No surprise there then. They seem to be concentrating on the consumer market and forgetting about the business side of things.

A very good question indeed! The only remake that kinda worked was Sanford and Son which was a remake of Steptoe and Son. The actor who played the son was a bit wooden though which spoilt it. How come the rest of the world can understand American sitcoms like Friends, Frasier and Seinfeld but they cant understand a sitcom about teenage life in a schooL??

lol - they're nice and shiny so people want them! What they can be used for is always an after thought. I currently work in the business world (soon to start in a School IT dept.) and depending on what lever you come in at you might get a car, laptop and BlackBerry phone. Doesn't matter if you really need any of those or will even use them, that's what you get if you're in a certain position. We must have dozens of Blackberry's and laptops that get left in the office over night - a complete waste of money that could have been spent better elsewhere, but they just don't listen!

Sometimes it can be easier to move up to a higher position by leaving your current employer and joining another one. My advice would be to be open and honest with your bosses and ask them what you need to do to fill that position. Detail everything you have done 'above and beyond' and explain that these are things that should be done by a more senior person. Tell them that you really enjoy working at the school and wish to remain there for many years to come but want some sort of career path. If they dont budge then just thank them for their time, accept their offer of the £1,000 pay-rise and more importantly accept the Senior Technician job title. After 6 months in that position start looking for another job and when you find the right ones to apply for be open and honest with your bosses and tell them you've found another Senior Technician job (it's easier to get a job elsewhere as a Senior Tech if you already are one - hence why I recommend you accept the new job title as that's worth more than the pay-rise they're offering). If they value you, they'll try their best to keep you (more money) or they'll give you a good reference so you can get better money elsewhere.

You'd be better off creating a Calendar in Public Folders and do it that way. It will mean someone manually copying it across this year, but ongoing they can make changes in realtime. You can set permissions on the Folder/Calendar and give most people Read Only access and the relevant people Read/Write access. Assuming you have Adobe Acrobat Reader on all/most of your computers you could always convert the Publisher file to a pdf file and put it on your Intranet?

I've got a HP MediaSmart server, I've had it for a few years now and it was pretty slow to start with but I got a second-hand CPU and now it's whizzy-fast!

Assuming 'Entire Company' is a Distribution group, as glennda says you can do this in AD by double-clicking the distibution group and changing the Message Restrictions so that only certain people can email it.

That's very unusual, you normally only get paid travel expenses if you have to travel whilst at work - i.e. from one campus to another. Be careful though as you normally only get paid 45p for a set amount of miles and then a lower rate after that. 120 miles round-trip is far too far for me, it would have to be one fantastic job with a very hefty pay packet for me to even contemplate travelling that far! I currently travel 44 miles round-trip but in a few weeks it will only be 16 as I've got a new role closer to home.

You can order as many of them as you like - just don't expect to get your hands on them for weeks to come though.

You used to be able to buy land-line phones that had a lock on them so you need a physical key before you can lift the receiver - that would stop it happening.

If it's not running as expected then download all the latest drivers you can and see if that makes a difference. What the person selling you most likely did was just install Windows XP SP3 and it happened to find a Windows driver that works so no missing drivers in Device Manager. As previously suggested, download and install the latest Chipset Drivers and Graphics Drivers for your machine and that may speed up your computer so it can play your Flash game OK. After those 2 drivers check Microsoft Updates out and see if that picks up any updates to your drivers.

Compaq and Toshiba made the first proper tablets and we purchased one of each, gave them to the IT Department and the ILT Co-ordinator to try out and keep if they found a use for them. Needless to say, after a month or so they came back to us as although they had fun playing games on them, they couldnt come up with any reason to use them in the College environment. They then sat on the shelf in our store room gathering dust.

Unless you have an exceptionally bright data projector then most likely you wont see a thing. To prove the point, take a projector out side at the brightest possible time and then take a few photos of it and get some staff out to take a look too.

In the past I've used SelectaMark for marking the equipment with the schools name and postcode and Seton stickers for asset tags - for the asset tags you have to think carefully where to put then so the 'little rascals' dont draw all over them or hack away at them with a pen and remove parts or all of the asset sticker.

Use SysPrep and an answer file. SysPrep wipes all the security identifiers from your computer so when you power a machine up you'll be asked for a computer name etc. and the answer file can be used to put in the product key and put it on your domain.
