Please make sure there is a Nic avalible that allows PXE boot and the EFI allows booting MDT or other imaging tools, even better if the tablet supports a 64bitOS with its 64bit chip. From cold experience the Asus transformerbook t100 does none of these things making it an epic pain without a rear facing camera.

I doubt it would manage better than gb ethernet, I think the max theoretical is something like 1.3gbit bit that is shared between wap and client and all other clients as well as being half duplex. It may on a tiny few occasions match 1gbit ethernet if the laptop is sitting on a wap in a faraday cage doing a udp download but cable is just better if you want speed and reliability. Ac is still a huge improvement as it gives you about a gigabit to share between everyone on that wap but not as good as cable for bandwidth and reliability. There is a basis as a modern os that can do anything allows you to goof off in seconds where as a dos wordstar box is far less easy. You would probably be able to write easier with less discipline required on such a system When I write I barely look at the screen, maybe once a sentence or so with the rest of the time stareing through the keyboard and visualising what I am writing about. +1 highly configurable, supports multiple IPs, IP6 and even filtering along with advanced routing like BGP if you want to handle multiple connections efficiently and has a custom no nonsence OS. TMG is junk and end of line - equal odds of it being an unstable gibbering mess even under its native 2k8 and no IP6 support. Have not used Smoothwall which may or may not match the firewall featureset of the Fortigate, smoothwalls filtering is probably more comprehensive but may not match it as a firewall.

We have several schools on it and it is really decent, integrates with almost everything and just keeps ticking. The one time we had a DB corruption was when a RAID controller fell apart underneath it, we sent them the DB and they managed to fix it overnight. I would not say flawless by any stretch but it is the best bit of software that I don't really have to support as it just works for our primary school libraries.
