  1. By long hand do you mean convert to binary and back? 312 = 100111000 split along the last two digits 01001110.00000000 01001110 = 78 00000000 = 0 It would be useful to know a quicker way
  2. What are the devices? Have you checked your restriction settings? For iOS & macOS restrictions, under Security and privacy there is the option 'Force encrypted backup' For Windows restrictions under Device functionality there is 'Encrypt device internal storage'
  3. Good News. The Group policy to disable the Lock Screen will now work again for Windows 10 Pro, the change is in place for the Insider Preview Build 16179 https://betanews.com/2017/04/19/microsoft-releases-windows-10-redstone-3-build-16179/ Microsoft do listen to our feedback!
  4. would this work? A few people in the comments say it fixed stuck pixels, but they might be trolling?
  5. I thought it went like this iTunes, spotify etc. can only be purchased by an individual and used for personal use, i.e individual accounts setup for each teacher (but credited from class/music budget?) The agreement the government has then extends these rights so teachers can use this music in lesson for educational purposes Or can we really just have one school account for iTunes and let all the teachers use it?
  6. When testing recently if I didn't include the following GPO in addition to the Printers policy it was very slow. Allow non-administrators to install drivers for these device setup classes {4658ee7e-f050-11d1-b6bd-00c04fa372a7} {4d36e971-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318} I have this implemented anyway so non admin users can add additional printers if they want to.
  7. Are any of the other hosts using the same NIC as the problematic server? If so do they have a low ping?
  8. My scan folder is a few subdirectories down on one of the shares If I give write permission on the scans folder and list folder contents permission on the share folder to ScanUser, is that the minimum permissions I would need? or is there a simpler way of doing it?
  9. If the unattend.xml is in the same folder as sysprep.exe it will be pick up automatically even if you dont use the switch
  10. I have not tested it but wouldn't using Loopback Proccessing let you target any user logging onto just those machines?
  11. Our network attached photocopiers can scan to SMB shares. I have several 'scan' folders for office staff, teachers and a few individuals on our network shares, these are linked to as buttons on the photocopiers. Should I use unique domain user (ie 'ScanUser') that has only write privilages to those folders to set up the buttons, or is that going to far? How do/would you set it up, or would you just let users create there own buttons using their own credentials?
  12. Have you tried using group policy? This policy applies to users but you could use Loopback Processing to target those machines mabye User Configuration/Admniistrative Templates/Control Panel/Personalization Enable screen saver = Enabled Password protect the screen saver = Enabled Screen saver timeout = Enabled Number of seconds to wait to enable the screen saver Seconds: 300 Edit: Just reread your post, this is what you were suggesting I think - can confirm this works on windows 10
  13. Just a heads up, Microsoft have removed the download links for Windows Essential 2012 (Windows Movie maker, Photo Gallery, etc) The applications will continue to work if you already have them installed, but it would suggest downloading the offline installer whilst they are still available if you need it for future use. There are some links at the bottom of this article that still work, https://www.thurrott.com/windows/88641/windows-essentials-dead-jim and major geeks is still hosting the offline installer Download Windows Live Essentials - MajorGeeks
  14. The Unifi AC-HD has the same range as the AC-Pro and AC-lite at 122m, your paying more for the greater throughput and the Wave 2 features. see https://dl.ubnt.com/datasheets/unifi/UniFi_AC_APs_DS.pdf and https://store.ubnt.com/products/unifi-ac-hd?variant=31217325773 The AC-Lites are about 1/4 the price of the AC-HD.
  15. Also remember, you'll need an additional 4 core licenses for the Xeon E5-2683V3 over the Xeon E5-2680 if you intend to run Windows Server 2016.
  16. Did you run both Remove-AppxPackage and Remove-AppxProvisionedPackage for each app? I also change the default start layout. I think the default start layout will re-populate your new user logins with apps that were on those tiles if you dont change it. There are a few ways to do it but I use this Customizing the Windows 10 Start Menu and add IE Shortcut during OSD - CCMEXEC.COM – System Center blog

  18. But if you don't enable the policy, do you still get these File Explorer Ads, will Edu\Ent customers need to apply the reg fix on top of the Comsumer Experiences GPO?

  20. This reg fix and the ones to disable spotlight work. I do those two and also unprovison all packages and I dont see any ads or app suggestions. But I cant disable Consumer Experiences or the Lock screen using their respective policies or reg edits.

  22. If you didn't already know, Windows 10 is now pushing ads to File Explorer http://www.theverge.com/2017/3/9/14872464/windows-10-onedrive-ads-inside-file-explorer I am running Windows 10 Pro 1607 build 14393.693, and I have now started to see these ads They are very infrequent at the moment, but I decide to test the following reg fix, and it seems to be working. https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/59897-hide-show-file-explorer-sync-provider-notifications-windows-10-a.html Edit: Obviously disabling Consumer Experience doesn't work on Pro anymore, does anyone know if disabling Consumer Experience on Education/Enterprise stops these ads?

  24. These are the reg keys I use, I have had no problems, they work on win7 and win10 for both ie11 and edge, not tested on ie8 or ie10 but they should work. HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\ProxyEnable D-Word= 1 HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\ProxyServer REG-SZ= http=YOUR PROXY:YOUR PORT NUMBER;https=YOUR PROXY:YOUR PORT NUMBER;ftp=YOUR PROXY:YOUR PORT NUMBER HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\ProxyOverride REG-SZ= YOUR LOCAL EXCEPTIONS; Replace the bold text with your settings You can deploy them using group policy, create a update rule under - User Configuration\Preferences\Windows Settings\Registry
  25. I think I had simlar problems, so I resorted to using the following registry edits instead, i have had no issues since and works across edge, ie, win7 and win 10. HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\ProxyEnable D-Word= 1 HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\ProxyServer REG-SZ= http="YOUR PROXY":80;https="YOUR PROXY":80;ftp="YOUR PROXY":80 HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\ProxyOverride REG-SZ= "YOUR LOCAL EXCEPTIONS"
