Would you treat pupils the way you treat support staff
hardtailstar replied to blueday's topic in General Chat
I spent a whole week getting classrooms ready for our year 10s coming in, making sure all AV working, remotes with batteries. Emailed the staff involved to say all working etc. Did not get one email back of thanks or any face to face comments. I've worked in EDU IT support for over 10 years and only ever been in one school that were supportive of support staff. Just a shame I was only there part time. I'm over the need for being thanked for things now, its not going to change my work ethic, I will still put the same effort in and if I get thanked its a bonus. Schools are set up for teachers to take all the credit and revolve around them. The same with football teams, nobody ever thanks the team doctor or stadium announcer when the footballers win the league etc. -
I have a weeks holiday coming up. I was originally going to travel round the UK with my camera to photograph wildlife and generally explore. I've now decided to stay home and go for days out within government guidelines. I live in Kent and can travel into Sussex and Surrey quite easily. Any suggestions for things to do and places to photograph wildlife?

Staff and student with the same name
hardtailstar replied to enjay's topic in Data Protection & Information Handling
Nope as we educate the staff on that one! If there is two who start at the same time then its 16BloggsJohn and 16BloggsJoe. If Joe Bloggs starts mid year then his is 16BloggsJoe and John would be 16BloggsJ. All staff that teach a pupil are sent an email when the pupil starts mid year with what their username/email is. -
Staff and student with the same name
hardtailstar replied to enjay's topic in Data Protection & Information Handling
We use their username as name in address book so people cant get confused. So 16BloggsJ would be 16BloggsJ under the name. All students start with the year their cohort year started so different to staff who are surname.initial Seems to work. Just need to educate on Groups!! -
Our English department bought quite a few of these before lock down. They seem to work ok but need the actual HUE software to be installed to be able to view anything. There was a thread that some others had no issues using another piece of video software but all ours need the HUE software installed. I couldn't tell you the model as the rooms are locked and nobody is allowed in.

My last primary school had a laptop 1:1 scheme back in the days of chunky laptops before cloud based apps too. It worked well but was also a pain. We only had docks in classrooms for teachers. All students had to charge laptops ready for next day, classrooms did have spare chargers for student laptops with and extension lead to charge any up at lunch etc. The scheme was stopped for students as it was a nightmare but secondary could be different. The docks the Teachers used were usb and all the AV plugged into the dock so they only had to plug one usb in.
