What type of machine? Is it one that may have a built in key or a misimplemented bios that breaks kms activation. Can you try activating on with a mak key to see if that works. If so maybe a bios update.

How was the base image created and did the base image have intel GPU drivers in it to start with? Intel drivers are terrible and sometimes don't strip out fully in the sysprep process and can cause all sorts of trouble. I do generic images in a VM with no additional drivers added to get around this then the intel drivers seem a lot happier when they are not tripping over themselves.

Unless it supports all phone types you are excluding people, why reinvent the wheel then the car, use twitter and facebook for notification and a proper mobile site for the rest. This is a solution looking for a problem rather than the other way round.

Calling desktops outdated and not value for money is a very limited and largely incorrect view. The future is not 'just wireless' the future is using the right tool for the right job not trying to shoehorn everything into the newest market segment. Wireless is great but there are still many areas where wired is much more suitable.

Nice idea but even the hack way only works on certain usb keys to be able to be read in windows and hence windows pe. Wasted a good hour and a flash drive on that line of investigation, come to think of it it would be much simpler with two usb keys, one fat32 boot and one data which gets around the limits of some usb keys on windows. Still a hassle though.

Have you tried manually setting the kms server with slmgr.vbs -skms:server and then an -ato Also are you running in an elevated command prompt making sure you have uac on. Have they been imaged and/or sysprepped in some way?

I would be giving a the project managers a 'yell', if that is torque ip or tts as any wireless gear should have come with five years of support. With one school we were lucky enough to be able to tell them to get bent much to their protest but their plans were frankly idiotic - putting in a new small business type at switch in place of our enterprise grade core that is way superior and at their own admission met their spec. - that and they wanted to pull out almost half our cabling and that was with the eight port variant. The school that went SNUP has issues with some of the ports and their switches being junk in comparison to what we had and are putting back in. The switching they allocated left us short in several areas for just existing PCs. Unfortunately there is still one school that's network is that bad and the school is that tied up in the ministrys rubbish that they really have no choice but to have snup pull half their network. They will get wireless but two ports left per room. They suggest line splitters or adding wireless cards to most of the desktops, both stupid ideas prone to failure. We are a low desile school where byod is not practical and even if it was there is still a place for desktop pcs. SNUP has been poorly thought out and implemented the whole way through which is how you know the Moe came up with it. I'm just waiting for the first unconscious round of casualties from N4L from schools suckered in and to uninformed to know how bad the service is in comparison. One school I know of was bragging about their 30mbit download off the supposed 100mbit uncontested link. Comparatively we get 80mbits off our own 'contested' fibre. It is ridiculous.

Dirty ASUS garbage, I had to image five of these things and you are right, despite the 64bit CPU the EFI will not boot it. What is even more charming is that it will not boot Windows PE either - at least for me - so I had to manually apply a system image with a Windows 8 32bit boot key from a hard drive powered by an externally powered USB hub as they don't provide enough power. Oh and if you thought a big enough USB key would do it, better luck next time... to boot it has to be FAT32 with the 4GB limit so a custom image won't fit without splitting. Then you run a system startup repair to get it to boot and it is fine but what a hassle. I was not able to find a USB NIC that would allow it to UEFI PXE boot either. To ASUS... Die in a fire. To Dell please stop being tools and release the new Atom version of the Venue Pro in NZ rather than the Celeron or Pentium ones. If any site sponsors can get a hold of these that can be shipped direct from Dell to NZ and work with NZ power please PM me @CPLTD @VeryPC - we have tried four times to get a Dell direct account manager and every time have been ignored or passed around a telephone black hole.

If you have SCCM you can setup zerotouch where you get the manufacturer to send you a list of MAC addresses and set the BIOS/EFI to PXE boot then just add them into SCCM and have the image applied when they first boot on your network. At that point it is just a case of plugging them in and powering them on, SCCM should be able to handle the rest.

Smirk, chrome and web based were supposed to be better as they were more efficient but they still need a mainline cpu ro be decent. Windows 8 even seems to handle web pages better on a lower end cpu.

This is another of the reasons we went Windows 8 and Chrome as that way there were two browsers with flash embedded. You can push flash via the MSI and I did successfully for years but the MSIs are junk and when they break it can take a manual visit to each machine to fix the resulting mess.

I would not jump on the populist web only bandwagon, I would go deeper and look at making it as modular as possible, a web service core that is accessed by whatever kind of app(lication) can access the api. Be that a java one, a nice and comparatively efficient and seamless/easy platform specific one, a cut down phone app or a dirty web site version for the sadists.

MPS does use RDP but there are many ways to connect. If you have multiple monitors and keyboards connected each mouse/kb combo needs to be on its own USB hub so the system can identify sets. If in local mode the system automatically logs on as an MPSshell user then opens up multiple rdp sessions back to itself to create sessions and split them up to different users. If you are still using softexpand hardware I think this shows up as USB connected GPUs and USB hubs.

Roaming profiles for staff with a stack of redirection to keep them small and fast, students get mandatory with a bunch of redirection to keep customisable and delprof2 saves the day on each machine startup.

Just the sever component, I tried wiping t Profile manger DB an that failed spectacularly. Now you can run the activation wizard s much as you want and it completes successfully but does not actually enable device management.

Anyone found a nice easy way to do this? I had it going, MDM and all then I changed something that hashed the whole lot and now I can't get profile manager to enable at all despite the wizard completing 'successfully' Any hints?

Is it Windows 7 Enterprise, look into full disk encryption with Bitlocker, EFS files can still be cracked by cracking the local PW DB and recovering it that way, bitlocker mitigates this.
