  1. Better make sure that they are cancelling the other one. When I was with BT they kept offering me these extra deals but never cancelled the previous ones. So they were all running concurrently. Got to admit that I must have been a bit dim not to notice that the price kept going up instead of down but it wasn't until I swapped to another supplier that it came to light. Thats the trouble with Direct debit, I just assumed that they would do everything.
  2. Hi all My school is considering setting up an Exchange Server. We currently just use the Webmail supplied by our ISP. I don't really have any knowledge of this so can anyone recommend some reading/training material (preferably free). Also is it true that you can't read your emails externally. My IT Manager is fairly insistant that you are not able to read any emails unless you are on site in which case I can't really see the point of having it.
  3. Have you tried Misco. They are supposed to be an Apple preferred supplier. http://www.misco.co.uk

    Leaving!

Best of Luck. I hope you like the look of Picalilly, you'll be seeing a lot of it soon (nappies yuk). Seriously though when you pick that baby up for the first time theres not a feeling to compare.
  5. LOL! Sounds like my house. Don't get a look in when the soaps are on. That's the reason for the TV card. But when I can't be bothered to switch on the PC the little portable is OK.
  6. I've got freeview running from a little hoop arial that came with the portable TV in my bedroom. As for aerials, I fitted a new one in my loft. Screwfix about £18 - £20 Hi gain one. Also put a 4 way splitter up there and connected every other TV in the house to it. Lovely picture. Whole lot including reel of coax, ends and clips only came to about £45. The only reason the one in the bedroom is on the loop aerial is because I have the main one in the back of my PC to use on the TV card.
  7. Thanks. How can I get hold of a copy.
  8. How do you stop a print going to a printer in a paused state if the printer ISN'T paused?
  9. Definitely not going down the Vista route. Perhaps you should explain to the powers that be how unstable it is (a bit more forcefully if you have already tried).
  10. Could anyone explain why an IP address suddenly drops out. The address in question has a printer on it. One minute it was working next nothing. Try to connect with it via IE and nothing. Try pinging it and constantly times out. Cancel this I think I found the error. It seems the Network card in the printer is not working.
  11. Hooray. Finally rejoined the network. Eventually tried everything. Disconnected every mapped drive, stopped Sophos, created new admin account, so one or all of those contributed. Thanks to everyone who contributed too. Much appreciated.
  12. I tried that, I also tried joining with a new name, plus removing it from DHCP and DNS but still keep getting the same message.
  13. I have a PC which has dropped out of the network for some reason. I have tried to rejoin it via the usual route. I have tried dropping it out to a workgroup and then bringing it back in but I keep getting the following message. "Multiple connections to a server or shared resource by the same user, using more than one user name, are not allowed. Disconnect all previous connections to the server or shared resource and try again." I have removed the PC from AD, DHCP and DNS. I have disconnected every mapped drive, I have tried disabling the network card and re-enabling but nothing seems to work. Can anyone help please? Forgot to say that I can access the network from the local account.
  14. All seems fine here.
  15. Brought it up in Bios H/W monitor and its crept up to 51c in about 30 minutes. What's the optimum temp, I thought it was around 40c. It's a P4 3.2Ghz processor if that makes any difference.
  16. Happy Birthday Edugeek. Let's all hope you have plenty more.

    PC Hanging

I have a PC which keeps hanging. IT works fine for about 15 - 20 minutes the just hangs, frozen and nothing can get it back unless you power it off. It's had a totally fresh build (from scratch) plus I have just rebuilt it with a fresh new ghost build because I thought it might be a software problem but it is still freezing up. Has anyone got any other ideas or suggestions as to what might be causing this.
  18. We don't have it blocked. It is a great resource apart from the fact that it is only available for 7 days because of the DRM. You can keep it for up to 30 days but once you have viewed it, even if its for only a couple of seconds, then that is reduced to 7 days. Apparently there are ways to crack the DRM but haven't tried one as yet. Not sure of the legal implications.
  19. It didn't work because I didn't have a checkpoint to go back to. So it's back to good old reformat and start again. Should have just done this in the first place.
  20. lol. You're probably right there. The only reason I haven't gone back to XP is that I have so much tied into it now, plus I like the media facilities better. But that was going to the way I was going if I had to reformat and completely rebuild, back to go old XP.
  21. I did a little bit of digging around on the internet last night and found a few posts on other sites about this problem. It seems I am not alone. The solution that continually repeats itself is to to do a checkpoint restore from the CD. Apparently this is a fairly common problem in Vista. When some updates are done this problem occurs. Anyway it was too late to try last night so I will have a go this evening when I get home and let you know.
  22. Tried brand new usb keyboard and mouse but still not working. Keyboard works until windows starts up (safe mode or normal). It can select bios and options for start up modes then nothing.
  23. They are both PS2. I'll see if I can borrow a usb version of both from work just to try it.
  24. Nothing posh about the keyboard and mouse, just bog standard. It was working first of all then all of a sudden it won't. Trouble with going in to safe mode the keyboard and mouse don't work in there either now.
  25. Hooray. It's up and running of sorts. I took the whole lot apart again and put another sachet of thermal grease on, which covered the the entire base of the heatsink this time. I brought the PC up in safe mode, did some driver updates, some couldn't be found. Brought the PC up in normal mode so that I could use the internet for updated drivers and now the keyboard and mouse don't work. Tried a different keyboard and mouse and thats the same. Tried bring it up in safe mode again (the keyboard works at that point) but as soon as I'm in Windows it doesn't work. Tried doing a windows repair and that thinks everything is OK. Has anyone got any suggestions to this one please. A Big Big thankyou to Kmount, Synack and Contink for there help previously and to everyone else who replied to this post.
