Can a computer with an ip range on 192.168.0.x ping any other computer (not the gateway) on 192.168.1.x ?? I'm wondering if each subnet has been attached to a different NIC on the router gateway and has some funny access lists on it. Dave

errrr sure if you give me circa £500,000 for a CWDM 10gbit of the like On the flip side though as soon as your contract comes up we can give you better pricing straight away since the BT Openreach 100Mbit EAD LA's price went down quite dramatically a short while ago. DDoS protection and attacks against web servers are getting more and more complex and difficult to stop. It's not just about flooding the network with traffic but looking at specific application attacks etc. Anti DDoS kit is very expensive (trust me we're looking at some more at the moment and it's well over £150k + support). I guess you get what you pay for with your web hosts........

we've delivered Internet service to half a dozen schools for over a year. Out of Interest the Bradwell Abbey Exchange was one of the first in the country to get FTTP so we can deliver services of 330Mbit there I think we've signed up about a dozen more schools but every man and his dog seems to be trying to flog broadband in Milton Keynes at the moment. Hi badders, we've moved a lot of schools over from CLEO / One Connect and have had schools in Lancashire that have been using our service for 3 years already. We are not as cheap as RM or Exa for our most basic service but with both of those company's you pay if you want to go faster (80Mbit FTTC) but we put a lot more in including Lightspeed Content filtering, Virtualised Fortigate firewall, Office 365 email etc. I'll PM you and see if you'd like a quote Thanks Dave

There's lots of nice new features coming your way in v5.2 which we'll be looking to roll out probably around April / May time. ok, your best bet is to use FortiAnalyzer that does all this via a really easy to use GUI. You can buy a box or use our remote logging service via an ADOM (as we do this for our own clients anyway) Fortianalyzer is their Fortinets advanced reporting service and compliments the Fortigate firewalls. They'd used the client software to point to a special number of servers we have. They can still have full AD integration etc. No need to use it as a proxy and send traffic via it though (unless its IOS). The yes / no to get the site is sent back to the client to allow it to get to the site or not rather than all traffic go via the proxy. I hate proxies and we avoid them wherever possible as they generally just break stuff....

There's a few different ways you can do this via a Fortinet. 1. Create a VPN and send all traffic back to your Fortinet. This works but is a bit complex to setup + will put pressure on the Internet connectivity the Fortinet lives behind as all traffic goes to and from it for remote users. 2. Setup and external proxy on the Fortinet and have the IP of this set to be the global proxy within IOS. This can do captive portal and also integrate with LDAP / FSSO for user based authentication.3 3. Simply download Forticlient for IOS and install that as that does remote web filtering for IOS Free AntiVirus & Anti-Rootkit & Anti-Malware | Free Web Filtering | Free VPN | Free IPSec | Free FortiClient Good luck Dave

No problem and happy to help. Can you get a bandwidth graph from SWGFL? If not can you do SNMP monitoring on the uplink port of your switch to the router? This will tell you what you're actually doing over your network. Thanks Dave

I doubt this is a bandwidth issue. Do you have any bandwidth graphs available from SWGFL? We offer them as standard. There is a big bug / issue with youtube videos we've been scratching our head for sometime about thinking it was our Fortinet firewalls traffic interception but it was actually something youtube / driver related. I'm going to do a post on this soon as this effects lots of schools and video stops after saying 20-30 seconds. Is this the same issue? This only affects youtube though, not the BBC. My view is that FTTC should be absolutely fine for what you are using. it'd be interesting to see if you did a speedtest at the same time as all the staff were using the video. You could have an issue with any RM / SWGFL upstream proxy service too as this could be where the issue lies. We do layer 2 bridging so we don't get this issue and don't use a proxy setting within IE. Do let me know if it is the youtube issue or something else though. Happy to help. Dave

How many pupils and workstations do you have? We recommend FTTC for primary schools but never for secondary schools unless they are very small. Dave

I've seen an email which says 67 schools are signed up with LLN. Out of interest we're on about the 100 mark. They certainly didn't hit their target. I remember being in the initial meetings saying they'd get at least 80% of all schools when I think they are going to be nearer 20%. Dave
