Here are some of the policies I have set

Did you set it as a per user policy, should be user policy and use the %username% parameter in the folder string to grab the current user folder, assuming the path has the username. The switching off or on of offline folders should be done in the machine policy, blocking it on workstations but turning it on, on staff laptops. I think the auto folder offlineing is something like 'automatically make redirected folders available offline' and should be in the user and machine policy (but may be in only one of those). Again, this relies on the laptops being in a separate ou from workstations. If you configure admin offline files in the per machine settings it tries to do it for all users that have logged in every time.

Only if you define it in the policy when you set it up. This can cause massive issues if you enable it on a huge desktop as there is no progress bar, at most a redirecting folders spinny wheel for a few hours which the user kills the power on and problems ensue. Better to script it or get the users to do it manually. Personally I put it in a subfolder of the documents as the users keep filling it with them anyway and them if you are syncing the docs anyway it all works out quite well.

It's basically the same tech just better integrated so it works for all sorts of stuff, once it's going it makes things simpler for end users which makes it better for usage when there is limited skill and available training like may exist in a smaller school.

Cyanogen Mod is good, have recommended it to a few people who have been stuck with aging bloated unsupported android phones and it makes them way better in most things, including battery life on a stack of them. And it beats being stuck with a vulnerable bunch of software on an abandoned rom.

Oh, and look into directaccess, that plus decent settings gets rid of all those issues of not accessing shared folders or internal school resources from anywhere.

Yes, administratively assigned offline files to \\server\share\%username%\desktop and switch off automatically make available offline files then disable the config of offline files all through gpo. I'd use a hybrid approach where they still had a profile but everything possible was redirected like desktop, docs, fav's and just leave the problematic stuff to roam, unfortunately this means appdata too which means that filth software like chrome will make profiles huge. You can also limit profile size in gpo but that will just give them a message when they have filled it. You can keep local profiles with a bunch of stuff redirected but that can cause other issues like filling up machines with profiles and users loosing most of their settings when they swap machines which can confuse them more than a little.

Uefi on servers have different criteria and can even be slower, especially dell gear from the complaints I have heard on here but more through. Desktop stuff that is windows certified has to get through efi post in something like less than 2 seconds if ssd or less than 6-8 sec if hard drive, can't remember the exact figures but it leaves bios in the dust for user pc's where boot speed is a priority.

Turn on uefi and the rpm in the bios first then you should be able to boot via efi and now or later push bitlocker. I think it can be a pain switching from bios to efi later as efi can use gpuid partition tables and the bios can't. I used to do the same with old schools Hyper-v till 7 integrated all the drivers. What I used to do was use basic inputs just to get rdp running then even without any extensions I could 'remote' in and do everything required without installing any extra drivers or suffering performance slowdowns while doing it.

What is great once set up, now less of a developer challenge with the SP 2013 backing is the interface, our staff and students (although students adapt fine) just know MS Office, short of starting a small armed conflict keeping that ui familiarity is important as I have witnessed and suffered when other less familiar (and to be fair less well organised) ui's have been tried. Tieing into the tools they can use is also important as a save to sharepoint dialogue in their usual process can trick them into compliance where as a whole new suite will make them cry to union hq about unfair harassment. If you mean bitlocker, yes on windows enterprise as long as the tpm has been set correctly in the bios/efi you can even push it out transparently through group policy.

The new version has apparently fixed that in everything but word or so I was told today and they have a 90 day release cycle for more improvements, apparently they are working on word.

We can only hope, the more of this kind of media push tech that is available the better it should get, as long as Sony does not decide to only support this in their new tvs at the cost of dlna, well unless they also provide a stack of apps to make it viable for the device ecosystem.

If using 8 then bitlocker will work fine with secureboot etc will be nice and secure comparatively. Faster boot, easier updates, more diagnostic tools built in.
