  1. We use Apple TV's, you can turn on Security so when a device connects its asks for the 4 digit PIN it puts on screen, then nobody else can connect until that user disconnects. The code randomly changes every so often.
  2. Has anybody installed the newer version of Profile Manager / Server? We are still on 3.1.2 just curious if there are any new settings in Profile Manager that are useful. Held off upgrading as i read reports of a bug in the script that upgrades the DB during the upgrade process to 3.2.2 and then Profile Manager breaks.
  3. We just got a decent heat gun from B & Q and do it ourselves with the replacement kits for under £20.
  4. Just allocated 3 students Office 365 licences, reset their passwords on our onsite domain controller, i can see in the logs the changes got updated to Office 365, student then goes to login to Office 365 and it just won't let them, says unrecognised ID. When i click domains in the Office 365 centre it says 'Possible Service Issues'. Is Office 365 just broken AGAIN or am i doing something wrong? does anybody else have that when they look at their domain in the admin centre? Really not impressed with Office 365 at all, feels like almost everyday i login there are service issues, had to call them last week because OneNote for Mac won't activate anymore with any new people i allocated licences too, they are aware of the issue now and i just have to wait for a fix.
  5. I think the charge is £1.10p per student per year for insight . Just go for PARS , doubt you will find anyone who has anything bad to say about their products or service. They are well made , easy to install, easy to upgrade and support is the best of any company I've had dealings with software wise. We have been using PARS for almost 10 years now since the days of PARSql (before PARS.net) and they have always been consistent and cannot recommend TASC Software enough.
  6. We can dream. Would love this.
  7. How the hell do i buy it without a Facebook account from their website?!
  8. Be interesting if you could post back in a few months to see if you actually prefer it. I have a few friends who work in the 'Real World' with IT Support jobs and they envy me because i get to play with so many different things. One is a Cisco engineer and he does Cisco routers, and Cisco Switches, thats it and hates that he cannot work on the Servers or the Clients it is purely the network infrastructure. Another is an Exchange admin for a big company but dislikes he is not allowed to do anything else, need something changing in AD the AD team has to deal with that. Where as us in Education IT normally have they keys to every device and system and get to be knowledgeable in many different areas.
  9. I switched from Evernote to Onenote this year once Microsoft released the Mac Client, i much prefer the layout i love the coloured tabs.
  10. Do you have something like securus for monitoring , maybe use that for policing activity or make your proxy public facing and force all traffic through it? We had a student requiring a laptop for home, ended up the Mother using it for looking at holidays, and the child using it for looking at porn and it came back covered in stains , i kid you not!
  11. Apple in its last quarter sold 5.5 Million Macs thats more than in any quarter EVER before (same quarter the year before was 4.5 Million, so 1 million Macs up). The Mac has been gaining market share slowly over the last few years. In a world of over 1.5 Billion PC's it takes a lot to move just 1%. If you look at gstatcounter, the Mac has over 9% Desktop OS market share now. So yeah, its not a joke the Mac is sky rocketing in sales. Everyone i know who has recently bought a new laptop/desktop computer has not bought one running Windows. They have got a Mac.
  12. Its not that the PC is dying, just the reasons for needing one are becoming less. Already got one non teaching member of staff fully iPad now. Uploaded all his Word, Excel files to OneDrive and he just lives on that, uses OneNote in meetings, can print from it, get on the web, email, he loves it. Yet 12 months ago he had an Acer Windows laptop and that was it.
  13. This only happens if using Ethernet cable on the Apple TV. WiFi it still works as expected. I just turned Standby off on all our Apple TVs as the fix. New Apple TV Firmware went beta yesterday so if you have a developer account you could download that and see if that has a fix for this issue in it.

      • Thanks
  15. People honestly could not tell he was gay? I thought everyone had known for years.
  16. Just interested to see what other people think their must have software is that they use all the time? For me it has to be Microsoft OneNote its got to be one of their best products. I did originally use Evernote because there was not Mac client but once they released OneNote for Mac i jumped, and now it have it on my Mac, iPad, iPhone, Desktop Mac, it has enabled me to go almost paperless both in work and personal i love it and would not want to be without it now. Got a few teachers using it at work now and its all they talk about they love their iPads just for One Note.
  17. Unless the LEA will allow the traffic through their firewall it won't work. Works for us as we control the firewall too so i can let the AP's on other sites talk to the Zone Director on our main site. I think you will end up going down a separate zone director route by the looks of it.
  18. Thats what we do, as they are not on the same subnet you will need to telnet to the AP's first and do the command SET DIRECTOR IP 192.168.x.x or what ever your ruckus controller IP is. We do however have private site to site ethernet links, so it also depends how the sites will be physically linked.
  19. Ive got 2 sites to move from Windows Server 2008, SQL 2008 to Server 2012 R2, so may as well go SQL 2014. Just me being cynical here, but when i first started in 2003 we had SQL Server 2000, we then went to SQL 2005, then to SQL Server 2008, then to SQL Server 2012, and now SQL 2014. We do more or less the same thing as we did 11 years ago, we put student details into the SIMS Database. I don't see it any faster on SQL 2012 than on SQL 2000. So why exactly are we chucking ££££££ at Microsoft year after year on SQL Licences to do what we already do. I know its not going to happen but wish they would go down the MySQL route so schools are not being stung with SQL licence costs, especially primary schools.
  20. Have you tried iOS 8.1 which came out Monday? It may have fixed your issues.
  21. Try deleting the .DS_Store file within that folder, its hidden but keeps all the settings for how to display that folder.
  22. Have you tried putting it in Icon mode, changing the view options (right click show view options) and setting it as the defaults, it looks like the icons are just off screen and need a tidy up. I normally get those Clean Up options when i have something off screen.
  23. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I8JhMBJaCb8 has a demo video of it, got it running on our Office 365 share point site. Looks really good.
  24. I would continue to work, maybe thats a sign i enjoy what i do, but work would have to become a little more flexible with my hours.
  25. Time to part with £125 then , thanks for the replies.
