Which is better then? The ADM/ADMX method or the customisation wizard? Wont the ADM/ADMX apply to all future installs? If that is the better method, Ive lost my guide to installing them, got a 2008R2 server - where abouts do I stick them again? (brand new network this summer, alot has happened since then )

Thanks all, anyone got a link to the ADM/ADMX files, they sound just what I need. What is the risk @sted of removing it or not removing the previous MSI?

Hi folks. N00b question: How do I update Adobe Reader - Do I just roll out the new MSI? Do I need to do anything with the previous one? I just rolled it out, as it came. But is there a guide or can anyone tell me what I need to do to turn off its update notifications?! Ta Matt

I am looking to deploy SIMs access via HAP and remote apps. Just been told I need to get dual factor authetication. I have been told this is the law(?) - when I thought it was just county suggesting it. Regardless - has anyone got any views on this? Obviously they have their HAP password and then SIMs password to enter to get access, but that isnt dual factor... So does anyone have any views on the security aspect, and then any views on any potential solutions? Thanks

I know I am bumping an old thread, but in addition to the above, to disable the On Screen Keyboard which is present do the same as what AnthonyJ says, but find osk.exe in the system32 folder.

Take the user out of the OU with settings applied, set the EoA settings, then put them back into their correct OU - the EoA settings will stay put.

I just gave up and ave the 2 staff copies of the CD.

We have a full 32 point biometric registration system - it writes to sims for students but the unit in reception logs in and out staff. It interfaces with the fire alarm and prints out who is here/not here if the fire alarm goes.

I have gone for only upd drivers, the canon pcl6 for photocopiers, HP generic upd (for your HP colour lasers they need to be a different one then the monos, ill dig out on Monday and let you know - the 1515s look like they work with the generic HP drivers, but start saying not enough memory). The samsung monos are using the Samsung upd. All fine and a lot easier. Key thing is to enable features on each printer (duplex for example)

We use chrome site wide on win 7, no complaints.

Well, I havent yet needed to roll out Java yet The setting for pop ups is: User config > Administrative Templates > Start Menu and Taskbar > Turn off all balloon notifications Disabled Turn off feature advertisement balloon notifications

I think that is killed by the option to stop pop ups? We certainly never seem them on student accounts. Downside is, that stops papercut NG notifications....

Well anti virus is centrally managed - if there is no network connection they will not be able to log in anyway! It is also usually given away because we redirect desktops and start menus, and they disappear. Staff/Admin logins are not restricted.

No, in Windows 7 it specifies hiding it, they can only see/click on the clock (which they cant do anything too...) As we have just done a completely new network/domain things are very locked down... but nobody minds because it is rocket fast.

Personally I don't want kids to see these anyway, all they need is a clock, only thing they may need to fiddle with is the volume, but when they need to I reckon I can just throw a link into the start menu... Hopefully.. should probably test that.... !

I found a Gpo to turn off all notification icons in Windows 7 yesterday, let me know if you want me to dig it out for you?

Webhelpdesk here, supports login by AD account credentials, but not auto signing AFAIK - however as others have said, you can set it to accept tickets via email, which means they dont need to log into anything....

Our's dont. Lots of our rooms dont. I had considered it but got told that was not really a solution for when they want to leave up PPTs which display instructions etc

I understand that - I havent said that is all they do - but I think if they don't want to disturb a class tools like Impero are great - and they need to be run from their PC. I think we will just need to agree to disagree - because at our place it is policy staff have their email open at all times - and one I fully support... Learning objectives/instructions are the first thing that pop into my head...

So an IT teacher, using a PC in an IT lesson is fiddling around? How do they access impero? how do they access other work for students to do? how do they demo one on one with students? We ask them to keep emails open during a lesson as a means of instant site wide communication... How can you expect an IT teacher to not use a PC and software to teach? I don't call that fiddling :/ I know they can not display the PowerPoint etc and then switch off the monitors - but the freeze screen is a really well used standard tool here on projectors - it is just surprising the screens don't have it.

Clearly as I brought it, it's not the be all and end all, the displays interactivity far outweigh this issue - but it cannot be a hard one to implement. You say your staff have found other ways to work - only way I can suggest to them is to take up another student PC or bring their laptop. Both pretty crap.
