As the OP I can confirm that Grumbledook is correct I only want to know what data you allow the teachers to see i.e address etc, I have a split network and require no advice on the pro's and cons of split networks. Hope that helps :)/

They want us to open up sims in the classroom so teachers can enter registers into sims in class. Now what data as a school do you allow teachers access to, do you allow all teachers to view name address' and contact phone numbers?

We have a big problem here with Mobile hpones in exams, we did buy a couple of Cellphone Detector Plus' but they do not pinpoint mobiles , only detect them in an area and are very random at best. What do you do, if anything to detect mobiles for exams? I am now considering metal detector wands as we had 2 phones found in a mock today.

Our old Head of IT who was also an AST was being paid 42k a year and was getting 19% A-C every year, he was that good at his job that he missed entire sections out of the scheme of work to do with Input/Ouput. He retired the other year and was replaced with guy from industry who is not even a qualified teacher and in the first year the result went up 80%. So much for being a qualified teacher to teach kids. I find the difference to be this: I could do their job (teachers) standing on my head. They could not do my job for 10 mins. Thats fact.

In my experience the longer a teacher is in teaching the more lazy they become. I nor any of my staff will be used to do the job which teachers get vastly overpaid for while they sit on their arses and drink coffee.....period.

The camera station software to record the video is license based, We had a 10 camera license that has now been expanded by another 5 to 15 cameras. We put them all in ourselves including the external ones. Works great. We run it on standard XP machine although we have just upgraded the hardware and drives due to expansion. Just order the camera station license and stick it on an xp machine with a decent hdd and bob's your uncle, or aunt if they are into that sort of thing.

You are missing the point MrHappy, the Doc_1 as blackcat put it has no work in it or very little as the kid is using it to mask the games playing. Kid plays game Teacher walks towards pupil Kid switches to the word doc Teacher walks past Kid goes back to playing games. The doc file is there because the kids has no intention of doing any work, and this set of events is the same in all schools across the UK (apart from private schools)

Lanschool is there FOR the teachers to use you have to be an idiot not to be able to use it, in which case you should not be a teacher anyway. Spector is recording software and is not used by teachers and is used by me and my team.

We use Lanschool for classroom management and Spector to monitor and teachers still have no clue what goes on in the classroom, and any teacher who says they do is just a plain liar. With monitoring software someone has to actually monitor it and teachers do not do that.

So what is to stop them playing games then? In an ideal world teachers would not be useless, it's not an ideal world though.

I don't undestand that, surely banning completely impacts teaching and learning more than just removing internet. The reason we introduced the removal of internet for more mundane breaches was so that the pupils could still work in the ict rooms and access network resources and intranet resources. This enables them to continue to work and lessens the impact of the ban.

I take away pupils internet access all the time, if they are not on task and we see they are not on task we just remove it, simple as that. For serious offences like attempted hacking, bypassing proxies or using another users password to get on the internet while banned, they get their account removed for a week. Playing games not staying on task - Removal of Internet for a week. Serious matters - Removal of pc access for 1 week + Internet and PC useage in our school is a priviledge and not a right.
