Maybe it's a fudge to get Windows apps like Sims on the Mac, create a sims app on a windows RDS accessed through Safari although you could do that without having to go outside the network.?

This is the exact reason why I never recommend Macs, overpriced Tat that has a really poor TCO. A lot of teachers only think about shiny shiny and not the practicalities. Our Music Head of Department wanted Macs and when I aksed her why she wanted Macs she didn't really know but her DJ friend recommended them as you can only really do music on a Mac, together with the Head we shut that little waste of expenditure down.

It's not a fear, its feedback from both staff and pupils, we have a habit of listening to that.

Tell that to the kid at the back of the classroom who can't read the text on the screen, fidelity is worthless if you can't read it from the back of the class.

We installed 12 TV's but the staff and Head didn't like them for size so we are no longer purchase them, we had a number of Casio projectors but have now moved to laser short throws for our new block. The TV's offer nothing that an 87" smartboard and laser projector doesn't offer at a fraction of the cost.

We use Edu version here, no reason just thought why not.

That's exactly what I am looking to set up here, I have 4 Dell R640s here just waiting to be set up as a 4 node cluster. We currently have a SAN but don't want to be tied into a vendor especially as the warranty has run out on our model of SAN.

I buy Desktops and laptops form ICT Direct and always get a 5 year warranty, I wouldn't extend past that as they are such good value that they are cheap enough to replace after the 5 years.

We are being mandated to take 4 days next week so we can have a complete close-down for a week, then it's back to the rota the week after.

Weren't you complaining in another thread about not feeling part of the team, I may have found the reason (see above) Seriously the risk is minimal, unless you have very serious underlying health issues I do not see any reason why people can not attend site, I am an insulin dependent diabetic and it doesn't phase me at all as I am effectively isolated, there is more risk to the teachers teaching the kids than to me.

Fair enough, I think there is a lot of wild hysteria going around though in regards to H&S and Corona.

Face masks do nothing so are pointless, gloves are only an extra barrier as long as you wash your hands you are fine and again, the risks are minimal for IT staff.

Same, I think people need to realize that the risk with gloves and proper hand washing in between jobs/contact is minimal and you are providing a valuable service to key workers as a key worker yourself.

We have also decided to bring a lot of work which was scheduled for the summer forward, make hay while the sun shines so to speak.

I am in on a rota with my Tech, 2 days on 2 days off on a rolling basis. The risk is minimal as there are no more than 15 staff on site so everyone is pretty isolated.
