My friend bought an MG a few years ago from new, he thought the 1.4 would be a good idea, since tax is cheaper, and insurance. 3 years on he regrets it, he has no over taking power when on the motorway, when 4 people are in around town its sluggish. I've never had anything less than a 1.9, but 1.4 does sound scary.

RM - Windows Live Messenger & Web Messenger
Quackers replied to WithoutMotive's topic in General Chat
Put the location its trying to connect to as a permit rule in the RM Safetynet managment webpage , and it will over ride the RM Porn Filter etc. For example a teacher wanted somthing of youtube for a class, which RM Pornography normally filters, so instead of turning the porn filter off, i just put *.youtube.com as a permit rule and it lets it through. -
If we had that kind of way of thinking we'd still be stuck with the Windows 3.0 interface

You get what you pay for, and i can only ever recommend Zen. There is no "unlimited" with any providor, as they all have fair usage limits hidden somewhere, and the odd few that do not are normally very poor in support or have rubbish speeds. With Zen they are upfront and say this is how much for X. You can see how much you have used realtime on the customer portal. Yeah it might be £25 for 20gig usage, but that is down data only, they do not charge up upstream data. You can have 8 static IP's , more if you can justifty it. If you want a real unlimited with Zen its £80 a month. You want decent internet you gotta pay.

Have to agree the Travelmates are so easy to change keyboards on, we have many different model travelmates from the last 7 years, its just undo the screws that hold the panel below the tft (the section where the power button and other quick launch buttons are), flip that panel up and keyboard just lifts up

Thats the way i do it, unless its somthing major like blaster. Sometimes i really hate doing it, as SP1 for XP made XP error when deleting files of network drives, had to get a hotfix of MS for that, SP2 caused the Applying your personal settings to hang for about 20 seconds, took months for MS to do somthing about that, so another hotfix to apply.

Found a pile of old RM Nimbus 386's from early 90's hiding at the back of a maths store room a few months back, they had gone yellow and smelled.

We use ISA Server 2000, and find it good. Been using it for 3 years. We have played with Linux proxy's, but found they all seem to want an Indent client installing on every machine if you want to use authentication, with ISA Server its all integrated. The LEA gave us an RM Smartcache 2, gave it em back after 6 months, what a pile of poo that was.

With an Aopen case? Microsoft Branded keyboards and Mice? and Kingston branded RAM? We just buy extra boards instead of paying X ££ per machine extra for a 3 year warranty, works for us. Can always get hard disks and power supplys. -

No licences we get them from our select agreement. We get the PC's from Component Solutions, you will normally find them advertising in Micromart, they supplied the PC's that monitor the fridges/freezers in morrisons, so they do big deals. http://www.compsol.co.uk . -

We have just paid £315 a system for Intel Core2Duo 1.8Ghz 160GB Hard Disk 1Gig RAM (Kingston) DDR2 Aopen small form factor case with front USB & Audio 17" TFT Microsoft Optical Mouse & Keyboard Gigabyte Motherboard with onboard Graphics (Intel Extream), Network & Sound. 1 Year warrenty on systems. 3 Year warrenty on TFT. Considering the P4 3Ghz chip can be bought for £35 now, and a Core2Duo is like £80 your quote to me seems quite high for that chip. -
I work at the school which is 200 meters away from where these people live. Its full of police and tv crew.

We originally had roaming profiles, but the ICT teachers hated the way the kids could move things around , and it confused them when my computer was not in the default place on the desktop, so they requested they had fixed desktops, so roaming profiles were removed.

Has anybody here ever moved from Apache to IIS with moodle? We have had moodle for about 9 months on a Windows 2003 Server box using Apache. I have somthing that is ASP based that i want to put on the same box, but apache apparently out of the box does not support asp. I've seen some addon's but i do not want to mess too much. Now is there a simple way for me to move from apache to IIS with very little downtime for moodle?

I still use both. Infact i cannot make do with just 1 anymore, due to a few issues. I would get to grips with RIS first , then use WDS along side it.

1. The junior ICT tech makes sure the laptops are delivered to classes. 2. Our trollys will do 4 lessons in a row before needing to be charged. 3. The junior ICT tech makes sure they are all on charge and deals with the booking of them too.

Windows Vista on 2000 Network
Quackers replied to Netwacky87's topic in Network and Classroom Management
No, but if you do have a volume licence edition of Windows XP and a key for it yes? As i cannot see how any school can survive without one. -

Why not just install Windows XP on them? I'm sure you allowed to run the previous version under the licence. Like we cannot buy Office 2003 licences anymore, so we buy Office 2007 ones and run Office 2003 under this licence. -
We just ordered another 32 Acer laptops today for our 4th laptop trolly. Other 3 have Acer's in them too. In the space of a year out of the 84 laptops for the laptop trollys we have had 1 dead board (sent off, repaired and returned within 1 week) 4 keys pulled off seperate laptops, but they are easy to fix, so we did those our selfs. Out of the staff laptops who also have acer, 1 dead inverter and 1 dead on arrival. Everytime we have phoned, been no longer than 5 mins in a que and they have sorted the problem, which is why we picked them again.

been waiting for a newer version of this for ages, currently run it and would not live without it anymore.

From what I understand I don't think you can do this with RIS, you'd need to assign all your programs using MSIs in GP. Could be wrong though as I use Ghost/RIS. You can do that with RIS and WDS. You get the PC as you want it, then run ripprep from the \i386\admin\ folder on the RIS Server's REMISNT share.
