The actual cluster ip is appearing on one of the hosts local area connections when I do an ipconfig - but not the other one. When I do an nslookup from any PC it lists all the iscsi and cluster service ips and the LAN ip. On a machine that works, I have noticed the following: Completed Group Policy Drive Maps Extension Processing in 218 milliseconds. compared to Completed Group Policy Drive Maps Extension Processing in 127312 milliseconds." (But they are in the same OU? And Im using the same user?! And: Completed Folder Redirection Extension Processing in 62 milliseconds. compared to 530 on the broken machine, Registry extensions, 250ms compared to 1357ms? Both are actually using the same DC as well. Both go through the same switch back to a central switch (and some go through different switches but get the same results.) I cant work it out... tried rebuilding. Tried changing over links. It is not happening anywhere else!!!

Hi Probably a n00b error ... BUT... When I try to ping my two DC servers by name they try to resolve to an IP address that is not their main network one - IE they try to resolve to 10.0.15.1 which is one of their cluster IPs as they are setup as a failover cluster. How can I make sure when something tries to get to them, they go to the right IP? Tia

Hi all. Weird one this. Our new IT room is causing a few last minute headaches, so much so I went in today to try and tackle the issues head on but to no avail. It is a windows 7 64x only domain, with server 2008r2. On logging in, approx 10 out of 34 machines take an age, waiting for the group policy service. These 10 are no different in terms of machine, build, ou group or software. They go through 3 separate switches each with a different link back to a central network switch. I have tried quite a few things - and sometimes I can get the whole room to login in 13 seconds. Other times, most do bar this 10. These 10 dont change, but they do sometimes work, and this happens nowhere else in the school.If I move the machines elsewhere they work, if I swap their cables in the switch with a working one, they still wont work. Any ideas?? I have checked the error log. Not a lot there that is relevant - but perhaps Im not looking for the right thing. One thing I did notice today - when doing a GPUpdate today, most did it, including some of the 10 not working, but a few others told me they could not apply policies because they could not verify the location (the exact error message alludes me at this time) I was thinking it was down to switches, but 2 are brand new HPs,and it doesnt happen to all the machines on one switch... Im fresh out of ideas, it is as random as it sounds.

Hi all I have Ubuntu 12.04 and the latest fog installed. I have just successfully imaged around 200 machines. Got to the last 8, and Fog is no longer working. On login, I get told it cant connect to the default member in the disk info view. When trying to boot a machine via PXE to be imaged, I can register the host, but I cannot image it - it restarts, goes to a blue screen with text saying please wait. Any help anyone can give, would be brilliant.

Hi all On the new domain I have, I want to set Google Chrome as everyones default browser. Lots of staff already love it, and I want to take advantage of that. I have it installed everywhere using the MSI but now I want to configure it through the ADM/ADMX policies they have. Only thing is - Im not sure how to use these? I have a vanilla 2008r2 setup with 2 DC's and Windows 7 64x clients. I basically want to lock it down a bit (stop them installing extensions for the moment) and set things like homepages - and also set it as the default browser. Any help would be much appreciated.

Not sure, because we got ours custom built with a custom spec of an i5, 4GB RAM and 120GB SSD. Not sure if you noticed, but the prices on their site usually dont include an OS?

But you wouldn't pay twice, if its an OEM Pro license your covered, if its EES you would be covered as well. Cant think why you would leave any other versions on there?

So, it happened. I did it. All change! This summer, my budget of £160k has paid for: Brand new Hyper V Fallover CLuster with a SAN to boot. Brand new domain, every machine rebuilt and all running windows 7 64x with office 2010 90 new Novatech all in one machines with 22" screens and SSDs to refurb every room, and an IT room. A brand new office and IT repair area built with brand new machines etc for us New Server room with air con New storage area Sitewide CCTV Complete room refurb of an it room, with the addition of a 42" LED, and 55" Benq SMART touch screen, new benching, new layout and the machines mentioned above. Exchange 2010 setup (almost!!) Impero, SIMS and more all migrated across. Sitewide Biometrics Think that is it. Apparently more money/fun to come!!

Hi all Getting rid of lots of stuff, lots of unbranded LCD monitors that could be used by another school are sitting here until Monday 23rd August Collection from Redditch, Worcestershire. Matt

I have been very lucky, even got to keep the old cupboard as secure storage. But then I have been given £150k to spend this year, and we are 600 pupil school with 300 machines - so LOTS of new toys

Oh I had that before I started, a cupboard with some benching with servers on and a chair. I have got them to build me new office, repair area and a server room. Only been here 3 months.

Was showing a contractor where some cabling needed to be finished in our new server room earlier - its got the 'old' and the £22k worth of 'new' servers in there. Open the door to be blasted by the heat. Air con has no life, its only 3 months old. Phone up electrician who sorted it out - he comes out - and after much head scratching realised he had cabled it into the emergency stop button in the dt room next door. Which the dt teacher does randomly through the day and every night and weekend. Great start to the day!

Out of interest, we appear to be licensed for 10 consoles, but have more specified in the list - could this be the cause, or is it concurrent?

Hmm, I have done all this, and I believe it is finding the server - but it is still not letting my laptop see the console, it tells me my laptop name and username, both I have put into the console on the server. Any ideas? Russ - he did, thanks, but I don't have any of our details - can someone send me them over?

A quick update! In three weeks or so, I have managed to achieve what I think many wait a lifetime for! - New air conditioned server room - New ICT Support office + repair area (two separate rooms all kitted out with new stuff) - £22k worth of new server, including a hyper v solution based on a SAN for resiliency - 90 new PCs ordered - i5s with 4GB and 60GB SSD and a 22" screen - set up EES - setting up a biometric fingerprint registration system - revamping the entire network from ground up this summer - Creating an ICT Hub with a brand new IT Room, including a Wii, Xbox connect and various other toys and gizmos. So, er, yeah, Going well. Even did my first SIMs update this week.
