The event log may be your friend here. May not though. Try looking through the application log just after it happens and see if there are any Internet Explorer related errors. It might tell you if the fault occurred in a dll or exe file. My first guess is corrupt javascript though.

My main server syncs to microsoft. This is default time server. All other computer are set to sync of server through group policy

One thing I did notice was that when I first click on the my computer icon it doesn't ask what version it just plonks me straight into the basic one. Have cleared cookies and this was a new install for 7.2 anyway. Has this selection been removed? Can I force it to silverlight as default instead?

Where would the site address be located in the config. I see school name and website address but not the HAP site address?

Silverlight works!! Still a no for html version on that. It's still trying to go to mycomputer/{Drive Letter}

I've got HAP running with the helpdesk and booking part working ok but I just can't get the computer browser bit working. here is a screenshot of the basic and silverlight interfaces. These problems are the same in all browsers. Silverlight is just not displaying anything apart from the my computer icon. The html version does display the mapped drive but tries to open a page called "mycomputer/F" which it can't find (i took the screenshot while hovered over so you can see what it's looking for. Have I missed something in the iis setup. This server already has eclipse.net library software on a different website which runs flawlessly in silverlight with auto log in as well (hence HAP on port 88) edit: try adding the images you said you had matt!!

Ok it seems you can stop users using their own sig but not specify what to use

Are you using exchange? Can be done with that I think and Google Apps for education has an option for it. Don't know off hand whether there is a gpo option. I'll have a trawl through and come back to you in 5

Just going through an install of this and had to have a little chuckle at the booking system admin page. I'm guessing that it should be Half Term and not Talf Term Can I correct these myself and if so which file can I edit to fix them.

I would guess it would have to be database access times. SQL requires a stupid amount of memory to run efficiently. We have 8 Gig in our sims server and we still get 10 secs to main screen

I looks a little like they are trying to combine looks from different platforms. The bar below the images is reminiscent of the ps3 iplayer app. This may be a good direction to go as more and more people start to get more and more varying smart devices. Keeping the look and feel the same between devices has to be a must for any national or international company.

This was going to be the ultimate product. Was hoping I could create something like DSL but with more up to date looking interface. Going through the book now and so far so good.

Has anyone ever tried this Welcome to Linux From Scratch! and if so how did it go. Thought I would have a try using a virtual machine as a host. Will this work or would it be better to have dedicated hardware for it?

When the deployment is finished try looking in the MININT folder of the computer and see if the log in there holds any clues. It sounds like it's either not connecting to the database or not finding the computer name in it.

Ours are set up with the root of the home folders shared with Everyone, Full Control. Then you can make sure the inheritance is off on the ntfs permissions for that folder only then set the permissions to SYSTEM (Full control), Administrators (Full Control) . When you add users the home folder path should then give full ntfs control to the user whose folder it is and prevents anyone else from viewing it apart from Administrators. We've gone one stage further and allowed staff, read only access to the student shares to enable them to check that work is being done / retrieve tasks from the students.

You also need to specify the trusted location. What you may have done (and I'm assuming here because you don't mention it in your post) is said 'Yes, I want you to trust documents on my network' but not told it where your network is. Should be some more settings in User\Admin Templates\MS Word 2010\Word Options\Security\Trust Center\Trusted Locations\Trusted Location 1 etc

The Microsoft approved way to do this is with the default profile as outlined here Customizing the Default User Profile in Windows 7 (Part 1) Mind you this is a bit of a faff really. I did ensure that office was pinned to the start menu and task bar this way but if you keep the start menu search active, students can learn to use the windows 7 start menu with the 'type in program name' functionality which even worked on a redirected start menu.

I'm giving away a toner that we found in a cupboard recently. Have emailed all Norfolk schools but no one seems to have this type. It is a black toner for a HP 5500 (Compatible not original). We don't have one of those printers here so just want shot of it. Don't remember ordering it and we've never been invoiced for it and there is no delivery note with it so can't contact company. If you want it pm me and we can sort out if you want it collected or if you want to send courier for it. No charge for toner, you just need to make the arrangements to collect it.
