Just use roaming plus redirected folders to keep the size under control.

Apple weren't really ever under the push of Hollywood anyway as even getting a blueray to play was a mission. Not that I am condoning the other manufacturers, you are right, they were stupid and Apple did get back to using higher def screens first.

Like one extra cheap monitors worth but yes, at the time those were high, the reason Apple is ahead by a margin is because everyone went backwards for a while there. Besides, 'high' PPI is a rather arbitrary line in the sand, suffice it to say that much higher PPI screens than were generally available in laptops from a couple of years ago existed and were used a long time ago and had it kept progressing instead of being hijacked most things would have as good or better screens today.

vPro can be very powerful but without the right SSL certs it has to be set up manually. Depending on the generation it has all sorts of features, the latest ones let you control the system at the hardware level via VNC even before any OS is loaded, mount ISOs over the network to reinstall etc and moniter, check logs, offer remote support etc. pull the OS off the network while you fix a virus remotely then let it back on and more. It is all network internal though so shouldn't be a security worry and the tools do cost, the VLC version that does it is about $99 though so if you were to set it up on your machines it can be extremely powerful if you want to do stuff remotely.

You've got the answer, Windows tablets. If they are to replace everything else you'll need something powerful like the Surface Pro 2-3, if they are not nuts and are keeping some desktops then you can use the Atom powered ones which are far cheaper and intended for that king of thing, @VeryPC does them as do Dell with the Venue Pro 11 and ASUS with the t100 (limited though). Lenovo has the yoga which is a folding laptop, cheaper and more powerful that may fit the bill as it folds to a tablet. As to network projecting, miracast can work as can simply buying Epson networkable projectors which come with deployable software that lets you project to them over a network - works with video and sound too - even on the atom ones but these are a little choppy. You will be fighting a huge uphill battle trying to shoehorn Apple stuff in there and get it actually working, android may be able to work but with a huge amount of extra work.

There were loads about 6 years before, not quite as high definition but plenty like my 7 year old hp that was running a 1920 by 1200 15" screen. it was only when HD tvs became more popular that 1080p became the 'best' you could get and they all started shipping with lego block 720p screens for smaller units. It was all a stupid cost cutting move thanks to being able to use the same controllers and lithography for all the screens along with the geriatrics winging about small writing back when Windows was rubbish at UI scaling. Long story short Apple was not the first to do high PPI they were the first to start implementing it again after the great quality plato caused by Sony and the other TV manufacturers along with the 'people will only ever consume' brigade from Hollywood that saw the height of laptop design as being able to play toy story 97 at 'full HD' of blueray.

I'd be angry of they pull the desktop on my atom tablets, it makes them twice as useful, if you can still run all desktop apps then maybe but if they remove that feature mine will be covered in cow manure and delivered to MS NZs reception desk.

In MDT I just set a filter to not include any extra drivers in the distribution share then regenerated the boot.wim, renamed it to something else and added it back into WDS as a different image that could be used to boot those. Not sure about how to do it with MDT but probably along the lines of using DSIM to mount the boot wim offline and pull the intel USB3 drivers by inf name which is somewhat more involved. There is probably an easier way but I don't generally deal with SCCM.

Is this the primary computer or a companion device, if it is the primary don't muck about with the little ones, get a surface pro 2 or 3, if it is a companion device then you can look at the stuff from VeryPC and the Dell Venue Pro 11 which both run full Windows 8 - which will run exe - rather than RT. Just buy Office separately or use your volume licence agreement if you have one to put Office on, only RT devices have it bundled and that is a cut down version.

Both have memory dedupe so if you have multiple servers all running the same base OS they can share 8GB nicely with only the differences taking up more memory. Hyper-V does use a bit more RAM for a host if using the full GUI version but it does give you a gui on the box itself where as you always need remote management tools on ESXi, you can use remote management tools on Hyper-V too to cut down the ram usage of the host by pulling out the GUI - this version is also free (no need for server 2012). ESXI is much nicer for Linux OSs and maybe has less updates along with not really needing a virus checker. Hyper-V really should still have some form of AV which is probably its biggest downfall as a host. You do get more advanced features for free with Hyper-V though like free live migration.

Yes it should, robocopy has built in mitigations for the 255 character thing, I am pretty sure it is automatic, I don't remember having to add a switch for it.

Sounds networky or drivery, perhaps older nic drivers, rebooting wds, looking for any changed switch config, splitting wds multicast into speed bands and finally a wireshark to look for multicast flow problems.

Filthy Intel drivers! have had the same kind of issue, Windows 8.1 comes with new integrated drivers which supplant the vendor ones. I don't know why intel can't make drivers that match hardware IDs properly, they really needed to fire the stoned guy in their NIC driver dev team rather than move him to chipset drivers. This is a mess but may help: Windows 8 and Intel USB 3.0 Host Controllers | Plugable I have not tried it though as my issue with Intel's USB3 is slightly different and involves Multipoint Server 2012.

Yes, use 2010 if you can as there is direct migration, 2013 would require the middle step anyway.
