Looking at the Peugeot 107/Citroen C1/Toyota Aygo as they are all the same car! Found a few on the net which I am going to have a look at. Anyone have any experience/opinions of these cars??? Trying to install FMS on a workstation. After running the FMSApplicationSetup.exe and connecting to the FMSConnect.ini file I can't access FMS, I just receive "Create user DSN failed". What does this mean and how can I fix it??

I have tried to stay clear of SIMS, as it is only used in the school office and finance department here. Now the head has decided that all teachers should have it on their computers. I have a couple of questions about SIMS: 1. Do we have to pay for it to go every where? The Bursar has said that we have an 8-user licence currently. 2. Can teachers access it at home (without remote access) as a few of the SIMS support articles mention "computers with local data" ?

I have a new Dell Vostro 410 with 2.4 GHz Core 2 Quad, 3 Gig RAM, 500 GB HDD, ATI Radeon HD 2400 Pro Graphics Card with a 19" TFT Screen! Took me almost 2 months to get the powers that be to buy it! I was using an Evesham Prestige Soho 2.4 GHz processor, 736 MB RAM, 40 GB HDD.

Nokia made a phone like that, it took forever to use, if that is a real product I don't think it will be a great success

Might not be what you looking for, but can I recommend online backup?? We are currently trialling software from Gigasoft. They will do loads of different packages for you!! They take all of your data away on a portable drive, then set your servers to backup, and they do an incremental backup whenever you like!! I can't!! I pay for a 2 meg line, but get between 1.7-1.9 which is good enough for me. I know someone who pays for a 16 meg with someone, but they only get 5, it really isn't worth paying for speed sometimes!! I see no reason to change my broadband the largest things that i download is songs/podcasts from iTunes. I don't care that it takes up to 1 minute for a podcast to download, I am not going to pay another £20 a month to get my songs in "less than a second". I would like 50 megs at school though!! I wonder when E2BN are going to offer this and how much they will charge???

When I arrived at my school it was in a similar set-up. If you have any money invest in a new server, it doesn't have to be powerful, but it means that your network will become adapted to your ideas, not the technology. If your computers are 256 MB get the RAM upgraded. Re-install them as well. Get rid of Ranger, you don't need it, we run on vanilla and it works fine! Group logons will be ok, just make sure that the home folders all have a named folder for each person in the class, we have also found that a "shared drive" for each year group works well, if a maths group from all different classes are doing work, they can save in their and all access it. Get your staff laptops connected as well, with their my documents re-directed, this means you have less work in the long run if laptops loose data or "disappear"! Also check the backup routine of the server, the one here was non-existent!

XP laptops do not have this problem, different users on the same laptop do not have this problem, the laptop is definately connected to the right access point, even when plugged in over a cable it takes 3 hours. We have a 2008 DC

We have had 11 Windows Vista Business laptops working here since September. They have all worked fine until now, about 5 of them take 3 hours to log on, and 3 to log off. Once in they work perfectly and the event logs do not show anything. If we switch the wireless card off and unplug the LAN they go in almost instantly. This isn't because of a large roaming profile - they are all a couple of MB in size. They are teacher laptops, so only 1 person logs on to them. What is going on? I have found re-installing works for a few days, but 3 of them started to do it again!!

We are overspending massive amounts on our printer consumables and have been asked to find a method to sort it. We think software like PaperCut is the right way to go, but don't know the best way to use it. If we give people credits we can't spilt our budget fairly, so we are thinking of getting rid of the Consumables budget and charging year groups for what they print. Just wondering how this system would work - does anyone else have this system, when do you ask for payment, what happens if people can't pay, etc... How many people use software like this, and how effective is it? What do you allocate if you use credits?

I like the idea. Lets say I had a problem on my network and I needed help with it, but it would involve giving up information on the network setup then you could post in the private forum and the trusted and verified techs can help and you can get a good nights sleep safe in the knowledge that no pupils/staff have got access to the information. I'm not sure how you could do the verification, but I think this idea has a lot of potential!

We have had exactly the same problem here, 1 teacher has a memory stick that they have been using fine for the last 6 months, then it has just become read only - but only on the top level, you can access and change anything inside the folders, but not those straight inside the memory stick. And yes, it is owned by a woman

We have Vericool School Reception here, but registers are taken on paper. The reception screen is mainly for staff/visitors and late pupils to sign in/out on. The administration side of vericool is all on the server (other end of the building) and only 1 other computer is linked to it. The person who uses this computer arrives at 9:30 and leaves at 2:30, what happens if a fire occurs during the other school hours??? No one else has training! The printer in reception is very slow going at 4 ppm (as vericool prints in colour!) not to mention that it takes a long time to load the software and even longer to run the fire report. The school do have a backup plan, if vericool doesn't work (can't imagine why!! ) which is to put a slip in all of the registers before giving them out which asks: 1. Do you have any visitors in school today? 2. Are they with you now? 3. As far as you are aware have any pupils gone home today? 4. Do you have any other pupils from somewhere else in the school with you? After purchasing Vericool, I brought up the point, what if "staff member" isn't here to print off vericool report, What happens if the server isn't working/on fire, what happens if the link between rooms is on fire, what happens if printer jams, runs out of paper/toner, what happens if person get caught in fire after waiting for print outs? There reply was: "We may have to rethink a few things"

Try using Steel Run-As Steel Run-As download and review - launch applications with admin rights from SnapFiles I have used this on loads of software before that needs an administrator, if you don't want to put in Administrator credentials, make a new user with admin rights and use them instead.

What part of Abacus evolve are you trying to install? If it is just the client side then you will need to make Easiteach install before the Abacus software does - it has to be the Easiteach included with Abacus - you might be able to do this as a silent install, I don't know. If you are doing a full install on all of the computers, I don't think that you can do it as it installs an SQL server instance.

I've got a couple that I use for various things, I just stick them into the servers overnight to charge. I must admit, that they are very slow and wear down quicker than normal batteries, but for a simple digital camera or a wireless mouse/keyboard I think they are alright as a quick fix if you have no other batteries on hand.

I have no idea, the safe has no markings and the original order form just says 'stanley laptop safe'. I have attached a picture of it, if this helps!

Don't know if this is the right section, We have a stanley laptop safe with no instructions here, but we need to change the combination to it. Does anyone have a copy of the instructions??? I really need to change the code as several staff and pupils have got hold of it and laptops (obviously) and money is kept in this safe. I only really need the bit about changing the combination on the safe. Thanks!!

Have a look at ADA Networks, ADA Networks They did everything here and our system works perfectly. HP procurve kit. Our entire school, switches, controllers and WAPS cost £ 20,000 and that included re-cabling the site, installation, training and all the other stuff. If you do check them out say St Matthews Primary School recommended you!
