Well after re-installing the OS and doing around 2 hours of testing yesterday the teacher is using it this morning with no problems, so I don't think it's hardware related as I didn't change anything! Malware or dodgy update, I'd guess.

I see this sometimes as well, having mostly wireless laptop here. I've had problems with laptop wireless cards not picking up a signal until after logon creating all kinds of logon problems. Sophos can cause issues, another thing I've had to deal with here. It mght also help to make netlogon service in Win7 not dependant on user login; sc config netlogon depend= wlansvc/lanmanworkstation Run that as a batch file, or just type it into CMD while logged on as someone with admin rights. It seems to have helped here!

The only diagnosis I had to go on was that the teacher put in her usb stick and then the laptop crashed. Strange!

Strangely I had almost the same issue today, only that I couldn't log in as it would happen straight after the Windows logo fades from the boot screen. Re-installed the OS and it all seems fine now, couldn't do anything to find out what the issue was as trying to run the recovery console that same thing would happen!

An app for a smart phone that uses GPS (or your home wifi) to detect when you are in your house, and not ask you for the unlock swipe/code while you are there. The amount of times I have to unlock my phone while on the sofa is annoying! Yes, I could disable the lock code, but knowing me I'd forget to re-enable it later on! EDIT: A little while ago I was working online briefly with someone from America, on creating a better way to create & format eBooks for self-publishers (if anyone has done it, it's a right pain!). Nothing much has happened with it yet though.

Payday is here! Treated myself to a Corsair 120Gb SSD (on offer for £30 cheaper this week) and the Intel i5-3570k (£6 off, lol). Bought both from Overclockers, they were slightly cheaper elsewhere but their service has been so good I'm happy to give them my business. Still waiting on the RAM & PSU to arrive, then I can get building!

There's your reason. MovieMaker sucks, it just sucks. It crashes all the time even when making small videos let alone whole projects. Sorry, I know that's not an answer to your problem but for the future I really would look at getting a better video editing program.

That happens in Wind Waker too, on Windfall Island in the auction room house! Personally I thought Skyward Sword looked bl00dy awful, even when compared to Twlight Princess and Wind Waker!

I've got my IP cameras working on seperate vLAN for the reason given above. It sounds obvious but make sure they are all on the same IP address range so the recording PC can see them all. Sounds obvious! But when it was put in here to begin with the monkeys/cowboys that did it managed to plug the 20 cameras into 20 ports that were dedicated over 3 of the vLANs seperately, thus we could only see about 8 of the cameras as the recording PC can only 'see' one IP range at once. ARGH! This requirded re-configuration of the ports on the switches to allow the assignment of IP addresses in the same range accross the cameras.

I wake up to the alarm app going off, and set radio, iTunes music or iPlayer/4OD/LoveFilm playing while I shower/shave/dress/have breakfast, maybe read some news online if I have time. Open "Bookman Lite" to read either an eBook or comic on the short walk to work. At work I use it for calendar, reminders, taking notes in meetings (all sync'd to my iPhone as well), reading during lunchbreak. Researching new apps that the school can use on our set of 30 iPads for the kids / staff. Can read & edit networked documents (such as my To Do list) from anywhere on the site without having to carry a bulky laptop around with me. Home uses include facebook/twitter, reading eBooks and comics, using Skype to chat with family/friends, gaming apps & emulators to play games from other consoles (latest one was FF7, yes, I jailbroke it to do it), general Internet browsing / emailling, drawing apps are good fun, as are things like Garageband or DRUMS! to create music (drumming tracks / synth to accompany my real-world guitar playing, for example). Watching / listening to movies/music while cooking dinner, or cleaning the house... the list goes on. It's all about finding things it can improve for you. For some, there won't be much at all. For others, like me, there are a great many things!

I tend to get errors that stop installation when SIMS installs if it the laptop / PC is not set to UK time/date format. Unless they have changed that now and it will install regardless :/

Take that well deserved rest while you can! Ahh, the old "confusing office with windows" problem. Happens all the time here, and to my parents, and my friends, and... well, a suprisingly large amount of people, actually. I was asked for Windows 2003 to be put on a new laptop just last week, I used to play ignorant to what they mean and state the obvious, "Err, windows 2003 is for servers only? It's got Windows 7" to be met with "No, I had Window 2003 on my old laptop. I don't like Windows 7, they've moved around the menus and things" and generally wound them up until they realise they meant Office all along. These days I just assume anyone means Office whenever they ask for Windows [anything].

Advice, from someone who just came out the end of 18+ months of new building work / new IT infrastructure 1) Get plans of all the buildings, proposed works, timescales etc. and go over them again, and again, and again. Get your own copies that you can scribble on, and plan out what you know the IT should look like. Where would be suitable for data cabinets? Where are cables running to and from? What distances are the cable runs, will this mean you need CAT6, fiber, a mixture of the two? Will there be redundancy or will the comms cabs all be linked in chain? What power supplies will be needed and where? 2) Go over these plans with the SLT, the builders/site manager, anyone who will be involved in putting it together and make sure they understand how important it is that this is done right the first time - redoing it will not be an option as it will cost a fortune to put right mistakes that can be avoided by simply planning and communicating with each other properly. 3) Discuss with the SLT what their 'vision' is for IT in the school. Do you need an ICT suite, or are you going mobile with laptops? Do you need wireless access throughout the building, or only in certain areas? How is printing going to work, are they going to be wireless/wired, in set locations around the communcal areas, or in classrooms? 4) Talk with people about their office setup's. Where they are currently, is there IT connectivity? Does it work properly for them or would movement of network ports assist them? Do they need multiple ports, or can they be covered with wireless alone? 5) Lastly, don't be afraid of speaking up. I don't know how long you've worked in the school, but if it's anything more than a few months is highly likely that when it comes to the IT infrastucture you know what is needed better than anyone else, including the so-called "experts" who will come along and try to pursuade you that you need 4 data points in every classroom, a WAP in every room, offices with 3 staff kitted out for 6, and massively expensive extras that you could probably do for half the cost they'll want, if they're even needed.

