  1. If you select MENU can you get any white on the text if you can then i agree with above, is it out of its 3 year cover? Marc Projector Engineer
  2. Epson now for education have a 5 year warrenty and on site too, i can not recomend them highly enough never had a problem and i have fitted hundreds, i can honestly say out of all the makes i get to repair i see less broken Epsons than any other make and in my area there are thousands in schools. Next best come Hitachi and NEC, but please NEVER fit a DLP (of any make) machine in a school they are not up to it. Marc Projector Engineer
  3. Epson EB-455Wi Interactive WXGA Projector up to 97" display is £1100ish, Replacement lamp £120ish That's 3 classrooms for the price of one Could not agree more even the Optoma interactive at around £750 up to 110" , problem is i think people think LCD or LED interactive screen last a long time but they have a half life of around 6 to 7 thousand hrs so they fade with age just like a projector, i do agree they do not need the small bit of maintainence that projectors need but at the cost of the screen it can not be justified to move to screens just yet, if you take the costing of an interactive projector over 7 to 10 years say 3 deep cleans and 2 lamps cost would be around 450 plus buying cost say 1100 = 1550 still less than half the price of a small screen. i do find schools are now moving to larger screen most here are moving to 89" with ultra close focus so no possability of any shadowing at all. As i have said before i am not against the screens it is just they are not as yet able to compete with projectors and in my opinion it would be money poorly spent, and i know around here the school governers would be asking questions of what the head was thinking spending money on what in my mind is a step back in technology. Marc Projector Engineer
  4. Interactive screen do not compare they are way over priced you can get a fantastic interactive projector installed for £1200 lets say 100" what price would an equivilent touch screen cost???? And most lamps now carry 5 years cover and at £130 for a lamp i dont think screen have a chance. Marc Projector Engineer
  5. Im an Epson approved repair center but i am inclined to agree with TechSupp for an S4 is a little dated now a new one would give you 5 year on site cover Marc Projector Engineer
  6. If you tell them your Education you should get a better warranty most do 5 years now, but your other Optoma units are DLP NEVER buy a DLP unit for a school they are not up to it on any make DLP are NOT reliable at all. Marc Projector Engineer
  7. Oh forgot to say i am an Optoma partner so i may be able to help. Marc Projector Engineer
  8. Let me have all the details i will see what i can do for you. I need who you bought it from your serial number model and your full school address and phone PM me them rather than on here. Oh and full description of fault, are there any lights etc at all??? Marc Projector Engineer
  9. If you need to ask how then i recomend you dont do it i spent a long time at Sanyo learning this trade, there are capacitors in there that stay charged for a long time after disconection and have several hundred volts on them, there are also static sensitive devices that even nylon socks would kill if touched by your finger unless you are very competent and electronicly aware then i would recomend you NOT to go inside, if you still decide to go ahead wear a static wriststrap and work on a rubber mat for both you and the projector bench (industry norm) and be very careful as told above not to touch any of the front silvred mirrors and take care NOT to move the polerising filters or you will lose true black. Marc Projector Engineer
  10. I dont understand your wording? Colour guarantee? our 5 year cover is for any fault on the projector so under ours it would be covred but if your saying your cover is listing certain faults only i would be unsure, but i must say it sounds a strange cover??? Marc Printer Engineer
  11. 4" reinforced glass ?????? that would be at normal glass weight around half a ton in glass alone? reinforced glass would be heavier, do you really mean 4" i dont think in practice they will ever be as strong as a IWB Especially a clever board as they are enamaled steel, stronger than a smart board yes (but so is brown paper) and i dont think stronger than a promethiean either i have seen many of then with quite large dints and still work ( no not smart board). Marc Projector Engineer
  12. No you should never attempt to move them yourselves unless its part of your job to do so. I have seen several moved by untrained people, i even saw a full cage and pole mounted on a ceiling tile not even with a batton on the back just a small bit of wood sandwiching the tile !!! And with screws in to just a plaster ceiling !! If it wont support my weight as well as the projector its not safe enough, yes they are not supposed to, but in time one of the little darilngs will swing from it. Marc projector Engineer
  13. No i dont think it would be cost effective to repair.....sorry Marc Projector Engineer
  14. Is it a Unifi projector? i assume it is, (read my other posts about Unifi) you can assume it is beyond cost effective repair, new unit price is around £1300, (DLP again bless them). Marc Projector Engineer
  15. 3mtr is the Older standard for projectors to a 79" screen most are now 2mtr or closer, closer does not mean better quality there will still be the same number of pixels visible on the screen but they will be smaller so may apear sharper, the main benefit of closer is reduced shadowing from the teacher. Moving a projector closer is often required but not often a problem as cables come from the board so only made shorter and most brackets are easly moved forward (check your asbestos book first). Marc Projector Engineer
