Well they're not dead just yet, they've laid off a bunch of staff and are trying to operate with as little expenditure as possible, but we'll see. I hadn't immediately planned to buy anything from them but I was keeping my eye on them.

The Venue's are still running 8.1 here, though they're an incredibly under-utilised resource anyway (lack of keyboard'll do that) so they don't take up too much of my time. It would be nice if I could get W10 working on them just to bring them into line with everything else, but 8.1 isn't too bad (on a tablet, that is..)

It's possible. We also make use of the Delete cached copies of roaming profiles setting (because contrary to its description, also deletes cached copies of mandatory profiles too) to clear out C:\Users on pupil machines, else they end up filling their disks.

Interesting. I can confirm we're using it here, Delete user profiles older than a specified number of days on system restart is set at 14 days. Anybody getting this issue that doesn't have that policy set?

I passed the Server Admin fundamentals, only had about 5 minutes left but the guy said I could go for another if I was quick. I went for the Networking Fundamentals even though I knew it was a bit of a long shot (Subnet masking confuses the hell out of me..) and failed by something like 3 marks the guy said Should've gone with the Windows OS fundamentals, but c'est la vie. There's always next year, hopefully!

Back in the IRC days, one would generally signify they were going to be absent for a reasonable period of time with the term 'afk'. This spread to online IM's like MSN, ICQ, AIM, Yahoo, etc. The term mostly gets used during video games now (wtf, blue is afk, kick pls), having fallen out of use with the chatty crowd in favour of 'brb', or simply 'idle'. Next year can we have 'Blocker', 'Supreme Overlord' and 'HACKERMAN' ribbons?

We have several links to online resources, G Suite, ECDL, etc, and because people associate the white-page icon with 'that can't be done on this PC' we have a folder on the network with .ico files. I'm fairly certain it's not a permissions issue.. The icon cache folder has Read permissions for Everyone (as well as Authenticated Users and the Pupil group), and the icons work fine with the same user/same location on Windows 10. The only solution I can find to this online is deleting IconCache.db and letting Windows recreate it, but IconCache.db isn't part of the mandatory profile so it's getting created at each login. Is this a weird 'quirk' of Windows 8.1 or have I missed/forgotten something?

Nope, that hasn't done it. It's put it in as an Alias, but their primary address is still onmicrosoft Edit: To clarify, the 'Set as primary' button isn't active, because the account is synched with AD. You can't click it. When an account is synched with AD you're not able to change the properties. Well, you can, with some crafty powershell, but they get changed back when the sync next runs. On the plus side, Google seems to have completely ignored the proxyaddresses, it hasn't given the test user any aliases, presumably because it's a different domain.

I actually have no idea how often 365 synchs. I think it's ≈30 minutes.

Well I've set the mail attribute back to .uk, and let that sync through. The user is now back to school.onmicrosoft.com I've added SMTP:[email protected] to the proxyAddresses attribute. Waiting for that to sync upstream now. Fingers crossed!

Well we don't use ProxyAddresses for anything, so I can't see it being an issue. Aye, I have some accounts I can test it with, see what happens.
