Erm it isn't really your content management system though is it? More Mambo's.... Pete

What can you expect? Well crap pay for one! Lots of presents and things at Christmas but lots of pressure during the year... Pete

Yep I am a member too. I joined because my degree was BCS acredited and I felt that the IT industry lacked any sort of recognition of professionalism and the BCS is trying to improve that. Pete

A pigsty!!! HAHA you wish. I am going to post a nice vid of our room tommorow..... Your eyes will bleed. Pete

Very nice. Wish we had something like that and not just some old desktop pcs recycled into print servers (no joke!). That may change in the near future though. Not as nice as our single G5 Dual Processor X-Server though..... Pete

"if a member has had bad time with a company then they can post there views as long as they stick to facts and dont not make it up it is fine." Russ HERE HERE! Pete

Kev, Sound advice. However, I believe that you should have a right to post whether a company has acted poorly or behaved inappropriately. If it is going to save another school alot of hassle or money by avoiding that particular supplier then I think that is part and parcel of business. Pete

Please do not even get me started on this - I think I might cry It is quite a problem here but things have been a little better with the new equipment (and a very nasty year 11 have now left). We cable tie, cable tie and cable tie and where possible use optical mice (or failing that, glue in the mouse balls). We are currently compiling a fairly large list of the types of vandalism/theft we are dealing with so that a report can be submitted to the head. Pete

Not to put Pete down, I would not bother with Mambo anymore (the whole development team upped and left over a disagreement over the future of the software and set up Joomla! instead). However the same people who brought you MSAS have now developed the JSAS (same thing as MSAS but for Joomla!). http://www.joomlasolutions.com Pete -

You will be pleased to know then that web development and LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP) practically marry each other (they like each other that much!!). And they do not get divorced after only 6 months of marriage. Pete -

oh dear! You have opened Pandora's Box I am afraid. There is alot to learn Happily I would say that with the amount of decent CMS's available now things are easier than they were before. I recommend Joomla! by the way. I use it for the local primary school websites here. Pete -
Our head of IT here (an ex war-weary techie) has 10mb Cable broadband through Telewest and he reckons he downloaded nearly 150GB of data last weekend (what must he have been dowloading?). My own experience of Telewest has not been so good. I had it whilst at uni a few years ago near Leeds and we used to have terrible extended periods of downtime. We were probably just unlucky in our area though... Pete

Bought one and sold it within two months. It was just far too slow after having been used to using G5 duals. Shame though as they look lovely Pete "mac monkey" Shuttleworth

The Mitsubishi GTO/3000GT is a gorgeous car. I looked into buying one more than once but was put off by the 3.0 Twin Turbo running costs (40 min journey to work and back 5 days a week) and the stupidly high insurance costs So I bought my old man car (Rover 75 as seen above) which I love. Pete

You mean WAMP? Pete

The Joomla! Stand Alone Server is due out any time (prob later this week). The font problem has been corrected in this release. Pete

I had the same thing moving from my Mk1 Mondeo to my Rover 75. I was really fond of the old car which had been very reliable. I had alot of fond memories of trips out with the GF in it etc. Not sorry I bought the 75 though. Very refined ride for silly money. Just have to put up with old man Pipe smoking, dressing gown wearing, slipper treading, flat capping comments Pete

Mine is a year 2000 Rover 75 CDT (it has the BMW ECU remap at 148 BHP instead of 116 BHP) with cream leather interior and all the woody old man trimmings..... Very proud of my car (very sad member of the Rover 75/MG ZT owners club). http://www.pshuttleworth.co.uk/albums/userpics/10001/rover75newfrontplate.jpg http://www.pshuttleworth.co.uk/albums/userpics/10001/rover75rearplate.jpg

Is there anything we can do as a group to bring this to the attention of government etc? Or do you all think it is a lost cause? Pete -

Well I hate to say it guys but with no career structure, no sensible pay increases and with no proper formal training offered it is career suicide to stay. I am fairly ambitious (as I am sure most of you on here are), so it seems the only course of action is to move on. That means we will have lost 3 technicians in just over 14 months. Shocking. Pete -
Another vote here for Joomla! (the results of the original Mambo development team refusing to be part of the Mambo foundation due to future open source/licensing issues). I use Joomla! for my personal site and have used Mambo for some primary school websites in our local area. Pete
