I have said for many, many years now, that the best thing you can teach a child is how to learn for themselves. How to do effective internet searching. How to use a library. Because as was said above, more often than not anything can be found using Google in under a few minutes if you know what you're doing. Obviously that doesn't go for everything; some things require hands-on to learn them as they are skills not simply knowledge. But pupils being taught X Y and Z because it will be on a test 4 months later after which it will likely be forgotten or never used again, is pointless and archaic. Teaching needs to catch up with the real world; how often in your own job do you know the solution to a problem because you learned it on a training course? Much more likely that you read a post on here, or some other forum, or Wikipedia, to get the info required.

Yeah you can just do a restore from a backup within iTunes, or update to the latest iPad software version - either one will remove the jailbreak and all the Apps you get from Cydia (jailbroken App store). You will lose anything you paid for VIA CYDIA though, and will have to pay again to re-install it if you ever go down the jailbreak route again. EDIT: Just to clarify, you wont lose the actual Apps from the App Store, only the jailbroken apps from the Cydia store!

Part of the problem is this bogus "every child is equal and should be afforded the same chance to get the best grades". You know what, sorry, no, children are not all equal in terms of their abliities in education because they are INDIVIDUALS with different mindsets, skills, capabilities and interests. I was never going to be as good as RE or History as others because I didn't *want* to be, I didn't care! It's not a reflection on the school, or the teacher, it's a reflection on ME. Child X who studies hard and gets a B in an exam deserves that B. Child Y who half-arses it and eventually scrapes a C after their fourth re-sit doesn't deserve it, and it's unfair to Child X that they do. What are we teaching children, that it is OK to fail because you can just have do-overs until you succeed? How does that prepare for them for ANYthing in the real world? If you screw up as an adult, you pay the consequences. We are growing a generation of children who do not know who to fail. A generation where everyone is told they can be anything they want, as long as they give it their personal best. It's just not realisitic. Children need to be prepared for failure, they need to be taught how to cope with it. Turn off Network Discovery in the Network & Sharing Center (under Advanced Sharing Setting). That might stop the machine from displaying anything when they click on the "Network" option in the toolbar when choosing a location to save to?

I've had this problem for months, and months, and "£$&*%£ months! Whatever I do I can't get rid of it, the closest I've gotten is whenever a user turns the laptop on and logs in they get a temp profile, logs off then on again and gets the proper profile. Really annoying issue, and only happens to a few specific laptop & netbook models we have; the staff ones work fine, it's the pupil ones that keep screwing up like this.

We have all Smart Boards here (32 at last count) and I rarely have any problems with them. Robust, pretty accurate for touch, easy to keep clean, 4 coloured pens + eraser plus buttons for on-screen keyboard and right-click so you can do pretty much everything from the board itself, no need to use the laptop/PC directly for anything. I share @Oaktech sentiment about the projectors & speakers though; don't get the all-in-one solutions from Smart, get your own seperate projector that you can easily replace/service as the built-in ones are rubbish (had to replace 2 both in under a year of them being put in as they overheat something terrible!). Sounds like BS to me, in my 5 years here I've had at least 4 different companies install Smart Boards; lately I've done a few myself, they're not that hard to hang really, just a wall bracket and 2 screws at the bottom! I'm totally hooked on this game (again) now I've got it for my PC! Making a very concious effort to not just do the same things in the same order I did on my xbox playthrough; so far that's working out OK! Made me relaise just how little of the game I actually saw despite putting a lot of time into it!

There could be implications for using cloud storage like dropbox for files containing sensitive information. When you say "it works for them they know what they are doing" setting them up to the server would be no different, surely? They'd still have a shortcut or mapped drive to a folder they can all access, what's the difference? Personally, I'd advise against keeping anything important stand-alone, it's just asking for a headache down the line.

Definately go for seperate. Those Smart Unifi 45 projectors fail all the time due to colour wheel overheating as they had rubbish cooling systems (the repair guy who came to service it told me they are cr@p without my asking!). With seperate, you can replace a projector or board easily, and different makes/model won't matter.

The method posted above by Steve is what I've been doing for ages here, it works and just clears the whole offline files for the machine, not just the one user. Just as an FYI the key you create removes itself on reboot so no need to go back and remove it yourself.

I've already put abot 150 hours into the Xbox360 version, so my OH is already well-perpared. Plus she's engrossed in her own PS Vita games anyway, the benifit of being a couple who are both gamers, we know what to expect from each other! LOL! The Elder Scrolls Online (MMO) is what I'm looking forward to. Being able to visit all of the lands from the previous games, that'll be something!

lol I've ordered Skyrim as my first game, should come in the mail tomorrow (was going to get it via Steam but it was much cheaper from Gamestation, and comes with the free guide too, which I dont need as I've already had it for Xbox but it's a nice thing to have anyway!). I haven't got a *really* good screen yet though, that'll be next month. For now I'm using a 19" tv via HDMI, but really at 1080p level it's quite crappy to look at (text almost unreadable) so sticking with 720p for now. Still looks nice though.

Finished building this now, and wow, I can't believe how much difference it makes having an SSD drive. Everything at work seems really slow now Big thanks to everyone how contributed to this thread, you guys helped me out a lot!
