So. G Suite works great from the web, but most of our staff have iPads. They're connected to the staff wi-fi and they want to be able to use their ipads to use GMail/Drive etc, but our accounts our managed. For some reason, on our network, you can download the restrictions policy ('Google Apps Device Policy Payload Profile', from ios-mdm.googleusercontent.com) but you can not actually activate it. Through digging around (and hotspotting with my phone..) it seems to be that the problem is that the iPad can't 'sync' whilst on our network. Once you have the initial sync performed (on a network that ain't ours), the Google apps will work. My presumption is this initial sync is what confirms with Google that the restrictions have been applied to the device, which in turn authorises the device to allow logins to Google services. If you then drop back onto our school WiFi, GMail, Drive, etc all continue to work fine and access files and emails without a problem. However, viewing the device list for my test user tells me that the device does not sync. If I initiate an account wipe, G Suite just sits at 'Account Wipe Pending' as the wipe is initiated at the next sync. The device not syncing means that for as long as the device hasn't left the building we cannot wipe the account from it. This is - obviously - not ideal. Problem is I can't find any information about how exactly the sync is performed. Smoothwall isn't showing any activity from this iPad's IP (apart from expected email/safari traffic when browsing or using apps), which led me to believe that the sync ignores the network proxy, but our firewall shows no activity from the IP either. Kinda stuck on this one.

The reason you chose fibre optic over copper is speed/latency. Regular ol' copper HDMI should be good enough for transmitting audio/video, and if it isn't, you want to not be using HDMI, no? If copper HDMI isn't working, I'd say you want to start looking at DisplayPort Edit: Unless your problem is range? Are you in dire need of a longer cable run?

Only tech thing I'm vaguely interested in right now would be a proper drawing tablet (i.e. a fancy touch-screen monitor with a stylus) but even with BF/CM considered, they're bloomin' expensive. 'bout £400 minimum. I'll stick to pencil and paper for now 'eh?

Unfortunately, I got nada. I eventually just stopped trying and left that out. Standard W10 theme isn't bad, I was only doing it to change the default colours to our school colours which I eventually did with reg keys IIRC

I borrowed my housemates OP3 for two weeks to see how I got on with it, the slider annoyed me to no end for that very reason. I'd much rather it didn't exist because now you have hardware and software fighting each other.

I'm in the midst of sorting out a mortgage, plus Christmas. I'll not be buying any phone outright. S'pose there's always the credit card. Probably not though. I'll sort out a new contract come the near year.

Ooh, y'know, I really don't know. The Razer Phone has a gigantic battery, the best speakers on the market and that gorgeous 120hz screen, but the camera is pretty meh and the vibration motor is reeaaally weak. The OnePlus 5T is a looking to be a good little all-rounder, but it's a down-facing speaker, has the same annoying 'slider' the 3 had, and has the fingerprint reader on the back that I'm really not keen on, and also I'd have to go back to O2, which I don't wanna do either. Tough one. Both have their reasonably-sized cons.

Casual hack-'n'-slash (with some RTS) set in an extremely-exaggerated, over-the-top rock culture fantasy setting. It would be cringey if the comedy weren't so self-aware and it plays being a parody well. Would recommend. Definitely worth it for nowt.

Personally we use Serif MoviePlus X6 here, but IIRC they're discontinuing/have discontinued most of the Serif Suite. Which is why I'm waiting for consumer reviews. I have this mantra that reviews of marketing sample are useful for a 'first look', but can't be trusted as a fair review. Companies aren't going to send marketing samples to people who slate them or point out too many flaws with their products, so I feel people reviewing marketing samples have 'more to lose' if they annoy their sponsors, so they might gloss over a bad feature making it out like it's no big deal, or might big-up something that's really not noticeable during regular use. Basically, whilst I don't actively distrust marketing sample reviews, I do question their integrity somewhat. I find that tech reviewers that buy the device after launch usually offer more in-depth and balanced reviews. The screen is supposed to be really power-hungry, but 62 hours is no big deal since I charge my phone every night religiously. The screen brightness is the one I'm a bit fussed about. So we'll see

if you opt out of the user experience program [...] then your usage analytics will not be tied to your device information. But still collected and sent, presumably, just slightly more anonymised. Not exactly what I was after. Shame, really. I have nothing against flashing custom roms but it's a pain that you have to from the get-go for privacy now. At least the screen isn't upside-down though. I think I'm still gonna go with the Razer Phone, but as always I'm waiting for 'consumer' reviews (as in going to the shop and buying one, not reviewing the marketing samples)

Does it still have the invasive as balls telemetry, though? And did they put the screen the right way round this time?

I'm not well-versed in Exchange, but I don't suspect you can have both receiving email if your account names are the same. I'm gently pushing people away from 365 towards Google (mostly because Classroom is better than OneNote and we've had issues with GCSE kids doing all their work in OneNote and then the teacher leaves and their work gets deleted and it's not good at all) but I predict we'll have both running side-by-side for at least a year. Maybe two.

We chose to do ours with different domains to completely negate that issue. Staff accounts from our internally-hosted email system (that can send and receive emails to/from other domains) use .uk, whereas with cloud hosts that can only send/receive from the same domain, 365 users .net and Google uses .org I'd imagine trying to have both cloud services trying to operate under the same DNS address would be a really bad idea

The options are in Device Management, there should be an option on your Admin Console It might be your Android settings are set to 'basic' and not 'advanced'. Combing through these settings it looks like you need to set up an Apple Push Certificate to do manage iOS devices anything beyond 'basic' Edit: But again I won't have a way of testing this until Christmas

Not a clue. I assumed that the message/requirement was inherent to all enterprise-grade/managed accounts. Have you tried connecting one of your managed accounts to an android device and not received the message, or have you not tried signing in yet? No, it's one of Google's core services AFAIK so it just automatically downloads it when needed. It does require the user to manually set it as a device administrator, though if I remember rightly if you refuse to then it won't deliver emails/sync calendar/allow Drive access/etc Edit: I only know about Android atm, I have no iOS device to test this on though as the last member of staff to leave handed back his iPad and didn't take his account off it so I can't wipe it or do anything. I'll do another big ol' infodump after Christmas when some more of our staff leave and I get an iPad I can screw around with.

Just completed Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice Wow.. Just.. Wow. Genuinely amazing game. Good puzzles, fluid combat, and some Norse mythology thrown in for good measure. An extremely delicate subject matter* that is explored both gracefully and without ridicule. £24.99 on Steam. 100% worth it. Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice on Steam * The protagonist has psychosis, but I'll not go into further detail because spoilers.

Have to admit, I chuckled at the chromosomes one.. Sounds like a very Doctor-ish thing to say.