  16. Also as an installer and repairer (City & Guilds qualified electronics engineer) specialising in Projector repair for over 12 years even though we sell Casio i can not recomend them over some of the other makes as cost for cost with new cheaper lamps (just over £100) and new 3 to 5 year cover on lamps there are no savings to be had, and the lower quality of the image (side by side comparesen) and reliability still leads me to recomend others over Casio, dont get me wrong casio are doing a great job its all progress in the right direction and i am sure LED laser will get there soon but its not quite there yet, ALL projectors still have to be serviced if they have filters or not makes no differance to the need for deep clean but it does save the IT person having to clean the filters. So at the moment i must on the grounds of what i have seen in the repair shop and on site still (unfortunatly) recomend other units over Casio As i have mentioned in other posts the new (not yet on sale) laser projectors will be streets ahead of what is currently available in quality and logevity and cost. Marc Projector Engineer
  17. It is an unusual problem to get white spots it may be a control board problem, is it the same from the other input? Marc Projector Engineer
  18. I would recomend the Epson x11 less than around half price of Casio and 5 year cover on it and 5 year lamp (Typical lamp cost £120) Higher res than the casio and NO green tint. Marc Engineer
  19. Hi , its NOT the trip, if it turns on at all it can not be the trip, with the trip you would get nothing no power no lights NOTHING. It sounds like you have a faulty ballast with over running your lamp. Marc Projector Engineer
  20. Glued Optoma????? never...............Nailed maybe but glued never. Probably masonary nails too. If you check the back panel near to the VGA there is aften a screw and it holds a slide plate that prevents the top coming off and some times a center screw from under the case, and i have even seen them inside the lamp housing. Out of interest why are removing the cover? Marc Projector Engineer
  21. I think most projectors are now around 50,000 hrs and tghe life of the LCD seems odd i think they mean the back light life as screen are normally rated as half life meaning how long till its only half as bright, brightness on a screen is constantly reducing so half life is important but often not mentioned half life on a typical laptop screen is around 5 years normal use so around 4,000 hrs i would expect these large screens to be better. Yes if they are readable from the back of the class they are a good tool no shadowing etc. But i like to see them in action first i rember Casio saying our projectors have 20,000 life they have now halved that. We are currently fitting 89" boardsas boards are getting bigger and cheaper but i think screens will be a while catching up to price and size, but hey its all in the right direction. Marc Projector Engineer
  22. The XU301's i have seen some that the sensor for temp falls from its normal position when mounted feet up and often goes undiagnosed when looking at it on a bench as it is then in its normal position as its back in its correct position, i have seen around 5 like this. And yes "some" lamp cover is not as good as others always check lamp price and cover before buying. Marc Projector Engineer
  23. I see your point but unfortunatly i have had several of the casio in to clean so filterless does not mean that the dust does not get in it just means the man on site has no filter to remeber to clean. Some projectors are better than others at keeping dust out but generaly higher end units and most definatly not the casio, i praise casio for inventivness but its not right yet there are many things on them i would change. As for lamp price most educational cover now means you can forget the lamp for a number of years and lamp cost now being around £100 for an Epson lamp means it is now not the problem it once was. As i said before the laser lit units will save most of the problems of doing away with lenses and need for reguler cleaning. Marc Projector Engineer
  24. As i said in another post i saw a wonderful demo of one of these units with guy tapping the screen saying how strong it was and resistant to knocks,....yes you guessed it ,...it cracked !!! They are OK but, till the price equels the less than £2000 same as projectors and boards i dont see the point, also what is the half life on the screen? But if your in a class can you read normal text on the screen as you can on a whiteboard (the answer is no) so their use is limited in a classroom till they get bigger in size and also lower in price. Marc Projector Engineer
  25. Do you mean does any maker make a projector with such a device? i have never heard of one, but that is not the problems a slightly blocked filter works better than a clean one it stops more dust getting in but the down side is it reduces cooling, the dust that causes the problem is in the optical engine NOT on the filters, the answer is deep clean. And yes some projectors in low dust enviroments will survive when not cleaned but many will not (trust me i see them for repair) dust in classrooms is strange as many classrooms have really bad dust problems needing projectors cleaned every 6 months but some as you describe last for years and dont seem to have the same problem. I have had many people say to me i will get an LED projector next time............makes no differance as they have the same problem, dust never asks what the bulb is before it gets inside.
