So bit of update, no one was doing any timetabling. Forgot to restart in the evening. Came back today and hey presto all working fine today. No clue. But going to leave it just like that.

HI, It is a VM connected through a host to a Equallogic SAN. I don't thinks is the disk write speed, as the issue would present itself much sooner. Database file is 17GB in size, server has 24GB allocated, but not using it all , around 75% - so sql still have ram to "play" with. IN runs n SQL 2016 with Windows Server 2016, been running in that configuration for almost a year. Will restart the server later tonight and see what happens. Thanks for your replies

Hi All General question, as it is almost impossible to pin down. Do people have tips how to cure slow sims operations? Today our attendance reported that running fire registers is very slow or basically crashes after few minutes.. Tried myself and yes, very slow, after few minute ( i had stopwatch in my hand) those finally appeared - usually it takes around 30 sec, but not today. Tried other big reports, like attendance marks for whole school, again very long waiting time - it is usually much faster. Checked sims server, it is running 8% CPU, 75% ram - 16GB SQL server (set max as 21), no big processes running in the background, no one is running any massive reports. It is really quiet week for us, more than half of the school is off site. Can't figure it out, LDF file is 1.7GB - is it too big? We have not done any windows updates, no new installations on the server. Nothing in the event viewer. Might restart it in the evening, maybe it will fix the problem. If anyone has any suggestions, I'm all ears. Thanks

Anyone seen this problem: multiple OneNote printers, like 20 - we seen it on few computers already. We do not map this printer for anyone, I think it comes from Office 2010 1. How to remove multiple printers in one go 2. How to prevent OneNote printers from appearing

We had mandatory profiles on Windows 7 and they worked great. But I couldn't make them work under W10, so moved to local profile, with GPO to delete them on restart. I'm not 100% sure if W10 fully support mandatory profiles

Hi All Just an update, we have noticed some DFS replication errors originating from the older domain controller (2008R2). I was already planning to retire it over the summer as sometimes there were issues with DHCP on it. So basically moved DHCP to DC with 2019, moved FSMO roles etc. Still have old DC running, but no roles on it . I think there was some authentication errors when user was logging in. Anyway, the move have sorted this issue, no more DFS replication errors and users have no problems with documents redirection.

Thanks for that. Added that. But isn't that if GPO have problem with being applied? As the redirection policy do apply, it just throw errors, like one below: Failed to redirect the folder because the destination folder "\\server\share\username" is offline, Error details "The network path was not found" Event ID 502 Just seen this error in the classroom, 18 kids are all gone, one has this error - even moved to different computer and still same. But in event viewer I can click on that path and no problem, it opens. It just like it wasn't ready when user was logging in. Logged to same computer with different user, all fine. All users are created in bulk with same settings etc. I'm really confused.

Hi Guys Thanks for your replies. To answer some points. Libraries and Mapped N drive doesn't show - so they can't get to their documents. And it is random, so we can have 29 kids in one classroom being fine and 1 kid that has this problem. I don't think it is permission related, as above would affect all the pupils. We already have policy "always wait for network before logon" - what do you mean by hardened paths? I will check if deleted profiles might be the issue. Thanks again for suggestions

In the last few month we have random occurring problem for our students. When they login their documents folder are empty, the N drive (which is their home drive), libraries are linked to their home drive. So they can save either going to documents/music/pictures etc or directly to N drive - same thing. But sometimes it just not there, they get W drive which is network share to exchange files and resources with teachers. Sometimes login off and log in back again helps, sometimes we have to restart PC, sometimes we have to move student to a different PC. There are some folder redirection warning in the even viewer but no errors as such. We are bit baffled, as it is random, no errors on the server and problem just started few months back. Anyone had something similar? Our setup, Windows 10, file server is windows 2016, students have local profiles that are deleted on start of computers in the morning. Many thanks

Sorted now, but Steve you were right on the ball . I forgot we had that on our core switch which is as well doing our routing. As soon as I have added new server to the list all working.

