New folders in Home Drives - Ownership
Fleetwood replied to Fleetwood's topic in Windows Server 2008 R2
After a bit more digging it turns out it was only folders/files made during June, anything before or after that sets the correct owner.. which I thought was odd. Fixed up all the permissions now anyway and it's working, thank you anyway @Achandler -
Hi all, An issue has popped up recently where any new folders made by someone in their own home drive, the owner is set to the 'Administrators' group rather than them. I can't seem to find a fix for this. Any ideas? Thanks

The VoIP switch is connected to a big 'server' box (labelled 'Voice Server') undeneath it (that's about as far as my expertise goes with VoIP.. sorry!) Interestingly I did originally try plugging the Head's phone and PC into a splitter, then sending the cables from the splitter in the Comms Cab to the main switch and VoIP switch but they both refused to work that way. Tried swapping them around the jacks on the splitter, didn't do anything either. As soon as I put two identical devices (2 phones or 2PCs) to the same destination, it all works fine. Slightly confused, but never mind
-
Lovely. Yeah, I figured it wouldn't be efficient but it'll do for a temporary solution I guess. Thank you all!
-
Well, tried the PC port on the phone but it wasn't able to make any connection. Would this theory below work?
-
Oh I see, sorry @plexer! Just checked and there's a RJ45 port labelled 'PC' - Never touched VoIP kit before so I wasn't remotely aware of that, thank you! Would you say it's efficient enough to use for a temporary solution?
-
All the phones connect to a VoIP Switch in the comms cabinet. I seem to have the phone bit sorted, just need to now know if I connected 2 PC's to my small switch, then a cable from the switch to the data point would work?
-
@tmcd35 It's a VoIP system. I've got two phones running off the splitter in the Head's office next door, both working fine and can make/receive phone calls. @plexer - the Head's office is right next door with a free single data point close by the wall, so I was going to drill through and use that to connect the switch. @sted - No WiFi on site, for some bizzare reason.

Hi all, I've been asked to come up with a temporary solution to have a phone and PC in a room with no data points (I arrived at the school long after the building updates/data points had been installed) for today. I immediately thought of a splitter, as the Head's office next door to this room has one (well, one in his room and one on the patch panel) but it seems we've got nowhere local that sell them. I've just remembered that I've got a small switch at home (not sure how many ports but enough, though it's only a cheap-o one so it's not something you'd have running the backbone if you see what I mean) - in theory, if I connected the PC and Phone to the switch (port 1 & 2,) then put another cable in port 3 from the switch to the free single data point in the Head's office next door, would that work? Probably being dimwitted, but this is my first time dealing with this scenario. Thanks!

Anybody played this yet? I'm very tempted to buy it; it looks, and sounds (the story,) brilliant!

Choosing a language to begin with
Fleetwood replied to Fleetwood's topic in Game devs's Game devs Topics
+1 to what bondbill said, a basic side-scroller that you can move, 'jump' and have platforms and a finish line would be the best starting point I reckon. Always better to start off small and expand rather than attempting to dive into the deep end first, I guess. That 'Star Pusher' game seems pretty awesome in terms of seeing how physics can be used in Python. I like how it reads the levels from symbols in a text file. -
Current level of experience
Fleetwood replied to bondbill2k2's topic in Game devs's Game devs Topics
I worked with PAWN for six years (main programming language used for the SA-MP mod, I did various scripts and eventually was able to create gamemode scripts from scratch, including using them for MySQL linkage.) which is pretty much identical to the code Bondbill has posted above, so I shouldn't have too much issue getting to grips with the updated syntax (PAWN is, AFAIK, a 'sub-child' of one of the C languages. It used to be called Small.) - I also had a brief dabble with LUA but not for long (programming language used for MTA.. yeah, I like GTA:SA. Bite me.) I've also created UCP's using PHP + MySQL together. I'm no expert by any means but I'd say I'm reasonably clued up on it.. to an extent. -
I know, I'll never have the money for it Sunny just a dream
-
It took a moment for that to sink in.. in fairness we've never had any bad experiences yet *crosses fingers*, and admittedly my interest in wanting to buy a house to 'do-up' came from watching Homes Under The Hammer repeats when I was looking after a bed-bound relative for 3 months. I'd never know where to start but I've always loved the idea of doing something like that
-
Always wanted to get into renovating, pity I know bugger-all about building. Sounds like a good build @Sunnyknight, well done! How the hell did you end up in IT?
-
Or an awkwardly-accented person singing the classic theme song for the bond film Live and Let Die. "He always did have an over-inflated opinion of himself.." @X-13 : my bad, I read your post wrong. Many apologies
-
And for a cameo, when you try to boot the game for the first time. "The application has encountered an error... try turning it off and on again."
-
I've done a lot of work with LUA before. I hear it's similar/based off of one of the C's but not sure how much/which one.
-
I think that's what X-13 was getting at Sunnyqueen brilliant game idea: You're an IT Technician in a school. It's home time, you've picked up your things and ready to leave. The plot of the game? Escape to your car whilst trying to avoid fire-breathing teachers/snot shooting kids with their petty requests. Final Boss could be RM trying to sell you their latest products.* *Disclaimer: It's a sh1t3 idea, I know
-
*pops head up* Put my name down too if that happens!

This has got me thinking of picking up a previous project I was going to try and work on.. will be keeping an eye out for your progress @Rawns! (6 years of working with a coding language called 'PAWN' {formely known as 'Small'} - those who are in the know of SA-MP will know about it. It's nothing remotely amazing, but it's C likeness has given me a bit of a headstart as it's all fairly familiar arguments and such.) All I would say, @Rawns, is don't let the whole "Hm, I'm pretty much a noob when it comes to programming." blur your vision of the project. Remember, all the great game developers started out with those exact thoughts. The beauty of Indie is you've got no time restraints, you can start whenever and finish whenever, shaping the game as you progress/learn new skills.

They're dummy passwords, I won't be using them thanks though (I'm testing the script on my Home PC first so I just shoved any random pw's in to try it out for settings.)
-
Just tried it again and it worked... no idea what happened there thank you anyway!
