used it though !! Good luck.
  6. Can you get into safemode and disable disk caching? I had this issue with a BSoD? Disable disk caching fixed it. If its not booting at all can you restore from a system partition? It could be a rogue app maybe? Good luck. Stephen

  10. Thanks for your reply. That sounds positive.
  11. Hi we are considering ZiLink as a tool to integrate the SIMS DB with our moodle. It seems sensible to use something like this as Linking the right Parent to the right kid and allowing the parent to log into the moodle and view the work of the kid online HAS TO BE DONE RIGHT! It is the schools intention to upload the reports into the pupils area so the parents can see this on-line. So my question: Does anyone have experience with ZiLink or similar and care to share any pitfalls or gotchas? Thanks Stephen
  12. Thanks guys. What are your thoughts on Ranger - I used it a few years ago now is it a RM CC? clone now? Skeep looks interesting :-) Stephen
  13. Hi what are people using for network management and simplification of administering large networks. I have seen info on Kace and used thing like Ranger and RM in the past but I am a little out of date with these sort of solutions. What do people think? Stephen
  14. Hi all. I would to run a script on my domain controller at just before lunch that we inform / remind the teacher to turn off the projectors. The trick is I want to use net send to an OU (just the teachers only) Plenty of googling has given me some scripts to do this - but I cant get them working. Has any one done this before? Thanks Stephen
  15. I am not really looking for the usual user management features that exist in some / many pieces of software that tap into MS AD. What I want to do is be able to produce reports detailing the user account information, namely username and password. In the past I have used an excel file and merged it to word to produce a little wallet sized card with all the appropriate network and email account information on it. The teachers have found this very useful as I can quickly produce a class set and when thirty kids walk in the ICT we can get them logged in as quick as possible. I kept on top of for a couple of schools (only visiting 1 day a week) and worked well when you used this as the central account db and just exported to the various system for instance, AD and bgfl email and some school software applications. Now I am looking for something that will query AD and produce the same soft of reports (8 wallet sized network accounts) and something that will be as flexible as excel / mail merge and allow me to add other bits of info!! Has anyone used anything like this before? Thanks in advance - not long now!!
  16. HP and Elonox and unbranded intel servers. You can also monitor some printers. In theory it should work with any windows box as you have install a client. I must admit I did use open manage and you can set that up for email notifications not sure about sms though. I have not yet set Nagios up with Linux box yet but is very possible. I think you an also get a flasher gui web interface than that provided byt the Nagios install but i am not sure what it is. S
  17. I've had Nagios running on an old laptop supporting all but sms text messages. Free and relatively simple to setup. Just follow the howto's i was running ubuntu 7.10. Hope this helps.
  18. Sounds normal for Windows! Do all the checks on the server but it is probably the xp clients. You could also try pagefile defrag on the server and win xp. Use the sysinternals tool. Other stuff you could try is netdiag and dsdiag (i think). Also check the order of the services provided by your network card - network connections and advanced tab. Good luck. S
  19. Yes. An excellent day. Well organised. Please keep up the good work.
  20. OK. Thanks for you help guys. I am going down the externallly hosted site route. Stephen
  21. Hello, just about finished my moodle site - god what a lot of effort for just a basic site!! This is how I want it to work. The site will be hosted externally and will connect via ldap and public ip address to a school server running win 2003 std server. The question is has anyone got this working? The hosted moodle site will be running on a lamp server. The school in questions has council owned firewalls and a change request will be required to get through the fire wall. I will have discover what port ldap runs on and also fully understand the moodle doc LDAP authentication - MoodleDocs which only really deals with a LAMP server on the same network. Any comments or advice will be very much appreciated. Many thanks Stephen
  22. God bring back ICTTechnician.com! Bye for now
  23. Well I am sorry Mr Forum precious. I have posted on many forums before now but never has anyone questioned my ability to do my job as mr limbo was basically refering to. I have the right to reply.
  24. Hello forum and people. The answer is......... I dont know. I would consider some contract work but I am also considering setting up on my own. I put a post on here with a view to see if any schools contacted me re my services. So it basically an opportunistic post! Sorry If have broken the rules forum masters. I dont think all of this is enough reason to go slagging off XMA you twXXT. I have personal reasons for doing this and I would like to think people respect that. What I do with my life is my business and if XMA know then do think I care. Thank you for the other constructive comments. Stephen