Hi Gus and Gals So decided slowly to decommiso my 2008 DC and first was to move DHCP from it to new DC 2016. Stopped old DHCP on 2008 , copied backup filder under c:\windows\system32\dhcp and pasted into same location on new server. Started clean DHCP on 2016 press restore - all went fine, authorised, no errors. But it just doesn't serve IP addresses to clients, unless it is on server scope- I have few scopes - all were imported fine. Event viewer is not showing any errors with DHCP. Step tried so far: - disabled windows firewall to if this is maybe it, nope. - reauthorised server - deleted one scope and added new manually - removing role and reinstalling it, importing DHCP through command line New server has different computer name to old one and has different IP address. I think for now will bring old dhcp back online. Normally I would kust recreate whole DHCP config, but with numerous scopes and reservation, it looks like very laborious task

We are a bit in a pickle. For some reason Windows 10 loose/change XML file type association with MS office - it should be on the list as XML Editor which is part of office 2010. ON some PCs it just goes to Dreamweaver, and whatever we do it doesn't change. We have tried usual change , command line command, registry change. Still nothing The main problem is Sims and pupils linked documents, that are XMLs. On working computer they just open directly from sims in MS Word. On PCs that go wrong it wants to open it in Dreamweaver. Uninstalling dreamweaver, doesn't solve it. Repairing MS office doesn't solve it, removing profile from affected PC, doesn't solve it - we have local profiles and problem affects all users on this computer. Has anyone seen this happening? Maybe have a solution or an advice. We are on Windows 10 1806, Office 2010 and latest Sims version.

Anyone is using online forms for that? I will look at Google Forms, but I heard someone will try to do this on MS Sharepoint -
Retention of photos of children
the_quick replied to localzuk's topic in Data Protection & Information Handling
Just got back from the meeting with the head and apparently school nearby is preparing to keep data for each child in separate location - I guess folder - as per GDPR (in their opinion) - so just wonder is that what will come to? Do we really need to identify each kid in a photo - for any enquiries about that child - while they still in school? -
Hi Guys Was asked to deploy it, created repository Layout, all downloaded. After installation when creating new project there is only one option, nothing for asp or other things. Not sure why, if I trigger installation with just --wait --passive and --norestart arguments, would it still process response.json

I would say home user move so quickly because it was free to do so. We will wait till the W10 is well established and have less issues on networks. Might be Summer 2019 for wide roll out.

Migrating Users Home Directories to File Stream
the_quick replied to Dr_Gray's topic in Cloud Services
Only problem I have with file stream, it doesn't not convert files on the fly to Google format, unless there is not need to use Google Docs/Sheets. But really looking at something similar for users -
might consider to buy alternative domain for your school. We first registered our google apps with our long winged domain e-sussex.sch.uk and than we have purchased .org domain. After that swapped on google to org to be primary and did all the changes to dns by ourselves on godaddy (our domain provider). - it shortened our web address and email address significantly - we managed our domain - which is much faster than LEA - same as you said, take ages for any changed on DNS to be applied - it costed under £15 pa Just an option for the future.

Going through our smoothwall and didn't even touch any settings for it.

Consent form for photos
the_quick replied to mikeprice's topic in Data Protection & Information Handling
Form on it own, so far we had a paper version, that each year 7 receives. But we might change that and move to Google Forms, where we can store responses in spreadsheet. We still need to implement this. We have only handful of kids, that don't want to be on website photographs and we know them - but if we have more, it will cause us difficulties and delays in releasing photos to the public. Really shame , as it show how many trips we do and that pupils are really enjoying them. -
What Policies should I manage

Fully agree with above. Be part of such policy, have your input and that's it. -
What Policies should I manage
the_quick replied to owen1978's topic in Data Protection & Information Handling
Not sure how it is in primary IN secondary it is not a job for one person to write them. I get involved in some of them, sometime write bigger part (like staff laptop policy) - but I have never been sole writer and responsible for delivering or enforcing such policy - SLT is for that
