  1. And remember your smartboard is probably 4:3 so getting a widescreen projector will mean that the image does not fill the entire board, you can buy widescreen smartboards but the costs soon mount up.
  2. Thanks Paul, worked perfectly!
  3. I have a url in a course that links to an external web resource. We have been supplied with a new one from said company but Moodle says the url is invalid. The old one was like this: co.uk/Default.aspx?inst= the new one is like this: co.uk?csid= now from messing around it appears to be the question mark straight after the url which is causing the issue, but I have no idea where to start in fixing it. The moodle server is on an Ubuntu LTS server.
  4. To block or unblock for staff and students? More and more requests to unblock content of BlogSpot, in the past we have had it blocked, what is your opinions?
  5. Has anyone got any suggestions for an outdoor wifi point for a home with a large garden? 2.4 and 5 Ghz preferable. Needs to be fairly straight forward to install with no controller needed.
  6. We looked at Filr but it was way way more expensive then Foldr.
  7. In bridged mode you give an IP to the external connection and the internal connection is bridged so no IP address needed.
  8. I have 3x Brand new in box D-LINK DEM-311GT SFP (DEM-311GT SFP 1000Base-SX Multi-mode Fibre Transceiver | D-Link UK) and about 10 others used which I would be willing to send. we haven't been using D-link for about 3 years now and they will be binned in the summer. PM me if your interested.
  9. We have been using it after a recommendation on edugeek. So far so good with it. You can get a free trial which is worth it's weight in convincing people.
  10. Have you used the DAP audio mic before or is this the first time? Sometimes different vendors use different frequencies on different channels. In some cases frequencies are so different they can't be used together.
  11. We sign 5 year contracts, yet usually after 2 years they come back to us with a new deal, the last as such gave us more bandwidth and a cheaper price........
  12. Just to say Our original fault was some sort of virus..... Sophos did not pick anything up, but managed to get Vipre installed and it cleaned up the issues and we have not had an issue since.
  13. Do you use vlans or have changed anything on the switches?
  14. Have you restarted the controller software?
  15. Because you have redirected appdata...... files needed for office are stored on your network. I believe its best practice not to redirect appdata (we too use roaming profiles). You can exclude certain folders in appdata going into your roaming profile which can help keep the roaming profile size down. (Such as adobe photoshop folders)
  16. I have a 24" Viewsonic Touch screen monitor and a 17" secondary. Other IT guys have dual 19" Lenovo displays
  17. We have it running on Ubuntu LTS server. Has been ok for us
  18. We have it unblocked on BYOD as art use it. It is much better then it was a few years ago for dodgy pictures.
  19. We have around 76 of them, none have failed so far 2 years in.
  20. Its more like windows 8 with a start menu..........
  21. We have spare edge switch but our core is like £12K, we gave the school the option of a spare, they decided against it. So backup configs are at the ready!
  22. I have it on my devices, I use my devices for school work not personal, there is nothing happening on my device which I wouldn't do in school anyway. We ensure that SSL is not intercepted for banking websites. Staff where giving full briefing on the system where we explained what SSL interception does. As I have said BYOD is not mandatory it is a choice, it is there to support school based activities.
  23. This is one reason we haven't gone down the full MDM route, we do get them to install a certificate for SSL interception and staff/students have to agree to this for BYOD. We don't make BYOD mandatory, so if you don't like it, then don't use it. We still have school owned facilities to use in classes if mandatory computer use is needed for a lesson. So far no complaints from staff/students.
  24. Please don't get me wrong, its not like our system is wide open, we use an application blocking system that prevents a lot of apps from working, but its only as good as long as the app is on the system. Apps are always going to be ahead of the blocking vendors. We stop Skype/facetime to name a few, but we also spent a lot of time with the solicitors, SMT and the governors going over policies and procedures.
  25. You can't 100% Which is where policy comes into the equation. In the same way as you can ban students bringing in porn mags, but they might still bring them in there bags and might look at them without any one noticing. But when they get caught there is a punishment. If you want 100% control then you need an MDM that will lock down to only specific apps when connected to your wifi, but even then you could disconnect from wifi and use 3\4G.
