    Netboot oddities

I have inherited a mac network, amongst other things. I have removed the multiple versions of deploy studio, and the 8 different netboot instances, and reinstalled and recreated the netboot system. Netboot appears in the startup Disk options of a client machine and selecting it as the startup options boots the computer into DeployStudio runtime as I would expect. However, pressing N or alt at boot doesn't allow booting to network. Have I missed something obvious?
  2. I've just started at a new school, and they have a 2012 RDS solution in place. One user is getting prompted for passwords multiple times on connecting to a remote desktop, which isn't happening for anyone else. It appears that his account isn't creating a profile on the machine. I've checked permissions, and he is in the same groups as other users who do get a profile. I'm still trying to work out the full setup, while not breaking a working system. Can anyone advise me where to look?
  3. We insure our boiler with British Gas (I'm sure other providers are available) A service every year and any repairs needed for about a tenner a month. You can even call them in to fix a problem for a fixed price then take up the insurance.
  4. If you must use a supply account, only give it read access to shared areas - supply staff have no need to edit files on a shared drive.
  5. It's Y12. No recent permission changes. The preferences folder doesn't recreate, the files that appear on the pen drive are in the preferences folder normally, so there is obviously an issue with them creating or accessing that area, but they can happily recreate the rest of their appdata folder, so the permissions must be right??
  6. We have had a strange issue just raise it's head. Students are unable to open an existing illustrator file if it is in their userarea, but can open the same file from a USB stick. However, when they do so, a number of additional files are created in the same folder: Attempting to open a new canvas, or opening a file from a network drive gives: I have tried deleting the preferences folder from the roaming appdata (Appdata\Adobe\Adobe illustrator CS5 Settings); deleting the local profile and stopping Appdata from being redirected, but none of these work. Strangely, it's only affecting users in one year group, though permissions and GPO's don't alter between years. Help!!
  7. User configuration > Preferences > Window Settings > Files. Specify Source file and Destination file
  8. i found this: https://www.jamf.com/jamf-nation/discussions/13694/deploy-boot-camp-via-sccm I don't know if it can be adapted for Casper
  9. How do you deploy the mac side? DeployStudio will happily deploy both OSX and Windows. I half remember someone worked out how to deploy a sccm image via DeployStudio, though it's possible I imagined that!
  10. That was it - thank you
  11. We have off line files disabled.
  12. We have seen this on two machines to date. When you browse to \\servername\users$ it shows an empty drive, you can browse to other shares on the same server successfully. However if you browse to \\ip of server\users$ you do see the subfolders. It can't be DNS as other shares work using \\servername. Any ideas?
  13. I'm trying to install the drivers on a Windows 7 32 bit machine, but I keep getting messages about missing ini and dll files. I've downloaded the zip from their website, but the files are still reported missing. Does anyone have a copy of the drivers for an original series mercury cutter i can pinch please?
  14. I don't do the timetabling, but sets are used. Students are in year groups for lessons, and listed in SIMS with Year groups.
  15. We are an Outwood Academy, so we follow their standard naming convention - the houses are continents, and the forms are countries - 40 in all.
  16. We have vertical form groups - so a single form has students from Y7 to Y11.
  17. look at pfrank - PFrank File Renamer I've yet to find anything I can't rename with it!
  18. It is possible to configure SIMS to use pass through authentication, but think carefully whether you want to - how many times to you have staff walk away from a logged on machine. At least a separate username/password means that a student can't access SIMS. (unless of course the username is on a post-it somewhere!)
  19. Yes, that's right.
  20. Yes, the userfolders have documents within them.
  21. @snagrat - thank you, that worked perfectly.
  22. I must be doing something wrong. When I run that script I get the root folder shared as $, then powershell just reports duplicate share.
  23. So that needs to be before the Param line? I assume the csv has two columns - username and target?
  24. My powershell is sadly lacking, but I can't find any reference in that script to a csv - so does it need a specific name, or to be in a specific location?
  25. I agree with everyone who says to share out the root folder - I've done it that way for years. However, I have to do as instructed.