GPO's will lock down everything you need to block the kids from doing, it's what I do here for the Reception class children and no problems as of yet. I also created a mandatory profile for them to use so they can't make changes to the dekstop, start menu etc. and no accicental changes are saved if they manage to do anything by mistake. You could have a look at this too: 5 alternatives to Windows SteadyState for Windows 7 - Instant Fundas Alternatives to SteadyState for Win7, so any changes made to the PC will be disregarded when it is shutdown, making sure that whatever they do the PC will always start up in the perfect* state you first created it in. Obviously make sure they are saving their work to a network location otherwise that will be lost too! *as perfect as you build it, anyway!

It's kinda hard to say without knowing a) how big the company is / how new they are and b) how specific the domain name is ie how important it would be to them (what domain name is it, do you know?) I guess he could either just pick a figure out of the air, and see what they say, or ask them to make him an offer (ie getting some idea of how much they actually want it).

OK the molestation part is too far I agree, I don't recall that happening to a serious degree when I was at school (there was the usual wolf-whistling, arse-slapping, boob-grabbing, bra-pinging stuff from the 'laddish' boys of the year group but most of the girls they did it to were in good jest about it too). As for the blackmailing thing, it wasn't photos but boys would publically mock someone for a "I like you" note they were passed, or love letter they found slid into their locker. Though saying that I do recall someone in my year group being in trouble for being caught holding a disposable camera under the desk during lessons to snapshot girls in skirts! We have to remember though, that this is teenagers doing this to other teenagers - they are responsible for what they are doing, no-one else. Far as I'm concerned, if a girl is daft enough to write something on her chest and send a photo to someone / let someone photograph it, then she is just as at fault as the person who then shares that around.

Nothing in that report suprises me in the least, and having left high school almost 10 years ago now, I remember much of that being the case back then as well. Mobile phones were still fairly new at the time (or at least, ones small enough to smuggle into school in a backpack unnoticed!) and I recall lots of guys and girls texting each other, sometimes quite awful things (bullying), sometimes sexual things, and so on. It's not a new phenomenon, it's just being brought into the spotlight now. At the risk of sounding irresponsible, I find it laughable that adults, here, now, in 2012, still expect every 'child' under the age of 16 to be innoncent to the ways of the world. It's ridiculous. At 15/16 I had my first girlfriend/kiss, and I was *very* late to the stage comapred to most others in my peer groups, and that was simply because I wasn't one to give in to peer pressures most of the time (also, I had computer games to play, why would I want to waste time listening to a girl talk? ) Society has changed, but a lot of society's values have not - part of the problem. We're all happy to have facebook, twitter, hand out mobile phones to our kids and let them go to under-18 disco nights, yet we expect them to somehow take responsabliity for all those things and at the same time keep them away from the "nasty" parts. It's just not living in the real world. The younger generations that we see as "children" see us as "the old boring people". While we run ourselves into the ground with stress and worry about keeping our precious offspring innocent and safe, they're off having all the fun!

Ours here are printed onto A4 as full pages, one corner hold-punched, treasury tag used to hold the pages together and those whole thing handed out in a plastic wallet. My description probably makes them sound a bit rubbish presentation-wise but the office staff do a good job with them! EDIT: We don't offer ours online but quite often the multi-lingual TA's (and some teachers who are able) will either talk with the parents instead as they are unable to read/speak English, or translate them into written form on request.

I usually use my headphones to listen to music. Sometimes I theme days (certain decades, or genres) sometimes just a few albums I like all the way through. Sometimes it's something considerably more geeky, such as the Final Fantasy 7 OST I've been listening to today All the teachers listen to music while they are on PPA time (most even ask me if they can borrow headphones to do so!) and in 5 years no-one has ever compained (that I know of) that I do it while in the office. I always take the earphones out when someone comes in, answer phones etc. so what's the harm!

EDIT: DAmn, beaten to it! lol Classes don't matter in Skyrim much, it's all about HOW you play. If you want to be an archer, then grab a bow and use it a lot to level up that skill, go hunting in the wildernesses and just kill things. Rather fight with magic? Put a spell in each hand and use nothing else offensive, to build up magic, go and enroll at the mage's college, etc. If you keep swapping weapon types then you'll end up with only low-level perks for lots of different abilties - much better to decide to focus on specifics that work well together (ie sneak/thief and quick weapons, or smithing+heavy armour/heavy weapons/two-handed weapons) My personal approach was mage-warrior; fire spells in the left hand an a war axe in the right hand. Did me for my 150+ hours in Skyrim and I never really fell victim to any enemies who could best me
