Its probably not my remit to post this but I may as well try and help out. Until the end of March at my last job I ensured that Open Office was running on all the machines at Mayfield Primary School in Lytham - thats roughly 60 odd PCs. I use OO on my iMac G5 here at work and on my PC at home. Pete

As webman says there are alot of good quality free CMS packages available. I would personally recommend both Joomla! and Mambo as excellent feature packed suites. Both of these have good third party components and modules which are fairly easy to setup. You should not have a problem creating pages, dynamic content or RSS. However, it all depends on what you need. Pete

At my previous post at Lytham High I was paid by the high school but provided half day support slots to local primary schools 3 days a week and more if needed. I believe that part of the technology college status required supporting local primaries.

Yes I have. It is mainly why I left my last job - they just would not pay a reasonable salary. I changed location to a local FE college and basically for the same kind of duties my wage jumped by nearly £4000 and on the scale it goes up to nearly £8000 more. I was at the top of the scale at my last job. Ok I now have a few years of relevant experience on top of a degree but there should not be that kind of disparity of wage. Pete

If you look at the very brief job spec then it does not look much like the duties of an assistant network manager but more like those of a technician.... What do you guys think? Pete

Unlike on the 360, Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter on the original xbox has not got good reviews - Ghost Recon 2 however is a superb game - especially online. Also check out BLACK as it is easily the most satisfying shooter on the xbox. Enjoy the gaming. I am mainly a PC gamer but I do have a soft spot for my xbox. Pete

I have given AA a try several times but never seem to be able to get into it. It is just not as entertaining as the Ghost Recon/Rainbow Six series of games or anything like as much fun as BF2. Pete

BF2 is a great game! The Special Forces expansion was very dissapointing though and the Euro Force addon was an absolute pain to get installed due to EA Downloader. I am an experienced guy and had problems - if you were not technically minded there would have been no way you would have got it working. Pete

You have done a great job with that site. Very pleasing. Do not get me wrong there are some of us here who have good design sense (I am going to be arrogant enough to place myself in that capacity being an Amatuer Photographer and Web Designer/Developer - and also loving design). However, I am not nearly as technicaly minded as some of you guys so it is swings and roundabouts...... You just do not seem to see it that often in techies thats all. Pete

Well I do not see any good reason why a good functional (and technically very sophisticated) website should be visually poor/amatuerish. After all - lots of effort is often put into the backend! Perhaps we should hire some graphic designers for the CSS and layout hehe - do you think the school budget would stretch that far ? Pete

Its going to sound terrible this... It isn't meant to cause offence....BUT Having had a look at several of the websites showcased on this site it is fairly clear that as a whole us techies are generaly CRAP at design! I wonder if its just that it is rare to be very visually creative and very techy at the same time? Pete

I have used Rational Rose in the past - it is mainly for UML modeling but it can also be used for network diagrams (via a plugin) - very powerful stuff. It takes some time to learn to use though so it probably is not the best tool if you have not used it before. Pete
