In some insurance policies, and this may or may not apply in your case, it forms part of the requirements of the policy wording which is perhaps why some schools do it. Plus, equipment being stolen and replaced through insurance will at some point impact on the premiums so some schools try to deter as much theft on the basis of that given the funding crisis. However, that said, I've seen some unsightly security marking! Doing it properly and relatively tidy always looks better than a scrawl.

We had a few of these and it made no difference. Start planning to replace I think. -
Projector Cleaning firm recommendations?

Used these a few years ago for maintenance and to create a comprehensive report. http://www.projectorserviceuk.com -
As always I'd recommend TSOHOST. http://www.tsohost.com

EoFTTC - Daisy chained BT sockets
Edu-IT replied to Edu-IT's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Thank you. Not necessarily unhappy. Ordinarily I wouldn't care but it makes it difficult to rack new hardware. I'll send over a photograph although its been installed for a bit so not sure much can be done now. -
I used to use this. Cost wise it was less than some of the bigger names but did just the job. https://www.opsoftware.net/cloud/op-smartbackup/

Would a closed forum for delegates not be quicker and easier? -
Would you still put VGA compatibility into a new build?

Suppose it depends on your hardware. If you have kit that is likely to use it, then yes. If not, don't bother and have a couple of adaptors on hand. -

But only 1 socket appears active here? -
I noticed in our cabinet today that BT have daisy chained multiple sockets together for our EoFTTC connection. It looks as though pairs are taken from the central box with the RJ11 in it (connected to router) to two other boxes positioned either side. What could possibly be the reason for this? There may well be a logical explanation but it seems very cumbersome and the fact that the copper wires are exposed between the boxes leaves them open to breaking which is my main concern. @SchoolsBroadband

Point I was getting at though is that it's not just £1200. If you have to license other software there's that to add on. Then not all schools will have the time or skillset to manage a firewall and react when there's a DDoS or whatever. All these little bits and pieces add to the £1200 so its not like for like when comparing against other offerings. Not all providers will be inflating to rip off prices.

Firewall? Filtering?

Do HR know the school buildings inside out then in terms of Asbestos and such like and whatever else may be in roof spaces? It may be cheaper to do it in house but you need to be confident that your technicians know how to identify potential risks and the process to follow. Also, if they bring the ceiling down / drill through pipes, its on your insurance not the contractors. £80 a socket is quite expensive I'd shop around. Need to think about working at height training etc too.

I signed up but cannot attend. Can you remove my place and reallocate? @Dos_Box

Thanks for the update @Progress. Did you use a seperate port on your SB router so traffic is entirely separate? As a side, for anyone looking for SIP/VOIP, there's some great offers on at Schools Broadband. Hope it's OK to post. https://www.schoolsbroadband.co.uk/sip-10-year-offer Are the DDI numbers local area code?

I can echo a similar story. Spoke to somebody there yesterday, had a call back a very short while later with a few more questions resulting in a BT engineer on site today and problem solved. Even had a courtesy follow up call to see how it all went. Can't fault that. The bonus was that BT were helpful too...!

Just because they have less equipment, doesn't necessarily mean they will require less support? Could have older, more unreliable equipment or very demanding staff and pay very little whereas a bigger school might have lots of newer equipment and much less demanding staff but will end up paying more? Why don't you base it on student numbers, as this is what directly affects their budget and available spend? It's one common factor accross all of the schools not impacted by their technical setup.
