I currently have far too many Task Sequences, and, in many cases, the only difference between them is the OU into which the machines go in the "Apply Network Settings" section. I'd like to merge some of these Sequences, and have been looking at using the Task Sequence Variable OSDComputerName, which I set further up the sequence. However, I can't seem to be able to use a wild card in this condition. All workstations are named in such a way that I can set the OU with the first 4 characters of the name. Any idea how I can achieve this?

Set up your application. Right click on it and select distribute content. Select a distribution point and allow the files to be distributed. You need to do this to both applications and packages, so this might be why your packages aren't deploying.

Would you believe it's building in my office!

Service tag and asset tag are both listed in BIOS
-
I have already tried deleting it from SCCM - that didn't help. I've brought one back to my office, so I'll check the asset tag now.

I have just successfully built a classroom of Dell Optiplex 3020's - with two exceptions, which report a media failure. I can log onto the network on these machines, and successfully browse the network, so the cable is fine. They have the same network cards as the machines sitting next to them, but I re-imported the drivers into the boot image, just to be sure. Still no joy. I then noticed that the two affected machines were on BIOS version A07, the successful ones were on A03. So I first upgraded the BIOS to A08 on one - no joy. I then downgraded the BIOS to A03 and it worked - I could PXE boot So I downgraded the other machines BIOS to A03 - and it still doesn't PXE boot. Any idea what I could try next?

Where do I see that - in Preferences and Security, under Privacy, I have Cookies and website data: Allow from websites I visit. I've tried changing it to always allow, but he doesn't help.

When users (including admin) try to log onto google on the macs, using Safari, they put in their e-mail address, click next and nothing happens. It works fine using Chrome with the same user and same machine. We have no issues on the Windows PCs. Nothing has changed recently, but I don't know when it was last tried on the Macs. Any ideas?

How do you install Makerbot Print for a classroom? The software installs to the user appdata and there is no option to install it anywhere else. I'm also having problems getting through the proxy to logon (and don't even talk to me about each student having to create an account!) I thought that Makerbot was recommended for education. It seems very unfriendly to me!

I used a script at my last school, moved to GPP here. I don't have a copy of the script on me any more, but it a simple ifexist copy
-
Either a script at start up, looking for the exe, and copying the shortcut if it's found, or a GPP doing the same. The script can run at startup, so it shouldn't slow down logon.

I redirect my start menu to a folder on the C drive of each machine. That way there are no dead links.

More information - no error messages if I try and save as a docx or doc - the save dialogue just opens up again. Saving as rtf gives an error message that there is not enough space to save the document, saving as odt works.

This is still happening - any ideas anyone?

Can password policies differ for staff & pupils?
clareq replied to klop's topic in How do you do....it?
Have a look here https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/meamcs/2012/05/29/creating-fine-grained-password-policies-through-gui-windows-server-2012-server-8-beta/ It's perfectly possible. It might be worth getting SLT on side before you make the change though. -
Initial testing shows it is fixed. Thank you so much, I would never have thought of that!

Thank you - testing now.

Just checked the real time web filter - nothing being blocked.

I can't find anything obvious with Developer tools, but our issues started at the same time as yours. The strange thing is that two users in the same OU, with the same filtering can log onto the same machine and only one have the issue. However, it is consistently that user.

They can see their home drive, and the documents within it, before they try and save, within the save dialogue.

We've spent all morning on the phone to Microsoft - they seem stumped - we were told they don't really have expertise in IE anymore, and why weren't we using Edge! Windows 7 is probably the answer to that question...
-
Where are you? There were some problems with Virgin in Yorkshire recently, and it started after that - were you affected by that outage?
-
Some of our users are seeing the attached when they open webmail with Internet Explorer. There is no consistency - a user can get the issue on one machine, and not another, but other users on the original machine see no issues. We've cleared profiles and cleared IE cache, but no change. Chrome consistently works. Any ideas?

Recently (since I changed SMB on our servers, but I don't think it's related) students are having intermittent issues saving Word documents on our Macs - when they type in a file name and press save the name of the document returns to 'Document 1' and hasn't saved. They can save the file as 'Document 1' onto desktop, rename it and then drag it into My Docs. The fact it allows saving sometimes, and also allows them to drag the file into My Documents causes me to discount SMB as the issue, but I have no idea what the issue actually is. We are using Office 2016, and El Capitan.
